Well, my BRAG is over. I am glad that I did it, but unfortunately in riding nearly two hundred miles over three days I never found “Happy Paulie”, he may be gone for good. What I did find were long rides, sore muscles, knees, and nether regions, a bleeding chin (not from falling, from a bump I discovered on the drive down and couldn’t stop scratching), a lot of beer (some good, some bad), a bunch of great friends, some delicious Italian ice, and a lot of hurry up and waiting for nearly everything. I rode most of the first day with the fast kids, and nearly all of the second and third days alone. The farm tours advertised were a complete bust. After four hours on the bike yesterday I hopped onto the non-air-conditioned BRAG school bus (the same one that I rode to Iowa six years ago) for a 2:45 ride from Dublin to Columbus; it wasn’t pleasant. We arrived in Columbus after 6:00pm, I promptly hit a Burger King for an Impossible Whopper with fries and a Coke, and then drove home.

Here is a Chattahooligan Team Photo:
My BRAG 2022
Guess who is the only one not wearing a team jersey? #OneOfTheseThingsIsNotLikeTheOther
On the ground is Franklin, BRAG’s owner/organizer.

Would I do it again? Maybe.

Today I have to figure out how to dry my tent from Monday’s rain.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was STORM

  1. NYT Mini Crossword in 55 seconds. Not in the mindset of trying to be quick this morning.

  2. 2.5” of rain and heavy winds battered the fuck out of WLF.

My strongest looking zucchini plant, which has provided with a single, slug-nibbled zucchini, now appears rotted at the stem. The only tomatillo plant to make three tiny tomatillos, snapped in half. All tomato plants are blown over. Dangen!

I heard Marty wasn’t supposed to have a jersey, but Harold gifted it to him.

I haven’t looked outside to see what’s happened in our yard. Next door neighbor is having something done, I texted her asking about the commotion (the fun of working at home) and she said gutters & she isn’t sure what else. They are a day late on those gutters………

    • Correct. Marty was going to wear Jops’ jersey since he couldn’t make it. Harold then promised Marty he could have his.

Sadly all of the non-riders for this year — Cameron, Sarah, and Twigs — are visiting today, the day after I left.

I tried to bribe Steve to ensure I get future invites to Thomson rides, but the four-pack of beer I bough him while in Perry wasn’t exactly the correct beer. Whoops!

  4. Steve says:

Well, you did it and there’s that. I think there was a lot of rain last night in the city. As I sat in the hot tube last night, there was a lot of lightning dancing around but no thunder. I thought it was heading our way, but the roads were dry until I got North.

17 on the CX bike. Was going to take the longer way home, but instead short cut through the Bear Creek trails. I discovered a new gate where the Amazon drivers would continue and get stuck. I think it’s a BEAR Creek lock, so I know the code. That will be handy when I want to do some trail maintenance, like to clear the tree blocking the trail I was on yesterday.

Wordle in 4 and it should have been 3. The moment I figured out the letter used twice (hint hint) I had it. F’ers.

    • Well done you!

Speaking of Amazon, I wonder how many more multi-million Square foot distribution centers they will build. It seems no matter where I drive these days I see at least one.

  5. On the squash seedling front, the “just for kicks” plants are doing well, the seeds I selectively chose and planted with care have not even sprouted. The more you know…

    • Barb says:

my best looking tomato plants are the volunteers I got from you.
the transplanted purple basil (thought it was about dead, but stuck it in a pot) is looking a little alive, it may grow after all.

  6. And yes, I am skipping a weigh-in this week. Sure I rode over 190 miles, but I ate and drank quite a lot of calories. Next week.

  7. Barb says:

My “fun” afternoon yesterday- We have a front loading washer, I mentioned to Allan I feel like it has a “smell” to it – common problem – even after I had run bleach thru it. So Allan messed with the plug at the bottom & cleaned it out. I guess he didn’t screw that plug in tight enough, so when I went out to switch my laundry from the washer to the dryer, I had a very wet garage. Luckily- nothing in the garage to ruin with water, I just got to have fun mopping up water. Ran our big fan all afternoon & night to make sure everything is dried out. I was just happy it wasn’t a real problem.

  8. Driving to an appointment, saw a sign on LaVista “Homes starting at 1.5M”. This world has gone fucking mad!

  9. David says:

Wordle in 3 starting with CRANE, Mini in 56 seconds, Heardle fail, something from Paulie’s 00’s indie era.

I actually felt some strength in my arm for the first time today during PT. Persistence pays off. Imagine that.

  10. Barb says:

the Flamingo got stolen by Franklin, the BRAG FB page is cracking me up. Not sure if he’s cross posting it all on Insta, but its hilarious.

  11. Debbie says:

Wordle in 5 starting with STORE.

Mouse number 3 (or possibly 1 mouse that can’t kick its dog food habit) is in the food bin waiting for Steve to come home. It has a nice shiny coat and looks nicely plump – effer.

Yesterday was farrier and vet day for the horses and tomorrow is vet day for the dogs. Shaping up to be a very expensive week!

Good bit of rain here this morning. My tomatoes are looking fantastic. Hope I can keep them on track to actually producing ripe fruit. Basil and sage are thriving as well. I’m really pleased with the fabric pots I’m using – nothing is suffering from over-watering.

The prodigal cat has returned after multiple days missing. I was once again resigned to his demise, but he was demanding breakfast this morning. He must be going to a neighbor for a change of scenery.

I’m forcing Steve to watch Peaky Blinders. The first episode did not grab us. Hope it improves soon.

  12. Should probably remind myself that I haven’t ridden 60+ miles today and stop eating so much food.

  13. Barb says:

I went to the periodontist – just to give them way too much money & sign a bunch of ppwk – I get my 2 implants 6/21. So not excited, but it will be nice to someday have lower back molars again.
