Hello from a brutally hot Florida. This mini trip to pick up my mother and my possessions from the house. This may be (one of) my last trip(s) here. We are hoping to clear up a few niggles in order to get the house to closing.
BRAG was hard but fun. I flatted again on the last day, providing a nice symmetry for the week. On Saturday I drove Stan home, in part because he needed a ride, and in part so I could check out the ITP Estate and WLF. Both of the items were fine, though WLF needs more attention if I want to reap anything. My other rhubarb plant bit the dust while I was away; this may end my attempts at growing rhubarb.
I have broken out into an inexplicable rash (series of bumps) on my forearms. I don’t think it’s poison ivy, it may be sun related, or perhaps it’s chiggers from the sandy/grassy field in which we sat after crossing the finish line?
Next up on the schedule is RAGBRAI, but before that I need to conduct a couple of medical visits.
Wordle: four, my starter was STAGE
Connections: one mistake, Blue > Yellow > X > Green > Purple
Wordle in 6! Had 4 correct in 4. Bastards.
We are now fully stocked (and stacked) with hay. The first load was delivered Friday afternoon and stacked by 2 teenage GIRLS! Want to feel like an old man? Watch two teenage girls sling hay bales like feathers. The balance was delivered Saturday morning after I got back from 22 miles on the gravel bike.
Friday evening was birthday dinner for a hunt friend. Elliot’s in PTC- a very nice meal. Debbie had a steak and I had meatloaf- both excellent.
Dusted off the scooter to breakfast and errands Sunday morning, then took a lap of silk sheets. Saw a large group of hammerheads leaving the loop as I entered- about 30 riders. Lots of other riders out. Good shade that early, so a good ride.

Steve – I had 4 of the 5 in 2 – took me line 4 to get it
My brother and I were reminiscing last week about slinging hay bales up to the hayloft as kids. He would stand in the bed of the truck and sling the bales up to me in the loft and I would stack them. It was incredibly hard. It’s no wonder I am a devoted city girl now!
Sounds like a heat rash – I’ve gotten that before on BRAG.
Not sure what I put on it- probably just lotion, it should go away soon enough.
BRAG sounded like a good week – big group – must have been fun herding the cats.
Nothing eventful here. Still not sure what’s going to happen with mom. Probably bringing her home, but waiting on the docs, etc. to let us know.
Took Allan to the airport at o dark 30 for his 0600am flight.
it was nice having him here all last week.
I’ll be flying home Sunday morning 6/16.
how long are you staying in FL?
is your brother there too?
Solo trip. Hitting the road before the sun rises tomorrow.
I’m not surprised it’s hot down there. We drove Finn to camp yesterday outside Perry and it was noticeably hotter just 100 miles south of Atlanta. Is the house under contract?
Not much to report. We always do a birthday dinner with our friends Sarah and Elayne; my birthday is next week but they are traveling so we did my birthday dinner at Sotto Sotto on Friday night. I made banana bread on Saturday. Sunday we drove Finn to sleep away camp. No calls overnight so it must be going well!
House is still under contract. We are negotiating some roof repair, hopefully I will no longer be a FL homeowner by July 4.
Greetings ITP peeps!
BRAG was fun, lots of rain to start but end of the week was dry. That 60 mile day in to Milledgeville was brutal! Last rest stop was at a lake and the next 10 miles was uphill in full sun. That was the hardest part of the week. Final day was 70 miles mostly downhill so we all pretty much stayed together all day. Great week though, no drama and the only bad meal experience was the last day when we all tried to get Mexican and the meal took around 2 hours. Not horrible but just took forever.
Looking forward to RAGBRAI then working on a weekend in Thomson for some gravel riding in October some time.
Bob – were you able to iron out the details with Franklin for RAGBRAI?
Great news about trying to put together a weekend in Thomson!
We kind of have some details for RAGBRAI. I’ll let Franklin settle a bit before kicking off communications. However, his wife will be induced on Thursday so he will be a bit busy. I’m sure he will just put me in touch with Stephanie (the driver).
Sounds like BRAG was a great success!
Connections perfect! Blue > green > yellow > purple.
Strands was super easy, I got the spangram immediately and all the other words without ever missing one.
