One of the last things I expected to encounter on Saturday night was the M6’s goddamn TMPS alarm going off on my drive home from meeting my buddies in Chamblee. I woke up yesterday and checked the pressure in each tire, and if you can believe it, I discovered that after only one day one of the tires has a fucking nail embedded it. FFS, it’s not like I am driving around construction sites or anything like that. I am returning to Discount Tire this morning, hopefully the insurance I purchased will mean that they will patch it for free. I wasn’t feeling physically/emotionally great before discovering this new problem, and this turn of events really derailed my day.
One good thing to happen this weekend was discovering a little library that also is a jigsaw puzzle swap! I grabbed a free puzzle on my walk, and will return it when I am done, as well as the one I completed a few weeks ago to keep the cycle going.
I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was TREAD, apropos for all of the tire nonsense with which I am dealing.
Wordle in 5, starting with SATIN.
Our trip to Lexington was shortened when we decided not to buy the horse. This decision came around 2 Saturday afternoon, so we headed back to the hotel and headed South. It’s a nice town with a thriving downtown. But out amongst the horse farms, the roads can be super narrow and very rolling, which means cyclists are uncommon. No moving north.
As we went to leave the trailer friday (where the potential new horse lived) the truck wouldn’t start. Ater a quick jump, we went to the hotel, then I headed to the auto parts store for a new battery. While in the parking lot swapping the battery, another customer thought he saw something dripping from our truck. A quick oil check saw it could use a quart, and once I got back to the hotel, I parked over a reasonably clean space. checking on the way to dinner, there was no leaking.
16 miles of CX yesterday before the rain. Off to get some lab work this morning.

bummer on no new horse – but Debbie will keep looking & find the right one eventually – I Know her.
In nearly had an M6 problem greater than tires this morning when I was almost rear-ended on Moreland Avenue while driving to the Waschsalon. How ironic would it be to total a car with four brand new tires, three of which are still in near-perfect condition?
I’ve been rear-ended once on Moreland, headed north in front of the former Zesto’s. The person behind me was looking at the wrong set of stoplights. It didn’t total my car, I think it did $5,000 of damage, which her insurance covered.
Back from the blood draw. No rear-ending and 4 good times. Debbie’s truck has a continuous tire pressure alarm I’m going to fix with electrical tape.
I haven’t seen a street sweeper in FOREVER -so nails & shit in tires are just a way of life anymore. Go to Discount Tire -they will get you fixed right up. I have found having an appt really moves things along faster. That’s totally a bummer, but it should be a quick fix. The Discount Tire I go to is over by The Battery, so if it is going to take long, I go for a walk & they text when it is done.
I am contemplating just dropping in, but I think that I want to eat lunch in Chamblee so I might kick around until my 11:45am appointment.
You can always go in early for the appt – I think they just like to have all your info in the system ahead of time- makes it easier that way.
If you are ever bored, I eat lunch every day, you can come to Marietta.
Soon I will take you up on a lunch date. As I realize that I might have to work for The Man again some day I want to take advantage of the freedom I currently have.
Weekend was busy enough –
Went to the RV show down on Jonesboro Rd – it got WAY TOO PEOPLEY by noon, and I got tired of it quickly. Saw 1 camper we liked, that had a slightly smaller version (not at the show), so went to McDonough to check it out. Glad we did, didn’t like it as much in person. Then came back home to Marietta to 3 Way Camper to check out a different one, didn’t like it as much in person, but found a totally different one that might be the 1. They said they will hold the show pricing for 2 weeks, so maybe Wednesday or so we will go see if we can make a deal. Never thought we’d end up buying new, but people spent too much buying over the past few years & no one is selling used campers cheap enough. Might has well buy new & get the warranties.
We almost went to the RV show on Sunday but since we are not really in the market for a new camper we didn’t feel like dealing with the crowds.
Good luck on the new rig, we need another trailer for STU.
Bob – the main reason we are looking hard now is STU. We need it all ready by then.
Sunday went to Pho Bac in Chamblee (or is it Doraville?) for lunch, and a small Chinese New Year celebration started up as we were leaving the restaurant. Lots of firecrackers & some dragons. Got a little extra culture with our lunch.
Went to Super H Mart to look around (& get some veggies) on the way home. Not really sure if their prices are good, but damn they have a cool selection of foods. Allan got some new to him dried ramen to try, he was very excited about all the selection.
Dorablee? Chamville?
As we drove home Saturday, going past the Braves stadium, the fireworks were going off big time. I wonder if they just had expiring inventory to blow?
we were over in East Cobb at a pizza/Greek place Saturday night, so we missed hearing/seeing any fireworks.
No idea what was going on over there (and my internet searching skills are not that good to find out about past events)
Did you get pho at Pho Bac? I mentioned on IG that I used to know the owners of Hoa Binh grocery store, and now that I think of it, you may have met my former coworker Duke once or twice.
yes – we got pho at Pho Bac. I did meet Duke way back when. Almost went into that grocery store, since the fireworks & dancing dragons were happening, but watched for a little while, then decided to get out of there & go to Super H Mart.
I made a day trip to Knoxville on Saturday and had lunch with my friend Tammy who I haven’t seen in 40 years. It was great to catch up. I also did some hiking with my friend Debra who I’ve known since 8th grade, and then later dinner with her husband and one of his friends. It was really a good for the soul day.
Yesterday I mostly laid around because of the weather.
The worst thing about Wordle is having the first three letters in the correct position on the third try. That set off a couple rounds of letter roulette and I barely eked out a save on the 6th attempt. Starting word was GROWL since my little dog Eddie (chihuahua/pit bull mix, yes, he’s a total mess) was indicating it was time to get his show on the road this morning.
Excellent sounding adventure!
After two guesses I had three correct letters, all properly placed. There were too many options remaining so my third guess was far off the plantation (I know, I am not supposed to use that phrase any longer), which eliminated enough possibilities to give it to me in four.
It was definitely excellent. I’m glad I went. Kudos to you to avoid Wordle roulette, that’s the damn worst to me. “Far off the map” is a more acceptable modern metaphor. 🙂
When Betsy said “You can’t use that phrase any longer!” I said “Fine. ‘Off the reservation then’!” 🙂
That’s just what I thought!! Oops. Back to another sensitivity class for us!
got Wordle in 5 – should have been 4. Oh well.
I haven’t been to Knoxville in forever & ever. Sounds like a good roadtrip.
All I really remember is it was a football weekend & I heard Rocky Top WAY TOO MANY TIMES. We weren’t going to the game, but damn everyone there wanted to hear that song over & over & over.
Yeah, if I never hear that damn song again it’ll be too soon. I lived in Knoxville from 8th grade through high school. My parents stayed there some number of years. It’s nice to be able to return to Knoxville and not feel haunted by my childhood. Therapy for the win!
Oh, and Barb, I’ll be passing by your neck of the woods twice today, I’m guest teaching a class at Kennesaw State today at 12:20. I’ll wave when I go by, unfortunately I can’t do lunch or anything.
David – any time you have time, I’m always game for lunch company (or dinner time, especially if traffic is crappy, which it usually is)
I was in a wedding where I was paired with a woman who graduated from UT. The bride and groom both knew how much I hated Rocky Top (being a Gator and all) and had that as our introduction song…
Bummer about the tire Paulie, Discount tire will make it right. They are really good about that and since it is new replacement will be non impactful.
I’m sure it will be fine. Hell, if they have to replace the tire for some reason the pro-rate should be 99%. It’s just the slap in the face that it occurred the day after I got new tires, because the last set wound up getting a nail and screw. I even walked around in the street around my driveway to see if something had been dumped into my street accidentally.
Been sleeping a lot but still constantly feel run down. As I mentioned in my discussion about yesterday it’s starting to weigh on me mentally as well.
Turns out, what I saw didn’t penetrate the tire, but, Discount Tire found a leak at the stem so the fixed that for free.
I made it a meat day by eating an amazing plate of schezuan twice cook pork for lunch.
Home now, did a little jigsaw puzzle work, may take a nap prior to coding.
