For last night’s supper I made this Instant Pot Butternut Squash Soup using two pounds of the cushaw squash I roasted on Sunday. The soup tasted great, and I still have an ample amount for leftovers.

Let’s talk real estate. No, not the selling of houses, but rather to opening of businesses. Recently I heard that the Atlanta is getting its first Tim Horton’s. On Monday while driving up Cobb Parkway I saw the development of what I thought might be Georgia’s first Whataburger (I’m wrong about this, but there aren’t many). And finally, why the hell are banks buying property and opening new branches? Okay the answer is always “money”, but in very recent years I have seen a number of banks knock down a business in order to build a new branch. Other than me (who has to go inside a bank once a month until the sale of my mother’s house), goes to physical bank branches?

Wordle: five, my starter was CRAFT
Connections: perfect, Blue > Green > Yellow > Purple (I predict a lot of hate toward Connections today)

  1. I’ve been awake since 4:30. I am going to need a good nap sometime today.

Wordle in 3 staring with TIRED. Staying up too late. So I’m a little tired. lol

2 mistakes in Connections. Purple, Yellow, Green Blue.

Not much to report. On Island time. Beautiful sunrises and empty beaches. Probably going to hit up the new brewery in East Point.

  3. Sal says:

East Point Beer Company. Will probably go to Oyster City too!

  4. steve says:

Wordle in 3, Connections with one error.

Whataburger has been open in Newnan for months, so that’s not new. I think I saw a sign for Tim Hortons going up across North Ave from the V last week (and was a little surprised.)

A good 40 minute ride last night. Thought about going for a run, but was a little late getting home. The workout seemed a little easy when I did it, but my legs are feeling it this morning, so maybe it was harder than I thought, or maybe it was a couple sprints I put in in the end.

Our unit is going out for holiday lunch today. Likely to Taco Mac.

  5. Received a nice sympathy card from one of my childhood best friends, Allison. She now lives on the east coast of Florida, and though I haven’t seen her in 45 years, am considering catching up on one of my journeys.

    • David says:

Having reconnected in life with two childhood friends after multi-decade gaps, I highly recommend it. It’s good for the soul, theirs and yours.

  6. David says:

Lovely evening last night, I introduced one of my oldest friends to two of my newest friends during dinner at Fellini’s. I told them that it was such as treat to have three of my favorite people in the world at the table. I also took Rem to Deepdene Park. We got there after dark, but since there’s no leaves, we were able to see just fine. After all, we finished our 14.4 miles hike in September in the dark, and managed to not fall into the lake. That hike was an extremely helpful reference point for my 12 mile Grand Canyon hike. These are by far the two longest hikes I’ve done since my 20s.

My “tomato tree” has given up the ghost. I plucked the green tomatoes and put them on the window sill. I’ll cut all of the strings holding it the plant to it’s fence pole so that I can pull it up and that’ll be the end of that.

Wordle in 3, only one miss on Connections.

  7. My minimal Christmas decorations are in place. For the last few years I have put something out to indicate the Christmas season, but since I live alone never go “all in” because it’s too much work for a loner. Since I should be arriving at the Florida house on Christmas Eve I may drag out my childhood tree and place it somewhere in memory of my mother. We gave away many ornaments last month, but my mother had a TON, so there will be no shortage of options.

    • steve says:

I think that would be very sweet. I have no idea where all the ornaments are from when I was a kid. Nothing special, but still wouldn’t mind having a few. I do have my train set! A big O gauge (N?) not that little HO stuff.

      • My mother LOVED Christmas (as well as dolls, Disney, and Betty Boop). I’m not sure how reliable one’s childhood memories are, but I have one in mind of coming home from school around Christmas and seeing my mother decorate our New York house while playing Christmas music (on a record player?) and singing along. Given my age at that time, she would have been in her forties.

        • Barb says:

my parents (of course) aren’t able to really decorate, and my brother really isn’t into it. So, we will see of the tree is up when I get there on the 12th. I may be doing it.
But -we really don’t put any presents under the tree either – so to me, the only real reason is for it to be in the picture window.

    • Jenka says:

I hate decorating for a holiday I don’t celebrate personally. I am hopeful that since our house is in complete disarray we can forego the tree this year.

  8. I don’t know whether to blame Apple (probably), or AT&T (possibly) but I have had a lot of trouble playing music on my HomePods recently. Things seem to be fine and dandy, then the song is interrupted, and either started again at its beginning, or another song is played. It’s a First World Problem, but aggravating regardless.

  9. Barb says:

wow- called the dentist office about rescheduling -they can fit me in today!
Since I go to the periodontist in between regular cleaning, I have bad gums, so every 3 months, if I miss one, then I have to reschedule the other, etc.

And – they didn’t get power back until 4:30pm – it went off around 1130.
That had to be so annoying for anyone that had afternoon appts – I didn’t hear them calling anyone, as they had no idea how long the power would be out.

  10. Off to the dungeon to ride the trainer. Will check in again at lunchtime.

  11. Jenka says:

My cold appears to be a little better today, thankfully it’s not too serious.

We tried the new seafood place next to Trader Joe’s last night, Alici. It was really good! Parking in that parking lot is a complete shitshow, but otherwise it’s pretty easy for us to get to.

    • Barb says:

      Trader Joe’s by Piedmont Park?
that parking lot has always been a shit show………..
I always hated going down there because of the parking

Wordle in 3 and eked out a completion on Connections. Green, yellow, blue, purple.

I tweaked the keyboard settings on my iPhone and it isn’t autocorrecting. Not sure if I’ll stick with it, but it was offering some really wonky predictive text. I find that the iPhone isn’t as good in that regard as my Android was, which is surprising to me.

Fun weekend away with pals and ponies. No rain ever fell despite a forecast that caused several of our hunt club members to cancel. I was grateful for the loan of a horse for the weekend, but also really sad not to have one of my own along.

I had two deuces in Wordle over the weekend so that was fun!

Glad to be home and tired from all the driving. I had tentatively planned to go to Thomasville today to swap out horses with a friend down there. I’m not at all disappointed that it didn’t work with his schedule.

  13. Jenka says:

Finally managed to pull off Connections, surprisingly with only one mistake. I literally guessed on everything. That purple category is unacceptable.

    • Barb says:

after that answer – I finally did Connections (2 mistakes)
Yellow – green – blue – purple. And yes – Purple was dumb.

  14. Barb says:

Allan got his Flu Shot / Covid booster today -we will see if he feels more or less sickly than I did.
