Could there be more madness in my near future? If not for the fear that something would happen to my mother’s urn while left unattended for a week, I would have signed up for the North Carolina version of BRAG yesterday. The ride is from October 6-13, which would kinda work for taking my mother to New York, admittedly I would be wedging in the bike trip.
This morning I am helping Betsy, being a driver for her doctor’s appointment. I’m bringing the iPad and Kindle for my waiting room time killing.
Today’s Wordle was another in my stable of starter words. Sadly I didn’t choose it, though I’ll gladly take a deuce.
Wordle: two, my starter was TRUCE
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Green > Purple > Blue
Wordle in 4. Once again I used a letter in my second guess that I knew was wrong. Starting to worry about how my brain is functioning lately. Connections: P, Y, B, G.
Easy Strands.
NC Brag sounds fun. Maybe next year instead of IOWA. Pick a new state every year.
I have a going away dinner to go to Saturday night and a friend is cooking me dinner Sunday night. My friend is finally getting moved to Shepherd’s today so he can get the help he needs to get him back on the bike!
Other than that, I have nothing else to report. I hope everyone has a great week-end!!
Yeah, it may be too much for me to wedge in NC, but it may be fun to do it next year. I assume they alter the route every year as BRAG does.
do they have a NC lite option?
Haven’t checked, but I’d still have to leave my mother in the car.
Wordle in 3 with an unusual starting word that was little help.
Yesterday went fairly well, until it didn’t. We had a plan to move some AP’s over to the new network, but the network for employees was dog slow. It’s more secure that the ones for guests (duh) so something ain’t configured right. Maybe more of that after hours today. And there is one piece of gear that is unique to this site, a time server, that no one knows jack about. That will be my puzzle to solve today. And for the armchair network geeks, the device drives display clocks around the office, not a real biggie, but will be very obvious when it doesn’t move over successfully.
And if all goes well today, a trip to Tops Diner tonight!! I was reminded of the name when I saw a takeaway sack in the hallway!!

Woo hoo, Tops Diner! That’s fun!
Sitting at Piedmont Hospital as Betsy has gone in for prep. Should be here an hour or so, catching up on my trip research while I wait.
The cell phone game is bugging me. Given that my phone is four years old I don’t know if I can use it to switch to T-Mobile, and I don’t want a new iPhone until this year’s model is released. My plan with AT&T is going up in price, and I am angry with their business practices, so I really want to switch.
do you really think the 16 will be that different from the 15?
so far I haven’t felt like my new 15 is that different from my 12.
just do it – & then get the 17 in another year.
I look forward to getting a 16 so that I can ditch those goddamned Lightning cords and be all USB-C all the time, except for my absolutely ancient iPad that I will probably recycle soon.
the 15 has the usb-c cord – now I have both around – as I too have an ancient iPad
Wordle in 6, NYT Mini in 35 seconds
Yeah, I have a 14 still, and I limit myself to upgrading every other year.
The Wordle/NYT Mini post is some sort of autofill relic from the past as I haven’t done either on months, and did not intentionally post that. That’s what I get for using my password manager to autofill my email address. Debbie plays Wordle though, so maybe I’ll get back into it.
OMG, ME TOOOOOO. For myself, I don’t care all that much, I just use the cord that goes with whatever device. But Kevin physically can’t see the difference and he gets extremely frustrated and then I have to get involved. Like, every time he needs to charge something.
All your modern devices can be charged by laying them in a charging pad. The only cord necessary than would be the one that connects the pad to power.
Theoretically, yes, but in practice, no. Kevin and Finn both use their devices while they are charging, there’s no way he could put it down and go away while it charges. At night he needs it for the alarm.
And for me, my phone case also serves as my wallet, which in turn interferes with wireless charging.
Yes, it will.
Eh, it’s Friday, so here goes an ITP alumni post:
Today I learned that the Tommy James and the Shondells song “Crystal Blue Persuasion” is based upon the Book of Revelation. A fan wrote a poem called Crystal Persuasion and exhorted Tommy to hang onto it after a show in Atlanta. He liked the title of the poem, added another syllable, and then paired the title with words from a passage in the Bible as he had recently converted to Christianity.
This deep dive was prompted by Debbie and I having tickets to see Tommy James and the Shondells tomorrow night at the Georgia Mountain Fair. Part of our immediate bond when we met was discovering that we both geek out on that song hard.
Last week we saw Cake in Asheville, then on Sunday night we’re seeing Heatwave, Average White Band, and War in Mableton. And next Friday we have tickets to see The Breakfast Club at the Fox.
Speaking of the band War, I ran across the song Nappy Head a couple of months ago. My friend Jason described it this way: “It’s nasty. Sticky. Soul funk. Thank you.” Here’s the link for those too lazy to look it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBUmwssBQ5M 😉
the Mablehouse amphitheater? We went & saw 38 special & Loverboy there years & years ago.
It was like Chastain but much smaller – I always forget to look & see what shows they have over there.
Yes, that’s the place.
Done with the annual two-day faculty retreat, it was pretty good this year, not nearly as brutal as years’ past. My big excitement now is that my brother is on his way to spend the weekend. He drove down from New Haven to take my niece to college, she’s going to College of Charleston. I haven’t had a family member visit me in the 19 years I’ve been in Atlanta!
