I was sick all day yesterday, so no World Cup viewing at Midway Pub for me. It also put a major cramp in my plans for this week as I was contemplating getting away today. I am feeling a Little better today, so if I can get all of my shit together this morning I may still, but my sickness came at an inconvenient time.
Another weekend where my favorite football teams came up short again. Unfortunately I am used to rooting for losers.
I solved today’s Wordle in five attempts; my starter today was SYRUP
At the Waschsalon. I am continually amazed how many people drive in the dark/dawn without using their headlights. It’s even more alarming when they are driving black or dark gray vehicles.
Greetings from Ellijay. This weekend’s guided activity was the most intense experience of my life but incredibly redemptive. Shout out to Barb for stocking me up with firewood. I burned every last stick. It was fun meet Allan for the first time and thank him for his service as a firefighter. I did find that having gas fireplaces at home (4 for those of you keeping count…yeah, that’s a flex ) means that my fire building skills had gone fallow. I couldn’t keep the fire lit to save my life Friday night. Saturday I spent a fair amount of time on it and got it going well. Sunday night that sucker lit right up.
I’m mostly packed up, drinking coffee and then I’ll do a stroll along the river before I head back to town for lunch with a friend, have a therapy session to process the weekend’s activity, and then back to the salt mine to teach this afternoon.
glad you figured out how to get the fire started! That wood is very seasoned ( I guess that means old)- so it should have burnt pretty easily once you got it started!

I hope you feel better soon, Paulie. I started Wordle today with CLEAR and stopped after the third try. Maybe I’ll pick it up again later today.
Sounds like an interesting weekend.
Thanks, slowly rounding the bend and may still shove off today so that I don’t have to pull an all-day drive tomorrow.
Wordle too9k all 6 today and I was glad. I finally threw up a few known losers to eliminate letters.
Opening hunt Saturday was fun. A good crowd on 4 “Tally Ho” wagons. Plenty to snack on as we rode along. Some good views of the field as they rode. Otherwise, a hayride. The catered lunch was tasty and despite our best efforts of winning the raffle of several pallets of horse feed, we came home empty.
What happened to Tennessee? Or what got into South Carolina?? Wow. Several other good games Saturday- some much closer than expected.
Sunday was a chore day and a lazy day. Watch Ecuador run circles around Qatar (which we apparently, we pronounce wrong). Rode 40 hard minutes on the trainer.
David, so glad you had a good weekend away.

I say “cutter.” Is that wrong?
Apparently, that’s pretty close for us non-Arabic speakers.
YES! *fist pump*
Steve, it was amazingly productive.
I had a busy weekend –
Friday night had the drive by visit from David, and some friends over for dinner.
Saturday morning I finally went & picked up by wine I had purchased at the Marietta Wine Market Expo – ordering wine while buzzed can get pricy, but at least all the bottles were $20 or less & 15% off.
Went for a walk to get cash (I need a destination when walking, otherwise I get bored & turn around sooner) so it was a 5 mile walk. Perused Microcenter for some things I need to set up a work station in Iowa.
Anyone got an extra basic keyboard (wireless or not) &/or docking station (need more USB ports) they want to get rid of?
Saturday night went to the Straight No Chaser show at the Fox, thanks to Jenka’s generosity. It was fun, never been a huge acappella fan, so it was interesting. And – the bougie addition of the Marquee Club made it very cool. Kevin Beebe was my date, since Allan had to work.
Looked like you had a great time! It turns out I was too sick to go anyway. All’s well that ends well!
A very, very quiet weekend for me. Friday we went to George’s for dinner. I got my second booster on Friday and Saturday I woke up siiiiiiiick. I stayed in bed all day. Guess the booster is working! Sunday I made a big vat of corn chowder with ham and potatoes and also made arancini for the first time in my deep fryer. It took me four whiffs to finally get it right, but when I did they came out beautifully! Finn went to his mother’s last night so we are officially without responsibilities for the next week. Whee!
Where you going, Paulie?
Headed to visit the Raleigh Royalty for Thanksgiving. Thinking of overnighting in Charlotte today, and if I do stopping outside of Athens to eat barbecue at a restaurant mentioned on True South.
bummer you didn’t feel well, but at least you could just hang at home & be sick.
Sunday morning we went to the Monet Immersive Experience – this one is on Buford Hwy just outside the perimeter. It was really good, I learned a lot about Monet. I like that he painted the same thing so many times – seeing the differences was fun.
On the way home we wanted to do the breakfast buffet at Rio Steakhouse (its only $8.99, very curious about it), but got there a little too late. The regular buffet was going to be too much, so we just ordered Brazilian sandwiches. VERY GOOD, but it took FOREVER, I think we were there at least 2 hours. Almost everyone in there was Brazilian, and they all were attacking that buffet & meat counter. Very nice experince, & of course the World Cup game was on the TVs.
I was underwhelmed by the Van Gogh exhibit at Pullman Yards, and I saw an amazing Monet exhibit at the Art Institute in Chicago so I’m going to be snobby and not go. 🙂
Barb, did you happen to notice how much longer the Monet show was going to be around? He’s always been a favorite.
And I wish we had been available to take those tickets, Jenka. (no offense, Barb). I knew we would be wasted after Opening Hunt, and we were…
The only reaction from my booster last sunday was a sore arm. I guess I’m lucky.
Steve – until the end of December for sure – I don’t know if it will go in to 2023 or not
Well, Google Maps let me down. Drove to outside of Athens to eat bbq only to find the restaurant is only open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays. Google Maps says otherwise.
Wordle in 4 starting with SALON.
Fun weekend but I still feel like crap so booking an appointment with a gastroenterologist to see if they can figure it out. Rode a horse for the first time in nearly a month yesterday. That was a big boost to my mental health.
Sadly, we’re going to let Izzie go this afternoon. She started having seizures late last week and they are getting more frequent. She’s nearly 15 so I’m not willing to put her through a bunch of diagnostics. She’s had a good long life as a most excellent farm dog.
Safe travels Paulie and sorry you and Jenka had sickly weekends. Glad you’ll be over it for the holiday though!
we are on fire – outside Christmas lights are up!
