Welcome to February.

It was kind of a tale of two different days weekend, though the weather disappointed me both days.

On Saturday I walked with Betsy and then returned home to work the backyard. Sadly my garden plot project is frustrating me and when I realized that I was starting to do less-than-stellar work I had to take a break from it. I have three of the five beds in place, but have to find a lot more dirt and do a lot of work to get the final two in place and lay the rest of the pavers. I was able to do some of the other chores I had in mind and my little birdie friend paid a visit, so the day wasn’t a complete wash. The evening was definitely fun as Bonnie came by and we had some beers while sitting around a fire; we even saw an opossum walking along a fence, and Bonnie saw an owl.

Yesterday morning I awoke feeling sniffly with a runny nose. Sadly because the weather was shit and I never felt 100% I skipped Black Sheep; at least this wasn’t supposed to be my triumphant return to running trails. However, it was exceedingly depressing to me not to attend even though all I would be doing would be a little walking and beer drinking.

Yesterday I also made the decision to pull the plug on the idea of visiting the Raleigh Royalty for the Super Bowl this year. As to be expected many factors led to my decision, including COVID. I thing my decision is the “right” one, but it bums me out a bit.

Today I am at the Mazda dealership in Jonesboro. I’ve brought the M6 in for routine maintenance, as well as finding out about an issue it’s having. I ran the numbers for getting a new car this year (a Subaru Crosstrek) but don’t think it’s a wise financial decision for me at this time. Yikes, this routine maintenance visit is very expensive just for the routine maintenance. I know, dealership pricing, but it’s more than $200 more than the highest estimate that I would have guessed. Still cheaper than a single car payment, however…

Hope your weekend was a complete success.

  1. Netflix just announced they are raising their price $1/month. Hmmm. ☹️

However, that’s nothing compared to the $1200 of additional maintenance I just authorized. Now I’m up to three monthly car payments. 😡💰💰💰💰💰 This routine maintenance now costs as much as I paid for my first car in the 1980s.

      😮😮😮. Been there, sadly.

I think my first car was $1,600 in 1991. An ‘84 Mustang. With T-tops! I financed it for 2 years. My parents bought my sister a car, but their reasoning was they financed a 3-week trip to the (former) USSR for me so they “owed” my sister something.

Several folks asked where my partner in crime was yesterday. And you were there in spirit as I mentioned you in trail trial, “This Black Sheep trail was so easy even WLB with his hurt knee could’ve done it.” 😁

I said I was going to Moonlight tonight but I’m already regretting that decision as it’s going to be nearly freezing with pushing 20 MPH winds! There better be some damn good heaters on Bold Monk’s patio.

It hasn’t been advertised much but there’s also a Tutu Trail / POSH hash Tuesday night 2/2 in Tucker. Weather will be about the same that evening too(tu). Brrrrr!

    • LOL. Even though I am still a gimp I hated missing yesterday, because now we are even further out of sync for jubilees.

After this morning I’m not sure I can afford the $1 for Moonlight.

      • Bonnie says:

Don’t forget you owe an additional dollar for last week. 😉 🤗 😘 I could cover you. I wonder what my situation will be when I take in the Accord. That sound it makes these days concerns me…

Funny, I walked up to High Dicker’s car yesterday, opened the door, and was confused for a moment… 🤣🤣🤣

Kind of a wasted weekend for us.

Our plan for hunting Saturday was dashed as 2 out of 4 dogs had the bad booty Friday night/Saturday morning. I was oblivious mostly, as Debbie got up with them. I generally get up every night to let them out and rarely have a problem going back to sleep, but not her. Instead, we went to breakfast at the Cafe, made a feed run, got the previously stretched electric fence hot in anticipation of Mickey. Sous vide steaks and creamed spinach for dinner!

Sunday was supposed to be Mickey’s arrival, but we knew he would be running a lot, meeting his new family, and it was so wet and slippery, we postponed until Tuesday.
Rented and watched Avengers-Endgame. Very cool. Debbie said the final scene at the funeral was shot at Carl Bukheart’s farm in Chatt Hills. Carl is one of the masters at Bear Creek.

On Friday nights ride, my trainer stopped talking Bluetooth. After several reboots, I said F it and gave up. Nothing in the doc to troubleshoot, but when I tried it all again on Saturday, it was fine. Screwy. Sunday’s ride was halfway up Alp du Zwift- 45 minutes!! What a leg breaker.

  4. ETA for car completion is ninety minutes. I wish that I could take a nap.

  5. Interesting, YouTube has replaced its logo on the home page with a multicolor BHM which I assume is for “Black History Month”?

  6. Steve says:

Just read that Tony Bennett has Alzheimer’s. Apparently, they just decided to go public and he was featured on CBS Sunday Morning yesterday. I read the story in the AARP newsletter. So sad to be in a hollow shell, but yet still be able to rehearse twice a week and remember all the music.

    • I saw that headline this morning on one of the newspaper websites I hit while waiting for my car.

For all my griping the car is running smoothly, let’s hope it stays that way for awhile.

I stopped at Aldi to buy more cheap food since I’ll be cutting corners for awhile to compensate for such a pan unexpectedly high auto repair bill today. Tonight’s dinner, since I will probably not be going out(side) for Moonlite will be part of a $2.75 frozen pizza. Yum!
