I had a long day of driving, mostly by choice since I opted to make two beer stops, one of which also included lunch. My frustration levels were only tested when I made it into Gwinnett county. Traffic on 85 south was predictably heavy so I used the VIP/HOV lane for a while, choosing to the pay The Man for the privilege of not sitting in traffic. With no such option on 285 I navigated heavy traffic around the cars which were driven by drivers who seemed to be unable to use depth perception, and/or find the accelerator when things opened up.

Even with a morning of watering, the past few days of heat and lack of rain killed most of the plants in WLF; the worst hit were plants in grow bags, which can’t retain water the same way the ground can. It was a complete disappointment that all six of the green peppers growing on plants were shriveled, something for me to keep in mind next year. Also, at least half of the transplants that I put into the ground last week have been decimated by caterpillars, even though I covered them in netting (which just means that the larvae were in the ground already). Today, I will pull the plug on the farm with the exception of a couple of pepper and okra plants. With a nearly three week trip starting next week it’s not worth the effort to try to keep everything going. Better luck next year…

Wordle: four, my starter was FLORA
Connections: perfect, Yellow > Green > Blue > Purple (I had to look up the definition of SOBRIQUET)

Wordle in 4 starting with PROSE. Connections: g, y, p, b. Easy Strands.
Was going to mow the yard but it hasn’t grown much with the lack of rain.
Hoping to go visit a friend in the hospital before they move him to Shepherds for rehab.
Otherwise no real plans have been laid out for today’s activities other than the GUTS run tonight.

Wordle in 5. Coulda been 4.

We think we may be ready to buy the LQ trailer. A friend has one at a cosigner in Aiken that looks about right. Maybe even enough room for the scooter. Going to let it percolate a bit.

Having Olympics withdrawl, but the Womens TdF started yesterday, so there’s that.

If the testing is successful later today, it will be Newark over the weekend starting Thursday. I think Sunday will be my first trip to the city for the Guggenheim museum.

    same ole day around here.
Got mom to eat a little more yesterday, and drink a little more.
She’s been a lot more attentive, which is good, I guess.
A couple of here mahjjong friends stopped by, it was very nice of them, though it was as tough for them as it is for us.

Saw both of the little foxes last night – but they move fast, so its hard to get a picture of them. Miss having the Olympics on TV during the day, and back to baseball at night.

    • I watched more of the Olympics over the weekend than I had for the entire time. I would like to get back the time I used to watched the closing ceremonies because for me it was a confusing and boring waste of time.

      • Barb says:

we had the closing ceremonies on live during the day – had no need to watch again. The opening ceremonies were much better.

  4. Feeling overwhelmed and defeated by WLF this morning. I had to come back inside before I accomplished much if what I had plan to accomplish today.

I feel like I am the only person who finds the Olympics boring. I don’t know why, since I love all sportsing. Both the Red Sox and the Braves snapped losing streaks last night so it was a joyous day in the O’Sullivan household.

We finished A Man in Full last night. I just could not handle how much it deviated from the book and that kind of, not ruined it, but lessened it for me. Kevin said he was able to just ignore the book and enjoy the show for what it was, and he loved it.

  6. Road bike has an incredibly slow, and increasingly aggravating, leak in its rear tire. I know the only real solution is to pull off the rear tire and meticulously inspect it, do the same for the rim tape, and patch the tube, but that is more work than I am willing to do today. So before I ride tonight I will pump the tube up until its has 110psi and hope for the best.

  7. Bob says:

Didn’t do anything yesterday except work, I don’t think I even went outside at all. That changes today dammit, I will go for a ride after work!
Laura is a huge Olympics fan, she watched every day. I enjoy watching people pursue their passions, some really cool stories with the athletes journeys. I watched here and there and caught a bunch of the highlights, overall I enjoyed it but didn’t spend too much time watching.

I will watch this space tomorrow for the Paulie “I had to fix a flat on my ride” update 🙂

I certainly enjoyed the cycling coverage but I also watched a lot of thee shot, pole vault and shorter running races. And the oddball sports you only see at the Olympics- fencing, bouldering- very neat to watch. I never knew how it was a sport, but you can quantify it, so there you go. We tried to watch the breaking, but gave up- music wasn’t loud enough to drown out the idiot announcers!

I put air into the Mazda’s tire last night and still have a TPMS alarm. I think I’m going to use the “Car Talk” repair method and get a piece of electrical tape to cover the light.

  9. I was just about to dump a small cooler’s worth of icy water onto some flowers when I saw something move in the pot. It was a cute little lizard who was strung back at me! So, I dumped the water elsewhere.
