So, did anything monumental happen while I was away?

”You fuckers need to learn how to ride your bikes!”

Was the parting shot an Iowan in Burlington, Iowa yelled at us as we attempted to cross a busy road after completing RAGBRAI. With the exception of a few Burlington asshats, everyone I met in Iowa was really nice.

The week was filled with laughter, tough rides, beer, and food. We had perfect weather all week long, and except for hip pain keeping me from enjoying the after parties and having to pay for everything (much-needed showers now cost $8/shower) things went very well.

I’m glad to be home, getting back into my routine, cleaning up WLF, and starting my dietary changes. I’m trying to figure out what type of doctor can best address my hip problem; or should I start with a chiropractor first?

Wordle: three, my starter was TRADE
Connections: perfect, Purple > Green > Yellow > Blue

Wordle in 3 starting with DRUNK. Connections: y, g, p, b. Breezed thru Strands.

RagBrai was a lot of fun. Need to detox. Drinking and biking was highly encouraged. Had one flat. 458 miles. The bands each night were incredible. Even Bob was out dancing. :). Felt good to be disconnected from technology. Traffic here sucks.

Back to the grind of everyday living.

    Wordle in 4.

Glad you had a good time. You missed a rainy week in Atlanta. The weather held up amazingly nice for Augusta. I negotiated being done on Saturday as we were overstaffed for the crit on Sunday. Judging by the radar, I think they escaped with no rain as well. Good racing all week.

We met Meg for dinner last night and picked up the new CX5. She had it detailed for me and I’m so glad she did because we came home last night to some torrential rain. A nice coating of Rain-X was a big help. The car has lots of bells and whistles and I’ll have to take some time to explore all of them.

Glad y’all survived the week in Iowa.
I will be going back next weekend, but there’s a chance I might go sooner – Mom is not doing well at all.

    Busy weekend –
Friday night I went to a “social” event with a friend at The Battery – that place really has become quite the busy little “neighborhood”. I could only take so much socializing with people I didn’t know, so when my 2 hours free parking was up, I ducked out.

Saturday we went to Newnan to HN & EMs to spend the night – they went to a house concert in Moreland with us – a “trop rock” artist – he’s really a songwriter in Nashville – he had some really good songs.

Sunday was Black Sheep #900 – right down the street from their house. We did an abbreviated version of the trail – actually mushroom hunting with Davey (didn’t find too much).
Came home to our garage fridge making a weird noise. We are pretty sure its the fan motor. Got the coolers out – emptied it out & ran to Publix for some bags of ice. There was some ice in a few places. We’ve got a guy coming this afternoon. I feel like now that the ice is gone it might be ok, but for the peace of mind – I still have the guy coming – it will be worth the $75 service call. (the beer will be ok, but the freezer is/was full, can’t let that go bad)

    • Sorry about your mother.

Good luck with the fridge. If you need help drinking the beer… (sorry, couldn’t resist). 🙂

Every once in a while I miss BS. I’m sure #900 was a great trail, but even if I were still attending I doubt I would have made it to Newnan after arriving home at 4:45am Sunday morning.

      • Barb says:

you are ready for more beer after the week in Iowa? you are a professional!
but anytime -there’s plenty in there to drink

    • Steve says:

You were in Moreland?!?! Wow.. small world.

      • Barb says:

yep- at our friend’s Buzz & Chris’s – didn’t you go with us many moons ago to a house concert there? (when you lived at the Moreland house?)

    • Bob says:

Sorry to hear about your mom Barb.

  4. Jenka says:

Glad you guys had fun at RAGBRAI! What a great adventure!

We got home from Amelia Island on Saturday around 6:00. Sunday Kevin went off to see his boyfriends at Moe’s & Joe’s and I had a delightful afternoon to myself, gearing up for this week. Major, major deadlines this week and my boss is rolling off as dean on Wednesday and the new dean rolls on on Thursday! After a lovey relaxing two week vacation I’m stepping right into the buzz saw! It’s all good, though.

    • Barb says:

always fun to come back to work to the buzz saw! Good luck!!!

    • Speaking of Buzz….

Jenka, I am sure you remember the EAV Buzz message boards? I have noticed that its creator, Captain Ken, seems to be cleaning out their house at the end of my street, possibly to put it on the market?

      • Jenka says:

Hmm, well Cap’n Ken and his wife got divorced several years back, I believe she bought a house in OP just pre-pandemic. Maybe he is downsizing? I’ll have to ask my spies for intel!

  5. Bob says:

What a great week! We had a great crew so there were no issues, just fun times. Nothing but miles smiles and cold beer. My biggest discovery all week? Busch Lite is not terrible LOL!
I was dead yesterday, slept until 10 or so then lazed around the house all day. Cleaning some stuff up and starting laundry. No rest for the weary though, got to start gathering stuff and prepping the camper for a trip this weekend.
Did anybody else watch the Olympic mountain bike race this morning? What a finish!

    • Jenka says:

You got in at 4:45 am and “slept in” until 10:00? You lazy fucker…

    • Barb says:

I watched the women’s mtn bike race yesterday at Head Nurse’s – (USA got a Silver) didn’t even think to watch this morning. Did USA medal?

Kevin was working the TT – I think he got a little TV time – pushing Chloe (Allan’s mom says these names like I know who they are) after her fall. And Aaron (another mechanic) has a sore knee from a fall after tripping – I think that made the TV too.

      • Bob says:

USA didn’t medal but places 1 2 and 3 were in a battle for the last couple laps and it was awesome to watch!

  6. I should have given a special shout out to ITP-Reader Bob for stepping up to do a lot of the bus driving! Bob, Stephanie (a BRAG employee), and Steve (from Thomson) traded off and got us up and back safely… even when the bus blew a tire before we even made it out of Georgia!

  7. Sal says:

One of my co-workers who also works for the BRAVES lives in a 258 apt complex at the stadium that caught on fire. His unit was on top close to were the fire started. He isn’t allowed to go in or even get his car. He only has the clothes he was wearing that night. That sucks. He is here today to get some shoes to wear since he currently is walking around in cowboy boots.

Sorry about your mom Barb. 🙁

I agree with Paulie…I don’t think Steph knew what to think about us at first….but she became one of us. A lot of things were checked off on the bingo card last week.

  8. Whew, WLF is getting a lot of rain today. I have been trying to move saved water from buckets into rain barrels for future use, but have been falling behind.

From the drippage I see happening from parts of my gutters I will have to get up in the roof and clear off my gutter guards when it’s nice and dry again at the end of the week.

    • Barb says:

I don’t think we’ve got much more than some sprinkling rain up here today (guess I should go outside & see)

  9. Barb says:

fridge repair man found even more ice way inside the back panel – so we will let it naturally defrost over night & he will come back again tomorrow afternoon & try again.

    • Steve says:

We’re ready to come drink the beer to keep it from going bad. Just say the word.

      • Barb says:

if I ever really knew when I’d be here, I’d say come on!!!

Tomorrow night if we are feeling crazy, Cobb EMC is having an informational meeting about Solar – and – since we are getting a new roof someday (hopefully this fall), we might go & see what they have to say about the cost & all that shit.
