Not much to report, spent all of yesterday puttering around WLF or sleeping. Last night I made a delicious dinner in which of noodles with vegetables topped with an Asian peanut sauce. In the dish I incorporated red bell pepper, hot banana pepper, and a some Chinese cabbage, all of which were grown in WLF. In fact, the only vegetable included which was not from WLF was baby bok choy, which I’ve previously grown, but don’t have any at the moment.

This morning will find me at the Waschsalon doing many weeks’ worth of dirty clothing.

I’m hoping that both my bike and body will be ready for my first bike ride since riding into Amsterdam almost two weeks ago. I also need to remember where Past Paulie put the cycling repair stuff that he took to Iowa. I know that I have things, I just can’t remember where I put them so I don’t want to rebuy them.

As I start to plan for my next journey, a car trip to New York next month to deliver my mother to her final resting place, I realize that I may get a bonus of seeing leaf color changes along the eastern coast. I’ve also discovered (?) in planning this trip, along with another hopefully return to western North Carolina after it, that hotels really love to rip you off for staying on a Saturday night. The same hotel in which I stayed last weekend is $50 more next month on Saturday night, and another local hotel near the Asheville airport is twice the price on Saturday night that it is for any other night during the week. Isn’t this the same “dynamic pricing” for which people spew hatred toward Uber and Ticketmaster? I’m trying to figure out how to limit my expenses on these future journeys. Unfortunately camping isn’t an option because while she may have done so during my brother’s youth, my mother never camped during my lifetime. Hell, because we never camped, my first camping trip occurred when I was 34 and did the Blue Ridge Adventure Race in 2000.

  1. Early indications suggest that my bicycle work yesterday was successful. However both bikes had slow leaks, so time will tell.

Wordle in 5, with 2 guesses with the first 3 letters correct!!

I managed almost 25 after work last evening and felt pretty good. I’m please as my last 2 outings have been pretty crappy.

I have found a shop who can add the needed air bags to the rear suspension to the truck and will reach out to them today. We still haven’t heard from the owner as to what the actual weight of the trailer is. These air bags will help no matter what we buy, so there’s that.

    Games meeting tonight. yippee.

    Wordle in 6. That wasn’t a word. lol. Connections: X, X, P, G, B, Y. I see why you were bamboozled by yellow.

Not much going on. Just me and Rocco hanging out. Might take him to the river for a walk this morning.

2 mistakes to get yellow – that did have 5 legit answers (imo)

nothing exciting around here – trying to figure out what we should have Dad wear to the funeral – not sure if anything he owns fits anymore. tom might just take him out & buy something

  5. Waschsalon success. Popped home quickly to get reusable shopping bags and headed to Lidl. To my surprise Lidl’s shelves were emptier than I’d ever seen.

Try growing up on a farm, camping is not a thing when you grow up on a farm.

We are into season 2 of Peaky Blinders. All the friends who have recommended it say they watched it with closed captioning on. Sometimes the accent and dialogue are a little tricky, but we manage pretty well.

    • Steve says:

We leave CC on all the time and it really helps for accents, as well as ensemble situations with everyone talking at once. Not to mention my bad hearing.

      • Jenka says:

I pretty much only use it when I’m on an airplane and the ambient noise is louder than the volume on my iPad. At any rate, Kevin can’t read CC from the couch so it would be useless for him, luckily he is really great with accents and dialogue. With this show, sometimes one of us will turn to the other and ask, “what did he say?”

      • Jenka says:

For some reason my comment got lost in the ether, so I’m trying it again!

    • Farm life was not the case for my mother, nor myself…

I can’t have captions on. If there are words on the screen 100% of my attention is consumed reading them. I might as well have a book in front of me at that point.

      • Steve says:

Typically, the captioning is behind the audio, so if you miss something, you can catch it in the CC, however lots of pre-recorded stuff has the CC exactly synced with the audio, so if you don’t hear it, it’s already rolled off. Very annoying.

Thanks Jenka, now the Green Acres theme song is stuck in my head! 🙂

I tried twice to reply to Steve but they appear to be lost in the ether! I don’t THINK I was offensive…

Bike ride sounds good, I need to do that as well tonight. Maybe check out the HTN on my gravel bike.

Got a call from the school, Travis was in weightlifting class doing bench press and dropped the bar on to his face. He is a little bloody and swollen, I’m most concerned about his teeth as they may have been knocked a little loose. Off to the dentist this afternoon 🙁

  9. I keep getting calls on my Google Voice number from a number with a British country code. Just learned how to report spam and block a number in Google Voice!

  10. Still can’t find stuff. This may be the best thing to happen to me because it’s going to cause me to go through everything, and make value decisions about whether or not I will keep each item.
