So why did I go to Asheville (really Hendersonville) North Carolina? Last March I was going to attend a conference put on by the Organic Growers School, but it was too much of a commitment after being in Florida for nearly a month. This past weekend the organization put on a small festival called “Sow & Grow” and I went up for it. I had a really good time, spending money like I’m employed, eating, drinking, and even buying a t-shirt.

While in the Asheville area I also popped into a cheese shop and bought a little cheese to eat with the baguette that I bought earlier in the day at a local market. It’s like I’m living in Europe! 🙂

I don’t know what has happened to me, but recently I have lost my sweet tooth. At the festival there was a pot luck buffet line and I didn’t even consider any of the dessert offerings, opting for a second helping of savory instead. Also, my engorged waistline has diminished my drive to go out for beer. I spent a lot of time in my hotel room because I didn’t want to go out to drink. I think I have also been spoiled by being able to walk everywhere in Europe, while in North Carolina I had to drive everywhere.

The M6 gave me a good scare when apparently either the key fob wasn’t close enough to the ignition button, or I didn’t put it completely into park, and absolutely nothing happened one time when I tried to start the car. I really thought “Shit, it wasn’t the battery, it was the alternator!” and then it started.

Today I am starting preparations for Wee Little Farm 2025. Since I will be gone a good portion of October I need to get a lot done during the next two weeks. I hope to put a lot more effort into WLF2025 in order to provide more, and varied, vegetables for my consumption.

Wordle: four, my starter was CLAIM

  1. I forgot to mention that the M6’s Bluetooth connection to my phone magically started working again yesterday, with not intervening by me. Ah technology…

I’m glad you made the trek and actually had some fun. I do miss being able to walk or ride everywhere. How was the cheese?

I opted out of Wheelhopper since it was going to be a pub-crawl. I didn’t need to drink all afternoon or spend money. I did meet up with a few hashers at the On-After since it was just down the street at the Rusty Barrel. My activities consisted of running at Kennesaw Mtn and taking the dog on a hike. I was hoping we would get some rain. Things are so dry right now.

Wordle in 4 starting with thing. Connections: X, P, G, Y, B. I had to use a hint to get me started on Strands.

Not exactly a wasted trip to see the LQ trailer in Tuscaloosa, but almost. We were ready to pull the trigger, as it had all the bells and whistles I wanted and most Debbie wanted. Then we hitched it to our truck and it sat the truck down low! We can’t afford a “new” truck, but decided on the way home to ask the seller to get the actual weight of the trailer and to calculated the hitch weight and maybe we can add air bags to the truck to handle the additional weight.

Sunday was our Games kick off party. A smaller gathering than some- maybe because it was Sunday afternoon instead of Saturday evening? Don’t know, but we did have some new faces we picked up at the Yellow Daisy Festival. Always good to have fresh faces. This old face is ready to let someone else take over!!

I rode indoors both Friday and Sunday. Was ready to turn Zwift on for the Winter, but it wasn’t seeing my heart rate monitor, so I skipped it this time.

  4. Two hours of WLF puttering done, it’s gotten well out of hand; I’ve worked up a sweat, taking a break.

Also on today’s agenda is to take off the rear wheel of the road bike and figure out why it’s leaking. With any luck I will be riding tomorrow.

  5. For the first time in years I am feeling annoyingly fat today. I need to get more (some?) vigorous exercise, and reduce my calorie intake.

  6. Jenka says:

Sounds like you had a great time! Good for you.

I had a very nice, quiet weekend. Friday we had a birthday dinner. Saturday we got mani-pedis and then went to Pure. Sunday we did errands in the morning and stopped in at the General Muir for lunch. Then we watched football all afternoon and I made a big pot of soup.

This week is going to be very busy at work, what else is new!

hardest thing yet- pick out the readings & songs for the funeral.
I’m such a bad Catholic. We told Dan (who does go to church, all the time) he could pick them.
    Meeting is at 1030 (central)

Dad can’t remember that mom has died – that makes for fun of repeating it over & over & over.

    • I feel fortunate that my mother spared me from all of the pomp and circumstance.

      • Barb says:

its not that tough – just need to find people to do the readings (I do NOT want to) – Catholic mass stuff.

they have church people to do the luncheon after – probably just sandwich types of stuff & whatever salads & desserts the church people bring.

I really need to stop allowing outside voices influence my decisions. I should not have cancelled the campout, the weather was fine and I missed out on laying a great trail in Clemson.
There were some positives over the weekend like getting the camper in the shop like it needed, getting projects done around the house, and pub crawl on Sunday.
Sunday was fun, 14 or so hashers riding around Alpharetta. Lots of laughs, nobody got lost, and everybody seemed to have a good time.
First ride on my bike since maintenance and it seems I waited too long to replace the chain, popping and skipping under power tells me the cassette is now gone too. That sucks and cassettes are now over $150. Lesson learned 🙁

    • Barb says:

well Bummer the weather ended up being nice after cancelling the campout.
Did you get a site for next month?
The trails we found near Dauset are fun- could we be great weekend of riding.

      • Bob says:

Yes I have a site, looking forward to it!
Hopefully the camper will be fixed by then or I will be going old school and sleeping in a tent 🙂

    • At least you made the best of it.

The weather up in Hendersonville was good, but as I said my weight is bothering me so driving to drink just couldn’t be justified.

      • Bob says:

That is a win win then, you didn’t have beers and you didn’t spend money to have beers, and you didn’t drive after having beers.
        Positive spin!
Now I’m sure you will get on your bike to address the other part.

    • Jenka says:

You did the right thing, the weather is so fickle. If you hadn’t cancelled it it would’ve poured rain the whole time.

  9. Barb says:

oh yeah – and nothing too exciting going on in Iowa – watching too much sports – but at least the NFL was interesting – lots of games down to the wire & not knowing who will win.

My sister & family flies in Wednesday – I’m guessing Dan & Family will get here Thursday.
I guess Allan & I need to figure out food here for everyone at certain points of this week.

  10. Steve says:

We listened to the Alabama/Wisconsin game driving home and watched Georgia try to lose to Kentucky Saturday evening. If GA had problems with KY, the Alabama game in 2 weeks might really be a blowout.

  11. Put a note into my mailbox today, and alas my held mail has (finally) been delivered! Woot!

  12. Barb says:

    wordle in 3 – what a great 3rd guess.
Connections – got Purple & Yellow – then – could not figure out the other 2 categories.
    Oh well

  13. Done mucking with my bikes. I’m not sure I’ve solved my problems but I got tired and frustrated being hot and sweaty working in my basement.
