Treated myself to an everything bagel with a copious amount of cream cheese from Emerald City Bagels this morning. I stopped en route to the Waschsalon, where I sit typing this washing some fairly nasty hashing clothes along with some no-so-nasty civilian clothes.

Yesterday I loped around Piedmont Park for my first attempt at running in a while. Once again one of my pinky toes started to hurt, curtailing my efforts. Time to switch sneakers?

Okay so I went to look up that bagel place (I do love me a good bagel). But WHAT? $24 for a Bakers Dozen? Dang them are some expensive bagels!

    • Nothing is cheap any longer, just look at the prices of fancy doughnuts. I thought I’d get off cheap bringing them (Sublime Doughnuts) to a party at Barb’s a few years ago and the dozen cost me nearly $30.

To riff off of Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, “Mmm, mmm, mmm, these sure are tasty bagels.” I grimace at the price too but Emerald City earns their money.

Pinky toe pain or just irritation? I have a couple toes that tend to rub, and I just put a little Vaseline between them.

Games meeting- locked and loaded, ready to fire. My partner Burt gave our current SMP rep a tour of places in the park he knew nothing about. We have more institutional knowledge than anyone currently employed there. I have a Games award in the man cave I glanced at the other day- I don’t think it was my first, and it’s dated 1989. We have been at this for a while.

More about the OTP Passport in a little while. Off to shred some cash.

I bought some socks at REI with toes for hiking – brand name Injinji – they have saved Then, I was talking to Sal about running shoes, and the ridiculous cost of them, for me who doesn’t run. The store (West Stride – near the OK Café)) had a some Brooks for $60, so I bought them. Very cushiony. Then – they had a return of some shoes (Hoka) they couldn’t send back, but they were basically brand new. I’m guessing the Buckhead Betty just didn’t like them. They have a donation box for used shoes, but, she brought them home to me! They are super cushiony too. I have 2 new pairs in less than a month. Running & trail shoes have really changed over the years.

    • I wear “athletic socks” when “running” but maybe I need better ones.

      • Steve says:

Back when I was running a lot (and I had a shirt on the other day that reminded me my last marathon was 12 years ago FFS) I would wear 2 pairs of socks- something really thin (silk or wicking) then normal. I’ve also looked into “toe separators” but passed at the $60+ pricetag.

The OTP passport was created by our 2 friends that opened a distillery in Lilburn. They make vodka and gin and have a tasting room open on Fridays and Saturdays. They are both wack-a-doodles, but are apparently having a bit of success at the liquor business.

I had no idea what you guys were talking about regarding the OTP passport, and I just checked Facebook and bwah ha ha! That’s really cute. Paulie, I’ll tag you on their Instagram page if you haven’t seen it.

Running socks make a big difference for me versus athletic socks.

  4. Just got into the office and my left knee started hurting. Too agreesive on the stairwells? Ugh, getting old sucks…

    • Bonnie says:

It’s the muck I tell ya, the muck! Delayed reaction? JK. I have a photo of you pulling your left leg out of the muck Saturday. 🙂 My right knee doesn’t hurt quite as much as it did, but it’s still there. I wish for the thousandth time a day that my house didn’t have stairs…

  5. There is a guy near me at the office playing with a puzzle and it sounds like he’s rattling a set of keys. I need a goddamn cone of silence to concentrate in this office.

Further frustration is my iPhone’s inability to get an internet connection so that I can play white noise in my headphones.

I know, these are “me” issues…

    • Going “Paulie Old School” and streaming Enigma’s “Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!” into my ears…

      • ITP Lurker says:

Reminds me that characters in the novel I’m reading pay a visit to “Paulie’s Poultry Palace”. Is there something you need to tell us about? 😉

In the “It’s Rough Out There” department, I saw a sign on a telephone pole in EAV this morning. Apparently someone fell off of their bike onto their face, and when they got up their bike was gone. Damn. That’s cold. Headline of the sign said “Lost Bike”. I hope they get it back.

Allan has caught another Raccoon – this one will be released near his new fire station.
I wonder how many we will catch before the game gets old.

    • Steve says:

I saw a Youtube video the other day of a guy playing the flute and all the raccoons were coming out of the woods to listen (and eat dinner). There must have been a dozen- it was pretty cute. Made me think of Allan.

  8. Steve says:

    Now wasn’t that exciting?

  9. ITP Lurker says:

Our tax dollars at work: apparently our “president” can reach out to my cell phone with an alert. That’s truly all we need. Here’s hoping he sticks to Twitter.

  10. HamWithCam says:

    This just in…

I got an alert this morning from ATT Wireless informing me I had blown out my monthly data usage limit.

My plan gives me 3GB/month and I consistently us 2GB or less.
    Consistently.

And it’s 6.0GB and climbing, so far this time period.

I called ATT Wireless and asked the agent “What the?!”

According to the agent, there is something in iOS called “Background APP Refresh…” and that’s where “your APPs are sucking down your data, in the background…”

    Uh huh….

I protested that didn’t seem logical since my data usage has been 2GB/month…forever.
Until the agent suggested she change my plan from 3GB/month to…unlimited.
    Same $$.

    Errrr, OK!

Coincidentally, the jump seems to coincide roughly when I upgraded to….wait for it….iOS 12.

Apparently, this is all carriers, not just ATT.

Thanks for the heads up. I just moved yesterday from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone XS. I’ll check my settings, and also look into that unlimited data plan.
