I want to make a vegetarian Irish stew tonight but not sure it’s worth the trouble/risk/whateverthefuck of going to Kroger to purchase the few ingredients I need…
I’m having the same conundrum with some items I need from Kroger as well. I think I’ll get by making recipes I can make with what I have on hand and see if Thursday it’s okay to leave my bunker for a few hours to do laundry and shop for groceries.
Friends gifted me with Instacart funds when I was laid up after surgery. It was a Godsend. 🙂 As for the restaurants, a lot of those services are doing free deliveries right now too, which is nice. As for huge markups, yeah, I just avoid those restaurants. You obviously see what you’ll be paying before you hit order.
In the office, but there was almost no one on the roads (relatively). The few folks that are here- Cash, Law Enforcement, and Facilities really can’t work from home. We are only here to support them, so…
Of the 10 board/search committee folks who interviewed Debbie, only 3 were present and 7 by video. She said it went well and she thought she answered the questions about the P&L correctly. Fingers still crossed.
A little riding (indoors) last night. Should have gotten on the road, but at least I got my CX bike ready to get back out.
My 15 year old air compressor blew a gasket (literally) and Sears doesn’t carry the parts anymore. I remember my dad making gaskets by hand- seems like the auto parts store would have the material. Stay tuned…
Surprised you are in the office today, but get it.
Of course I wish the best to Debbie.
My goal is to put 45 minutes on the trainer today. If the rain stops and the roads dry I might attempt an afternoon ride later in the week. Sadly I won’t be preparing for BRAG Spring Tune Up since that’s been moved to October this year.
I’m not afraid of going to the grocery store, just wash your hands after & try not to get to close to people.
I do have enough groceries to last quite a while………….
some friends had talked about going out for St Paddy’s Day tonight, I have a hard time believing that the band will still be playing.
May go out to lunch today – before they close down everything – help out a small business owner.
One good thing to come of this is that I am making a meal plan for the week. This afternoon I’ll inventory my pantry so that I have delicious, fattening food available for me the rest of the week.
Meal planning done. If I want to be inflexible I need to go to a grocery store prior to preparing dinner on Thursday.
Making Virtual Lemonade from Virtual Lemons:
– I will be using a crockpot for the first time in a long while since I’ll be around all day.
– I will finally make an attempt to make no-knead bread this week.
My dermatological problems (you still don’t want details) combined with my frugality (I buy Scott single-ply TP) have finally proven to be of benefit!
Bonnie, if you need beer text me. I’ll sanitize some cans and put them in an ice chest outside. 😉 All you will have to do is swing by and pick them up. 🙌ðŸ»
Kro-bar update: Went about 11am. Hardly anyone there (but peeps are working during the day, I know). No wait to check out. Decently stocked but out of or almost out of some things like tuna, pasta, organic meats, “better†meats, broths, many frozen vegetables. Fresh produce area wasn’t too bad. I tried to shop straight from my list so I didn’t investigate/notice some other sections. I still managed to overspend (not hoarding or bulk buying). Another bottle of wine somehow jumped into my bag—whoops. I “need†it to make Irish stew… I couldn’t find single cans of Guinness or any stout, but I didn’t ask for help either.
and speaking of wine, a friend was shopping at her Local Kroger and was looking for some wine. The guys were marking down the expensive stuff and she picked up a bunch at 10 cents on the dollar. Keep your eyes open.
Just (figuratively) shit my pants, good thing I have the Scott on hand… I absent-mindedly clicked a link to log into a financial service. Upon inspection of the email it was not a phishing scheme, but I know better than to do such a thing!
And now you should too.
Oh, regardless I changed my password juuuuuuuuuust to be sure. Consider it washing my hands of the old password.
Pro tip: Hit Target at first open (7:00am). I went to Target at Caroline Street. They close and resupply overnight (apparently). Paper aisle had some product brands (coincidentally the ones we buy). Food section light on meat. No hand sanitizer, etc.
Compare that to our local Decatur Publix which was still out of most scarce items.
Funny, my purchases (paper aisle) triggered a free $10 Target gift card.
Related, my two cents (TL/DR):
The Corona deal is a real dilemma, especially in the US where our freedoms include the freedom to do “stupid things” (ignore the CDC, go about your business as usual, not isolating, etc).
1) If we “do as we please” business as usual, still go out, restaurants, etc, etc. then some percentage (albeit low) will get Covet-19, pass it on to others (rapidly), show symptoms (or not) and might require hospitalization.
If that occurs, the healthcare system (hospital staff, beds, ventilators, etc, etc), will be dramatically overwhelmed.
Dramatically overwhelmed.
2) Alternatively, the only viable strategy is to “shelter in place” (isolate literally everybody), stop all but essential contact with others and enforce that by closing restaurants, businesses, services, etc, etc.
After some appropriate period of time (uncertain) those already infected, via prior exposure, will either show symptoms or not. While a significant hardship for the masses, this is the only manageable, practical approach.
My guess is this will last for “weeks” (months?) not days. Prepare accordingly.
I just do not see how businesses can allow employees to return to the office at the end of the month? Ditto restaurants re-open, etc, etc.
This is the new normal.

Regarding Old Forth Distillery (free hand sanitizer):
From the O4D Facebook page:
“Thank you to the community for its overwhelming support!
Because of the large turnout we received, we are currently out of hand sanitizer at the moment.
We are waiting on a shipment of ingredients to arrive Monday, at which time we will resume production.
We will be making a post next week to keep you updated once we have more available.
Thank you for your understanding and we’ll see you next week!
If you would like to donate to help us make more for our community (not necessary at all) we now have a link in our bio available.”

Bonnie, Instacart! 🙂
I’m too thrifty for Instacart. 😠If I get sick or something, then I’ll resort to that. I’ve never even tried Uber Eats, Doordash, etc.!
Bonnie: with good reason! Mark-ups are as much as 91%.

very bummed about STU moving to October……..
Me too. 😢
Ich auch. (I also, or perhaps me too.)

I’m not really afraid, Barb — it would mean that I have to take a shower. 😂
not really – have you seen most people out & about? you still would probably look better.
I assure you I won’t be showering until after I go Kroger.
Perhaps the best way to keep people at a distance is to smell like I do at the end of a camping weekend? 😂
I need a shower after going to Kroger even when there ISN’T a pandemic afoot. :-0

Did you watch the link I put up on FB? The Italians telling us what we could expect in 10 days? Science and math doesn’t lie. Please stay home.

Ay-yi-yi, doesn’t single ply CAUSE dermatological problems? 😉
I will skimp on a lot of things, but toilet paper is not one of them. Always be good to your bum!
I’d gladly shell out for multi-ply if that were the tissue solution to my issue. 🙃

Today I learned that “Lá fhéile Pádraig sona dhuit!†means Happy St. Patrick’s Day in Gaelic. 😉 Also: en español, Feliz dia de San Patricio. Hmmm, now I want a taco.
Things are only boring if we let them be.
Just ate an amazing grilled cheese sandwich and bowl of tomato soup. This will be the basis for my workout later in the afternoon.

‘tis the season for Guinness shortages, even without a pandemic…

what??? discount wine????
I may have to pay attention now
Hilarious, since wine is so…um, what’s the word…perishable… 😉 EVERYTHING MUST GO!

Perhaps I’ll visit on Thursday morning as I have a prescription to pick up this week…
In other news, my pantry is better organized than it has been for years!
