Starting my day at Home grown for breakfast.

After breakfast I need to drive to Decatur to settle my income taxes, and then make the trek to work.

Will be spending the night at home, hopefully incorporating cooking, exercise, and learning some Swift.

Got 23 miles on the CX bike and discovered the county has been working on the roads. Sadly, the gravel is very fresh and really hard to ride. Once it gets packed, it will be enjoyable. Felt really good and the numbers look like I’m sorta in shape.. well, for me.

Still looking to ride Sunday?? Anyone? Buehler?

Yesterday’s weather was not too cold and not too hot, so I decided to try an impromptu bicycle ride on the Eastside Beltline Trail:

    – Piedmont Park to Krog Street Tunnel
    – Krog Street to Memorial Drive (kind of, construction blocked me partially)
    – Back to Piedmont Park (some sort of “big festival” is being set-up)
    – Piedmont Park to Ansley Mall
    – Ansley Mall under I-85 to Sweetwater Brewery along the unopened rough trail section <– Paulie you and I have walked that stretch, years ago, pre-Beltline.
    – Back to Piedmont Park

Many stretches North of Ansley Mall were "big chunky gravel" — tough riding for this novice mountain biker. The faster I tried to go, the more it seemed to bog me down. I walked a stretch or two.

The (abandoned railway) tunnels under I-85 are filled with graffiti, fun to explore if you're into that sort of thing. Take a friend, lest we find your body.

In other news, I'm meeting an old friend and former KO associate for lunch today (OK Cafe, natch). It seems the soda pop company may owe me a pension for my 15 years service — who knew? I never heard the word pension the entire time I worked there. Ever.

It's supposed to be a glorious weekend — I hope the pollen holds off (24 yesterday, 169 today).

That part north of Ansley Mall is the next area slotted to get paved. 🙂 That will be nice!

I hadn’t realized anything was going on in the park this weekend. I’ll have to check it out.

I’ve a surprisingly light weekend ahead: no real plans, no walking tours or anything. The hash happy hour is a fish fry so I’m definitely down with that (even though it’s way out in Tucker!). But I’ll have to poke around and see if anything else interesting is going on in Atlanta.

Ham, the Southside Trail, which starts at the intersection of Glenwood & Bill Kennedy and runs over to the Westside (across Boulevard and other streets along the way) is in similar shape, meaning there’s a graffiti filled tunnel and unpaved, but there’s no gravel. There is a patch of sand between Glenwood and Boulevard that can make biking a little tricky but I’ve never had to walk my bike on that part. Thanks for the reconnaissance on the part north of Ansley Mall. I rode that once, but stopped once I reached the No Trespassing signs. Sounds like I’m due to check it out again.

    • When paved that will be a nice way to ride and drink at Sweetwater Brewery.
