I was early.
It was too warm to think about Christmas.
The weather forecast was calling for spitting rain, I was not dressed for that.
I was hungry.
I wasn’t in the mood to drink.
My two cohorts from last year were not present.
I wasn’t feeling very festive.
I wasn’t sure how my body would handle the walk.
I skipped the Tacky Lights Tour and went home.
I am truly out of touch with Atlanta’s restaurant scene. When I pulled into Toco Hill Shopping Center I was flabbergasted to see that Bagel Palace was no longer there; it apparently closed in 2018. In doing research into the closure of Bagel Palace, I also discovered:
– Smoke Ring BBQ in Castleberry Hill has closed.
– The Greater Good BBQ in East Lake has closed.
– Queen of Cream on Highland has closed.
– Hong Kong Harbour on Cheshire Bridge has closed.
– Front Page News on Moreland is closing at year’s end.
None of which I knew before last night. Huh.
I should also say that I am not a great fan of this version of Toco Hill Shopping Center. In addition to Bagel Palace, gone are Famous Pub (that I knew) and the laundromat I used on occasionally use in a pinch.
Pet Peeve alert: the commonality of people starting sentences with “Soâ€.
You’re welcome.
So we shouldn’t do that then?
🤬🙂
You know I had to. 😀
So, you beat me to it, Stacy… 😉
One should know better than to chum the waters in these here parts… 🙂
Indeed. ðŸ˜
My revenge will occur when you hear someone talking and realize how many of his/her sentences are started with “Soâ€. ðŸ˜
so, something to look forward to I guess.
I think even I knew Bagel Palace was closed, as well as Famous Pub. And speaking of closing, I learned the other day our tractor dealer in Barnesville will be closing at the end of the year. This will make getting any on site service a long trip to somewhere in Alabama or the far side of Marietta. Ugh. I think I’ll be doing all my own work.
I don’t think we got any wind last night, judging by the level of debris. Plenty of rain though. The dogs wanted to go out around 2:30. Fortunately it was between storms.

TJ got home last night to see Allan’s new & improved workroom for him – I think he didn’t know how to react. I think he’s happy about it -but who knows.
They leave for Spain tomorrow – I will be in-law-less for 3 weeks!
Sal came by to watch some more of Survivor – we are so far behind. This season has been so weird, so much less about the struggle & the challenges, way too many social drama issues. I think after 36 seasons I’m finally about over it.
You lasted with Survivor a lot longer than I did.
I still don’t know who won the last Amazing Race since I’ve not watched the season finale, which aired in April?
Add to your list:
– Souper Jenny (Decatur Square)
– Rainbow Grocery (40+ years)
– Bike South (sold for sure, may reopen?)
– Son of a Bear Korean (Oakhurst)
– Java Monkey (will not reopen after fire)
– Big Tex (Decatur)
In other news, Folk Art, Decatur location has opened (breakfast, lunch, dinner), same menu.
FYI, most metered parking on or around the Square is free “after 6:00pm and on Sundays”. The parking kiosks will take your money, but the smartphone APP will not let you pay after 6:00pm. Note: the lot adjacent to Raging Burrito is “always pay”.
Pro tip: North Highland Bakery, Decatur location, has the same menu but is rarely crowded, even on a Sunday morning.
Lastly, *all* Taqueria del Sol locations will be open this coming Monday for dinner (because of the shortened holiday week). Normally, it’s only Cheshire Bridge.

Ham, bringing the knowledge! Thanks.
Did Fred sell Bike South for any particular reason that you know of?
Steve –
Fred had previously sold Bike South to Brian Dunne, his manager and business partner (2015).
I think Fred was just ready to retire.
The recent Bike South closing was due to Dunne moving to Louisville for “family reasons”. Bike South had been in business since like the early 70’s.
Coincidentally Fred/Jane used to live just behind us. I believe they sold that house and bought a condo in the city limits, during a transition. Fred was active in city government (City Commissioner).
We still see them around town occasionally, notably at Pastries A-Go Go.

The previous administration (i.e. my first wife) offered to buy into BS when it was first starting: at least that’s how I remember the story. I don’t recall if Fred just wasn’t interested in partners or what.
“XYZ Corp†Christmas lunch today.
Bad News: I ate turkey.
Good News: I won a gift card of unknown value to Whole Foods.
Good News: I passed on all of the desserts!
not sure why eating Turkey is bad news…… turkey is tasty!
whole foods is so inconvenient for us now, I very rarely shop there.
Today was supposed to be a vegetarian day.
15 minutes into the game Werder Bremen is losing 2-0.
It might be time for me to give up on them.
18 minutes, 3-0
I give up.
I stopped watching.
They lost 5-0 to a team that was supposedly just as bad as they are.
So, why do you do this to yourself? 😉
I have a need, I can’t explain it, I just do.
