Hello from Raleigh. I’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving with the Raleigh Royalty. Thanks to all of you who reached out to ensure that I wouldn’t be alone this Thanksgiving.
Still raining in Raleigh, I’m ready for it to be over. Once again feeling a bit under the weather, perhaps from all of the leaves I dealt with on Monday, perhaps from the change in weather, or perhaps that I am just an unhealthy individual.
Wordle: five, my starter was DRAFT.
Connections: perfect, Green > Yellow > Blue > Purple
Wordle in 5 starting with SAUCE. 1 mistakes in Connections. Green, Yellow, Blue, Purple. That purple category was just dumb.
Glad you have someone to spend Thanksgiving with. I was supposed to pace the 2 hour half but they now need a pacer for the 2:15 group. Slower than I wanted to run but it should be fun anyways. I plan on going to Barb and Allan’s for the feast. Still need to make my quinoa, dried cranberry, roasted Brussel sprout salad. Will do that this afternoon after work. Visiting with mom on Friday. She is spending Thanksgiving at my brother’s. Still have Mia and Emma.
It was such a rainy lazy day yesterday that I could not rally to go the GUTS Tuesday night run.
what??? you skipped a Tuesday GUTS run???
Who are you???
Inconceivable!
Enjoy the half tomorrow! The last time I ran the Thanksgiving half I went home and cooked Thanksgiving for 15 people afterwards. Never. Again.
That’s almost as silly as hosting a Super Bowl party after laying a Black Sheep hash! Lol
Yes, but at least we learn from our mistakes. LOL!
Ahem, some of us do… 😉
I’ll be at the half marathon tomorrow, but on wheels. My friend Stuart and I stumbled onto the race downtown last year and had an epic 11 or 12 mile ride through downtown and Midtown with no stop lights. I’ve been looking forward to doing that again all year. I’m going to try to pull off a refinement this time where we hit that window between when the streets are closed but the runners haven’t started running yet.
Wordle in 6!! I agree the purple connections was dumb.
A big tree came down in the wind at some point yesterday. It snapped about 25 feet in the air and laid down very nicely- missing both the fence line and a gate. The horses were not concerned. Hopefully, I’ll get a better look at it today in the daylight and let my volunteer logging team know a plan.
40 hard minutes while watching a GCN youtube video workout. 4 efforts at 80% for 30 seconds, then 4 for a minute, then 4 for 2 minutes!! I was cooked.
Still in the office, waiting on AT&T, who may or may not show up. Once I know for sure, I can get out of here, or maybe not.
I will expect a blog tomorrow. Bloggers do not get turkey day off.

You will get the same quality of content as always.
We do get what we pay for, that is for sure! 😉
You should expect no less. Oh hell, go ahead and expect less so that I always meet expectations. 🙂
It’s all good, man, we keep coming back for more.
No report from the night out on the town sans Paulie?
David was/is in charge of that.
But – here’s the scoop –
Betsy & I had talked about meeting up – I miss that girl.
David talked about getting cheesesteaks at Fred’s Meat & Bread.
The 2 different events got the same evening date suggested.
So – we combined the outing.
AND – DAVID WAS CORRECT – THAT’S A DAMN TASTY CHEESESTEAK.
Yep, it’s the best cheesesteak I’ve had in Atlanta (which is not saying much). Hope Betsy’s doing great!
Glad it was a good time. Krog Street? That is where Fred’s is if memory serves me correctly.
Yes, accompanied by two rounds of beers from Hop City.
Very nice!
“AND – DAVID WAS CORRECT – THAT’S A DAMN TASTY CHEESESTEAK.” That totally made me LOL earlier, Barb. I haven’t been to Fred’s in a long time and it was definitely as good as I remembered it being. I’ll have to get another one before I’m in Philly next month so that I can have a solid base line for comparison. 🙂
had to give you a shout out – the last few cheesesteaks I’ve had were Meh. I would definitely go back to the traffic & parking hell of Atlanta last night again.
Also – we had until 7:50 for our parking, so we were fine – but the car parked next to us had a boot. That so sucks for them.
That’s harsh on the boot! I always park in the neighborhood on a sidestreet. I refuse to pay for parking at Krog Street.
I’m glad that I could help reset your cheesesteak meter! I’m down with Fred’s any time y’all are.
One mistake in Connections: yellow — blue — green — purple. All around agreeance that the purple category should not have existed.
Wordle in 3 using STEAL.
Our reno is finally going to start on Wednesday! The packers come Tuesday to pack shit up. I am not looking forward to not having a kitchen for 6 weeks.
Air fryer and microwave FTW!
Yippie on the renovation starting!!!
Betsy was telling us about her contractor – hope yours moves a little faster than hers has.
do you guys grill much?
And – Crockpot.
Have you picked out the new appliances?
Steve and Barb — yes, microwave, toaster oven, and crockpot! Plus Doordash!
The only appliance we are getting is a new stove. We’re getting a Cafe brand, which is GM’s high end line. My designer picked it out. The most important thing is that is has a downdraft vent and we are getting rid of the hood that comes down from the ceiling.
When the previous owners did their really shitty renovation in 2014 (we bought it in 2015), they sourced all of the appliances from Craigslist. We know this because the neighbors (who were friends with the owners) told us. So we have had to replace all of the other appliances in the last couple of years. So they are all new and great, but the stove is the last one standing.
The other big thing is our master bath is going to be completely gutted and re-done.
Best of luck. Betsy’s reno is one of the reasons I’ve never done one.
the Cafe brand is nice- and if you need that downdraft vent, that’s the most important part.
conniption day for me –
but Wordle in 4 –
freakin Mini – typed a wrong letter, took me too long to figure it out
Frustrated at my body, again. Have what feels like allergies (or cold) probably from all of the yard work I did on Monday.
And the beat, I mean beat-down, goes on…
If this were seventy years ago I’d be the kid in the Iron Lung.
when Lisa & Randy had a long haired cat many, many, many years I realized cat dander really messes with me. I thought I was getting sick, but an hour after being out of their house, I was fine. Now I know to make sure I take allergy pills when I’m at a house with a cat for extended periods of time.
I have popped an allergy pill. Hope this clears up soon.
OMFG, I had no idea that I was allergic to cats when I started dating my “wife”. I would have horrible reactions. Oddly, it went away on its own after about a year, and from then on I had zero cat allergies. But yes, Paulie, Barb could very well be onto something there.
I scraped the bottom with Wordle again but at least didn’t fall through. I had a single letter in the right spot for three tries. It was frustrating. Perfect score on Connections helped balance that out.
We had a fun ITP IRL gathering last night Krog Street Market. We timed it well, you usually can’t get in that place sideways, which is why I rarely go there any more. One of the things I do love about Atlanta is almost everyone is from someplace else, and almost everyone heads off to some place else when holidays come around. So, it’s the time when I go to places that I eschew the rest of the year.
At any rate, it was so fun to meet Betsy! I’m getting close to completing my “meet the ITP readers” punch card, I still have a couple open spots.
Traditional Thanksgiving has been perpetually ruined for me for more than 15 years now. Once again we’ll be at Six Feet Under for the friends and family day. We had a pretty legit in before by being neighbors, but we have truly earned a seat at the table since Rachel has worked there for a year and a half now. Open bar, the only cooking is a side or two, no dishes, NO FAMILY DRAMA, I can’t ever go back to real Thanksgiving ever again. 😉 😉 😉 Drinks in Oakland Cemetery afterwards is a definite part of the tradition.
We’re splitting the team and while Debbie goes to Meansville (no, that really is the name of the town) I’ll be going to Stone Mountain where my nephew and his SO share a home. Since I haven’t seen some of my family since the before times, I thought I’d check in. And yes, everyone lives in the metro area…
Sorry, grand-nephew.
We’ve got 16 or so coming here – we are cooking 2 turkeys – the rest of the food everyone brings. Sure there’s a few dishes, I like real silverware, but we will have Chinet plates.
I’m sure we will need to go to the recycle place to get rid of all the wine bottles.
And- Charlotte is coming back to the scene of her fall down the stairs – we are debating giving her some bubble wrap to keep her safe. 😉
Kara invited us to the Six Feet friends and family dinner but we are doing our own thing. Just Kevin, Finn, and me. We’ll watch football and snack all day. I will cook the whole meal whilst sipping champagne and listening to my book-on-tape. Then Friday we head up to the cabin for the weekend.
The biggest thing is that I bought a new KitchenAid mixer! It’s so pretty! I’m going to make my famous frozen cheesecake this afternoon so it’ll be ready for tomorrow.
Let’s see if this photo will work:

She’s pretty! I love the color.
It’s called Blue Velvet!
The Six Feet Under gathering probably isn’t your scene. There’s an ebb and flow to it, some years it’s slam-packed, and when that happens the following year tends to have a lot fewer people, but it’s always a crowd. I have lot of fun with it either way.

I have no idea how that posted twice. The blog cop must be taking the day off, it usually chastises me for attempting to post something twice.
It’s definitely not my scene, and there are also a couple of regulars who I can do without.
very nice Jenka – my KitchenAid that I rarely use is a darker blue color. I need to use it for something one of these says soon.
I have a gray one that got left with me. Rachel breaks it out sometimes.
I have a white one, as should everyone. Lol
My previous mixer was named Kevin. He gets to take a break this year and let KitchenAid do the work. 🙂
Wordle in 5, that was a frustrating one. Perfect connections – green, blue, yellow and the dumb purple one.
Chicken Little is slightly wounded from walking through the tree debris. She scraped up one of her hind legs pretty good. I’m about to head out for our maiden ride. I hope she’s as sensible as advertised.
George has officially lost it. He peed in the house for the first time since the week we got him. I can’t believe how traumatized he is. I think I’m just going to start putting him out to roam free. He’ll be happier and we’ll just have to keep picking up the deer parts he brings home.
After I ride, I’ll start cooking. I’m looking forward to it. We’re not making our normal slate of pies – just pumpkin, so I’m trying out some new things.
Hope everyone has a lovely holiday!!
well that stinks about George
