No, not two features of my ideal woman. Wait, yes they are…
Yesterday was a bit of a dud on the job-seeking front. Three calls that were supposed to happen didn’t. One lack of call means that I won’t be headed to Vinings today to meet with a potential employer. And the cherry on top was having to follow up with a recruiter only to hear back that his midtown lead, that sounded promising to me, dried up because they are seeking “cheaper” resources. I do still have a 16:00 phone call for a position that I will probably turn down if it even gets that far. My plan is not going to plan.
Last night was fun however as I went over to Betsy’s and hung out with her, Gary, and Terri. We four consumed wine, ordered in from Surin of Thailand (hello, early 2000s), and watched some Top Chef. To their credit neither Gary nor Terri are Top Chef fans and put up with Betsy and me as we watched.
Today I shall get my taxes finished, because my tax preparer turned my return around in one day. All I have to do now is go over the numbers, sign the documents, and pay her for her service. Then I will pop into LA Fitness for awhile, because the Decatur LA Fitness is so close to my tax preparer’s office. And later I am going to happy hour with my friends Hank and Bill at a Porter Beer Bar in Little 5 Points.
The rest of my weekend is completely unplanned, which means that I should spend it trying to become employed again.
Have a fantastic weekend, even though we do “lose” an hour of sleep on Sunday morning.

– “Make three Lists…”
– Network, network….network.
Pro tip: Avoid recruiters, they do not work for…you. Typically recruiters get paid when the position gets filled. Not when you get hired.
– Research who’s hiring (by whatever means)
– Use your network, identify the hiring manager or peers
– Get your resume to the top of the stack, avoiding HR (and recruiters) if possible
– Resume gets you the interview (still awaiting my copy), interview gets you the job
Now, who do you know that knows somebody at that “place in Vinings”? (Or knows somebody that does…)
Everybody have a great weekend.

And thank you for not saying loose an hour. (that lose/loose) is my biggest pet peeve.
I had no idea how many people type it wrong until Facebook.
I need to do my taxes…. ones of these days soon……..
Sal came over to watch Survivor with me, while Allan went rambling with the Chattahooligans in Alpharetta. I think they rambled until approx. 9pm, and then had dinner. He I bet is tired today.
Hockey Saturday night – but that is the only for sure thing on the schedule for the weekend. Hoping to get a mtn bike ride in, but not sure what the rain did last night & I haven’t paid attention to the forecast. We wanted to do Black Sheep Founders Day Saturday (and it is joint with AH4 & PLH3) to get 3 run counts in 1 trail, but don’t think it will work out with getting done & to the hockey game. its down in Stockbridge.
Gary mentioned Founders Day to me. I may go, though Stockbridge is a fer piece away.
I’m not sure I want the Vinings commute either. As time passes I am less sure that I want to remain in Atlanta.
I am so looking forward to springing forward. Not necessarily the first week, mind you. But after that. 🙂 The longer days, the more light! A vampire, I definitely am not.
Worked the “Elvis Lives” show last night and daaaang them people are hoots! Lots of drunk old white people. FUNNY drunk old white people, even, who tip well to boot. I think the key to me enjoying this gig is going to know which shows to work and which ones not to. Case in point: hell no, I am NOT working the hip-hop show tonight. Also had my first hasher sighting: Fill My Cavity (why am I blanking on her real name?!) I was wondering when I’d start to run into people I know there.
Sounds like you’re fighting the good fight, which means something’s going to come through for you here shortly, Paulie. And you know, never feel bad about taking a job that’s not perfect. I did that once — really needed a job! — and the adage of “it’s easier to find one when you have one” is so very true. Found a better one and left that job after 3 months and it worked out perfectly. It’s times like that you just have to think “hey, it’s not personal, it’s business” and realize you have to look out for yourself (and your ability to eat and not have to live in the car).
I did the same thing with the “don’t want a commute” mentality on the last job search and it worked out well. 🙂 I think you still have a chance.
Karen
THANK YOU. I was totally blanking.
Workout done.
Payment for tax preparation made.
Was going to celebrate with an early lunch, but breakfast isn’t sitting too well. Oh well, saves me money.
I’m going to the Brazilian Bakery with a friend – she posted something about it last night – and I was all —- hey – let’s meet there for lunch, and she said today works!
Not sure if I’m just going to get coxinhas (aka fried chicken & cheese balls) or a sandwich, or what???
No clue where my previous post went.
Good morning from a beautiful Orlando. A fairly easy drive south yesterday arriving here about 10 PM. I have already deposited Debbie at the event and I am killing time before I pick her up about 1230.
Traffic in Orlando is a nightmare considering three quarters of the traffic has no clue where they are going. Even with my chief navigator it was challenging at times.
Fill my cavity nerd name is Karen.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Aaaaaaand my 16:00 phone interview was rescheduled to Monday. Guess I am free to start drinking!
The drinking lamp is lit!
Just catching up on the week’s worth of posts. All of this interest is very promising, Paulie! Don’t worry about calls getting cancelled, people are totally unreliable.
Stacy, can you add me to the FB group of downtown fun people? It sounds, wait for it, fun.
Barb, are you going to use that food tour gift certificate? I was thinking yesterday that we need to schedule that.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Jenka – I was just thinking about getting it scheduled.
the in-laws are moved into the new house, so we should be able to get it on the calendar. I will let you know what date we come up with.
