Yesterday I finished reading a novel. Let that sink in for a second, I, Paulie, finished reading a novel! 😀 The novel was “The Girl on the Train”, which I had picked up from a little library near the ITP Estate. I read it in what is for me an incredibly short time, five days. And the best thing about finishing it was that it became yesterday’s decluttering item when I walked it over and deposited it into another little library for someone else to read.

I signed up for a year of BritBox. While the service unfortunately doesn’t have the latest episodes of British shows that I have been using YouTube to watch, it does have the complete series episodes of shows I watched on PBS as a child, such as “Good Neighbors” (aka “The Good Life” in Britain). This show, about a man who quits his job at forty to become self-sufficient, must have laid some of the foundation for what I have been doing for the past two years.

Last night’s bike ride had a new participant — Dean, aka Jackass. He was getting in a ride prior to heading to Europe for EuroHash. I remember considering going to this when registration opened last year. My how the time flies.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was THING. I know that yesterday’s solution started with a T, but for some reason I am going to continue to play T-words for the rest of the week.

Wordle in 4, also starting with a T word.

My draining sinuses Monday became a hacking cough Tuesday and has me home and drugged today.

Well – did something I never thought I’d do this morning – went to a grocery store (Kroger) grand opening. Man o man is that store HUGE. We just wandered thru – found a couple things we needed & checked out. They were giving away free buns & loaves of bread as we were leaving – that was funny.

Well that’s fun! The ever expanding size of Kroger stores is a big reason why I don’t shop there. Unfortunately the Summerhill Publix declined pretty rapidly after opening day with outages on the shelf and a lack of cashiers up front, so I’ll stick with the Madison Yards location.

Another skin of my teeth Wordle. It took me 4 tried to get a partial match on a second letter.

wordle in 3 – but I used some google help, as my brain could not come up with a word but I knew the last 3 letters.

Last night a friend screwed up ordering online Barbie movie tickets, and had 2 for an 8pm show she could not use. I got Annette lined up & we attempted to go – but it was at the theatre at The Battery & the Braves are in town. No parking anywhere!!!! I wasn’t going to pay $20+ to park to go to a movie I don’t really care if I see at the theater.

It was entertaining seeing all the Braves fans wandering around, not at the game that started at 7:20. Don’t they realize the game is shorter now with the new pitching rules? (yes, I know some people that complain the games are too short now for the price they paid for the tickets)

We gave up, and went to a little place down the way for a beverage, since we were out & about. $5 martini night. I don’t drink much liquor, so I think I have a little headache from the vodka today.

I forgot to mention yesterday that I got rid of two bathroom products, like personal health/beauty products. You know how you think you’re going to use some hair or body thing and you never do and they sit in your bathroom cabinet? I got rid of two of those!

We went to Wahoo for dinner last night. That place is so chill.

  6. Choring which required me to drive up Briarcliff. Weird police activity near North Decatur through Clifton, police motorcycles zooming past me and them blocking intersections. No idea why.

By the way, Paulie, I read The Girl on the Train too, it might have been last year. I liked it a lot.

    • Barb says:

that looks like an interesting movie – I may skip the book & just watch the movie

      • Barb says:

and – (not surprising) Allan has it in his movie collection – I am starting it right now.

        • Lol. The book was good, but the movie got mixed reviews. I may wind up watching it one day.

My eyes don’t like reading that much anymore, so if there is a move option, I will take it.

Went back to the new Kroger to get some BOGO pork butt – we made room in the freezer.

AND – realized they don’t have their liquor license yet – so no beer or wine for sale – those aisles were blocked off.

  8. Back from my limited choring which included a trip to Buford Highway Farmers Market. I should have been better prepared, but I got some cool stuff with which I will experiment this week.

Another tomato sandwich lunch, this time on French bread. I made a mess, which is why I now understand why Wonder (white) bread is the bread of choice.

  9. Today’s WLF Critter Frustrations include:
    – losing nearly all of the carrots, perhaps ten, I had in ground because the critter got under my netting (note to self: war is on!) and made a buffet out of them.
    – losing the one mystery melon (I thought it was a spaghetti squash from its shape, but it’s coloring was wrong) because a critter ate enough of it to pierce the skin, thus rendering it inedible for my consumption.

    Dangen!

Just finished The Girl on the Train movie – I can see why you read it is 5 days, I bet it keeped you interested. I liked the movie.

I’m glad we had this discussion. The author has a few other books, so that gives me something new to read if I ever finish the Michael Connelly book I’m reading. It’s not him, it’s me having a bandwidth issue.

  11. I guess no one won Mega Millions last night?
