A non-travel aside: I watched Apple’s iPhone Event last night. I was completely bored by the video, since it was another pre-recorded slick presentation done by an array of Apple employees of all shapes, sizes, and color, each trained to use the same exact hand gestures during his/her/their segment. And once again Apple’s products are getting larger in size. Why, Apple? Why? From what I saw about the Apple Watch it now looks like the Garmin Watch I have mocked for trying to look like an Apple Watch!
And now back to travel…
I completely overpacked. Were the temperatures the ones this part of the world will experience later this week I’d be singing a slightly different tune because my hoodie and jeans, assuming they still fit, would have been useful additions and justified their weight and bulk. Because I am who I am, I packed too many shirts, in part because I ended up wearing a couple a few more days than is socially acceptable. The only item I could have used more were underwear since I was unable to wash/dry as I expected: this caused me to buy three more pair in Amsterdam, €20 well spent.
Overall I have had a good time on this trip. Do I wish some things had gone differently? Of course. Would I do it again? Definitely not 100% the same. As you may have gathered from yesterday’s post I have had my fill of Amsterdam.
My flight today is scheduled for 7:00EDT. After deplaning, clearing customs, baggage claim, and Lyfting home, I hope to be at the ITP Estate around 18:30EDT. I also hope to stave off sleep for at least two hours and will happily crash in my own bed around sundown.
Wordle: six, my starter was REACH
Connections: FAIL, Green > X > Purple > X > X > X
My body is incredible. Today it is recycling some ailments with which I’ve not had to deal in a long time. Good thing all I have to do is get to the airport and board a plane, from there it’s 9.5 hours of sitting in my ass.
Currently having a coffee and pastry at hotel Starbucks in an effort to rid myself of Euro coins.
I’ve loaded hours’ worth of podcasts and videos to my iPhone and iPad for the flight.
Just so think I am all serious and shit, it’s time for me to admit an embarrassment.
Q: What do you call the linens in which you sneeze, the things that preceded Kleenex?
A: Handkerchief
Until today I thought that they were called “Kankerchiefs”
really? really?
I just had to show my boarding pass in order to buy a Coca-Cola in the airport. How weird is that?
I’m already through security. I wonder if I got charged tax based on my citizenship/destination?
Resisted the urge to buy more cheese because I now know how bad these shops are, and perhaps more importantly I’m trying to carry less weight.
hahaha…makes me not want to buy cheese in the store ever again.
Michael googled ATL – found a shop called Capella Cheese for us. Looks like its down near Sweetwater.
Might have to go check it out someday.
Check it out and have a beer! Win Win
In! Well, after I lose some weight.
A little more babble about Apple.
Two years ago when Apple introduced Apple Watch Ultra, at a starting price of $799 I thought that they were nuts. Aimed at the “ultra athlete” with its bigger Watch face and longer battery life I underestimated the world’s desire to flaunt wealth, and I have seen them on the wrists of many more people than I imagined, especially those whose figure doesn’t scream “ATHLETE”!
Apple confused me again yesterday when the only announced update to the Apple Watch Ultra family was a black version.
People with bad eyes might buy that just for the larger watch face, even if they aren’t athletes.
Still not back on USA time. Up way too early. Should try to be more productive, but I’m not. Safe travels to Paulie and Barb today.
Not much to report.
Wordle in 4 starting with QUIRK. Three mistakes in Connections. g, b, y, p. Had to use a hint in Strands. Not a good word day.
GUTS run tonight. I might get out there and cut the grass. I also need to get my car’s emissions checked.
I keep waking up way too early – and not being able to go back to good sleep.
Wordle in 5. One letter wrong in 4.
A scenic departure out of Miami. Apparently the storms were nearby. I wasn’t paying much attention and when I finally looked out, we were over the Keys! I have a picture of some beautiful green water and US 1!!! All in all, a good trip but glad to be in my own bed last night.
The scale was not my friend this morning and there will be some exercise very soon. While I have a Games meeting tonight, I may phone it in.
Safe travels all.

Yes, I am seriously irritated that Apple just keeps making mobile devices bigger. Unless they come out with another iPhone mini I will not be getting a new phone any time soon.
I forgot to mention that while my dad was here he organized our TV situation. He is the original Apple fanboy and has spent his career writing software, and he’s just a tech geek in general. He saw all the wires all over the place from our two TVs and organized the shit out of them. He also hooked up our Apple TV and showed us how to switch between that and cable. It’s so neat and tidy now!
can your Dad come help me? 😉
that’s awesome.
I like my big phone.
Does it fit in your pocket?
depends – sometimes – depends on the shorts or pants I’m wearing.
Bills are paid, trip to the post office to mail GUTS packages and my car passed Emissions for another year. YAY! Next up…..the yard.
On the ground, taxiing to gate
Waiting for expensive Lyft, $36 before tip. Money has flown out of my account at an increasingly easy rate these past three weeks.
