You will be shocked to read that I arrived at the airport obscenely early. After checking a bag and clearing security I sat at a bar and did some people watching. It blows my mind to think about the number of people on the move every, single, day. I tried hard to avoid it, but I overpacked and will be punched by this for the near future.

Sometimes I don’t think I belong in society; I don’t fit in, and wonder if I should buy land and get away from everything and everyone.

I didn’t get much sleep on the flight so I am currently running on fumes.

Wordle: five, my starter was JOINT (in honor of being in Amsterdam)
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Green > Blue > Purple

  1. After missing on my third Wordle guess I had to play strategy to ensure success.

  2. I’ve already determined that I have packed too much shit.

Sadly my hip is hurting today a little. Hope it won’t prove to be the hindrance it was to me in Iowa.

  3. Since it’s too early for the rest of you I just cracked myself up. Ten years ago I was in Amsterdam and declared that I’d never return again as a solo traveler. Oh how things have not changed…

Curious why Amsterdam in particular is worse to visit alone? I’ve never been there alone but I don’t think I would mind.

      • It’s been ten years, so 49 year old me may have had visions of grandeur traveling the world with a loved one. Black soul 59 year old Paulie plays it off like water off a duck’s back.

  4. Just ate some little smoked sausages that I bought at Hartsfield for the plane in case hunger struck. This was my lunch as I sit in my hotel room for the night, recharging for another attack on Amsterdam. Found a place I went to ten years ago, and will make a return tonight.

    Wordle in 4.

If you really want to lighten your load, ship stuff home. I’m sure you can drag it around with you.

I took the RF tire off the CX5 and was able to find the leak. Unfortunately, I’m unable to remove the metal shard as I can’t get a decent grip on it and will have to take it in to be repaired. And some previous gorilla mechanic cross threaded one of the studs for the lug nuts and I will have to re-tap it or replace it. Ugh.

Take a little nap, then get into the sunshine. Enjoy Amsterdam.

    • Back out at 2:30pm local. Found the microbrewery I visited ten years ago. The have changed their beer selection since, but it’s still good (and a wee little bit expensive).

Worlde in 4 starting with RIVAL. Connections: Y, G, X, P, B. Strands was easy.

I keep thinking I am packing too much as well. I also keep thinking that when I backpack, I wear the same thing for a week…hahaha…wonder if I could get by with that. Need to pack for the biking, hashing, rain, and just touristing. I do plan to rinse some things out. Packing will be done tomorrow night, although, we are hosting a Sip and Stroll at the shopping complex. Plan to visit my friend in Shepherd’s after work tonight.

  7. Barb says:

I know I will over pack, but oh well.
I need to start weeding down my piles of clothes on the guest bed – put together things that will mix & match – & get rid of the things that don’t.
Trying to figure out shoes – figure 2 pair of “running” shoes, but what else? will I wear sandals? Do I bring my Merrell clogs? Then – what to wear for dinner on the barge?

    • Sally says:

It’s the shoe dilemma. Maybe one pair of shoes and wear my Keens. Looking at photos…no need for anything special for dinner on the barge. I will bring a dress or two since I like wearing dresses in the summer. Not sure why I pack things that I think I might wear when I don’t wear them here! Something about being on vacation.

Just registered for the Beautiful Backroads Century in Cartersville. Been a long time since I’ve ridden from the Bud Plant.

    • I hope no one is expecting me to dress up for barge dinners. I’m looking at this more like BRAG than an ocean cruise.

I have two pairs of sneakers, mostly in case one pair gets soaked. I packed only t-shirts/technical shirts, shorts, and one pair of jeans.

  8. One bartender just explained to another bartender how to take a tap handle off using “Lefty loosey. Righty tighty”. I didn’t realize that was universal.

  9. Jenka says:

Yay, Amsterdam! I am so jealous! Have the best time!

All this talk about the barge reminds me that I have to book the river cruise for my 50th next summer.

  10. And now I am eating a huge piece of apple pie with a beer. Vacations are great, especially when you walk everywhere. lol

  11. Barb says:

Allan made & forgot the smoothie he made this morning – so I offered to meet him to deliver it.
We decided on meeting at Goldberg’s by OK Cafe. Since we were there – let’s eat breakfast. Some customer bought our breakfast – Allan is uniform has its perks. Only other time that has happened was at Pero’s – next to Sal’s shoe store. I think we need to eat in Buckhead more often.

  12. Found a store which sells ibuprofen, so even though I have some in the hotel I bought a box. I need to fill the walking pain…

  13. Steve says:

    SPOILER ALERT

Ben O’Conner just drilled the peloton for 6:30 and now has the leaders jersey by 4:30!!! It’s only stage 5! He can sit in for the rest of the race. Wow.
