Last night’s ride was hard and fast, well, at least for me. For the first time since I started riding the Meltons ride a few years ago my average speed eclipsed 16.0mph thanks to favorable green lights allowing us to continue pedaling; and thankfully, no flat to report!

Now that it’s only a week away (eek!) I have started looking at weather forecasts for the European cities in which I will be traveling. It’s really hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that everything appears as if it will be fifteen or so degrees cooler than what I have been experiencing for the past three months. What to pack, what to pack?

Wordle: four, my starter was LOTUS
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Purple > Green > Blue

Wordle in 2!! And only had the first letter after my first guess. Slam Dunk!

Dragging this morning after Games meeting last night. I was home “early” but no rest all day. Hell, I even worked for a change!! The firewall changes were successfully tested yesterday, so I’m on the way to scenic Newark tomorrow.

While y’all will be in northern Europe, I’d still expect unseasonably warm temps. Been another hot summer on the continent.

Steve is so right! The forecast might say it’ll be 15 degrees cooler but it’ll feel hot. The hottest summer I’ve ever experienced was in Riga in July. Forecast said low 80s and by golly, it was NOT.

Wordle in 3. Thought I had it in two but guessed the wrong 4th letter. Connections the same as Wee. Y, P, G, B. Strands took a bit of thinking but I used no hints.

Yesterday was uneventful. Weeded the non existent garden, watched a movie, visited a friend in the hospital and ran with GUTS. Said good-by to one GUTS member that is moving to California for work. :(.

I need to start thinking of what to pack as well. Taking warmer clothes takes up more space and I really don’t want to check a bag.

Nothing on the agenda for today except work.

    • Steve says:

International flights have free checked bags- at least they used to… and if it’s a direct flight, less worry.

      • Sally says:

I do get a free checked bag and it is direct…but I still hate checking a bag. We’ll see.

        • Barb says:

I’m trying to decide on a checked bag – that way you don’t have to pay as close of attention to what you bring liquids wise (as in sunscreen bottle, etc, etc.)
I don’t know if I can figure out just a backpack.

          • Jenka says:

I’m with Sally — I hate checking a bag. I just hate waiting for it at baggage claim, I want to be on my way! For a 3 week trip you have to wash clothes anyway, just pack enough for a week and go!

          • Barb says:

Jenka – we may/will be hand washing things on the barge – there is no laundry.

          • Jenka says:

LOL! I know it’s going to be an amazing trip, but the concept of “handwashing laundry on a barge” does not sound fun to me. It’s just funny!

      • Bob says:

I check a bag 99% of the time. I do not like stressing about what I can take or will the bag fit. I also don’t have to schlep everything around the airport. Do I have to wait a bit for my bag sometimes? Yes but it is worth it to not stress about it.

    • I’m checking a bag, no doubt about it for me. I have a backpack that may or may not fit into overhead, so I have no qualms checking it and taking a smaller messenger bag with me onboard.

today is my last day here in Iowa –
time to get all the chores done that’s I’ve been putting off. (vacuuming, mop the kitchen floor, that sort of thing.)

Very nice dinner at Wahoo last night, I love how quiet that place is. Today I have a haircut after work so I put white chicken chili in the crockpot, that is always a fan favorite in our house.

  5. In from a short morning of WLF choring. Thought I could catch some of the TdF Women, but I apparently just missed the ending of today’s stage.

I was looking to see if the TSA would have a problem with me packing my drill and ran across this:

    Magic 8 Ball
For Carry-on bags: We asked the Magic 8 Ball and it told us…Outlook not so good!

For Checked bags: We asked the Magic 8 Ball and it told us…It is certain!

    • Huh, that’s funny. I have been contemplating trying to figure out if I can pack a USB battery brick in my carry on.

      • Steve says:

They get pretty specific, but generally, yes. It’s the Li Ion they don’t want in the checked bags because of the potential fire hazard. Not that they have put smoke detectors into the luggage space like they should…

I thought about you Paul as I rode last night. Did Paul get a flat? I was happy to read your success this morning 🙂
I did manage 20 miles around Roswell/Alpharetta. With the gravel wheels on my bike it was fun to take some random off road options here and there. I also added 2 beer stops which made the ride even more fun.

Bowling tonight and got word my new bowling ball is in! I won’t be able to use it tonight though as it needs to get drilled. This is the first new bowling ball I have purchased in 30 years. I have a used ball I picked up for $15 and another I inherited from my father. I’m excited to have a brand new ball custom fit to me.
