Paulie’s Day Off

But not from blogging! Actually not really from work either since I will be participating in at least three conference calls today.

After hearing of the cancelation of our trivia outing I decided to eat the El Pollo Norteño dinner that I skipped on Wednesday night. It was a good meal, relatively cheap, and allowed me to wait out some of the traffic that built up last night.

I was home early enough to do all of the items on my newly-created agenda — German homework, reading of A Prayer for Owen Meany, cleaning, and general relaxation. Sadly my warm bed, in which I decided to do my reading, beat me into early submission and I was asleep very early. I doubt that it was even 9:00pm.

Early To Bed, Early To Rise
When that saying was coined I don’t think they meant 2am as “early” for rising, which is when I awoke this morning to the sound of falling rain. Try as I might to get back to sleep I failed for the next two hours. When I awoke again it was nearly 6:30am and too late for me to mount my trainer and get an hour in before the 8:00am conference call on which I sit while I type this.

Not The Best Solution, But A Solution Nonetheless
How do I get my daily exercise in today? Take the day “off” from work! I could have used the Winter Storm Warning issued this morning as an excuse not to go into the office, but I manned up and sent an email notifying my coworkers that I was going to take a paid day off. However, as I mentioned above this won’t really be a day off since I will be on at least three conference calls today.

I Know Who Won The First Amazing Race!
I finished watching the final episode of the first season of “The Amazing Race” yesterday. I was pleased.

Upon seeing the end, which finished mere twenty minutes from my childhood home, I did some research on the contestants. Turns out that two of the original contestants have died in the last fifteen years — Margaretta, the wife in the elderly couple, and almost surprisingly Nancy, the mother of Molly Ringwaldesque Emily. Here’s my source for that information, Wikia, The Amazing Race, Season 1.

Season two for my next few weeks of indoor training rides? Perhaps. Perhaps.

How Tough Are We?
As I see now the high temperature predicted for tomorrow will be 38°F. We wanted colder, “hockey” weather, we’re getting it! I can go either way on tailgating tomorrow. I will follow the ITP-Readership’s decision about what we should do.

Have a great, warm-as-possible, day friends!

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Nice little arctic blast we are having. Like you Paulie I will go with the crowd but I am heavily leaning toward meeting up at Tin Lizzy’s right down the street from the arena for Pre-game preparations.

  2. Stacy says:

Yeah, last night was just crap. Although getting to Cameli’s would have been no issue for four of us, the drive down and back for Aron would not have been pleasant. Better safe than sorry.

Spent my evening loving my new phone and the fact it actually has space now! Downloading all the apps I never had room for before. Anyone have awesome ones to recommend? (Psst! You still need Untappd, Paulie. Especially for how much you like beer!)

Everyone in the office is already talking about leaving early and it’s making me giggle. I AM going to leave early….but then I’ve also been here since 7am, so will still put in a full day.

If you go to Tin Lizzy’s, go to their website first and you can get a $5 coupon. My friend’s husband manages that place.

  3. I figured Aron’s commute to Cameli’s would have been brutal.

Do I correctly assume that you have the same phone number?

I’m considering going out to lunch today to meet up with some coworkers who normally eat out on Fridays. I may stop into the Apple Store and finally get an iPhone 6s today. The 5c has been good to me, but I’m ready to experience all that iOS 9 has to offer and to significantly upgrade my camera experience.

  4. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I had a “off by one” error in my discussion of The Tonight Show’s episode number. Apparently episode 404 was aired on Wednesday night. I watched it this morning and Quest Love said “404 — ATL!”

  5. Steve says:

My lower half is still soaked from walking from my car to the train this morning. The wind whipping across the airport and hitting that parking lot meant the rain was coming in horizontal.

From the forecasts for tomorrow, I don’t think a tailgate is a wise place to be- and only because of the wind predictions. Tin Lizzies sounds like a good option. Perhaps a bit later? 5?

45 minutes on the trainer wearing sweat pants and a jacket, just to get on a good sweat. Then chicken tacos and a beer to get it all back!

Stay warm and safe, my friends. Hopefully, I’ll see some tomorrow.

  6. Stacy says:

Yes, sir! Same number. Apparently my tablet has a number now too but have no idea how anyone could call it. 😀 It’ll be just like my landline… that exists without a phone (since it was cheaper to bundle and have it than not). Ah, technology!

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

My iPad has a “phone number” too, but it’s useless. I’ve trid calling the number and sending it text messages to no avail.

  8. Barb says:

my iPad is wifi only- I decided I really didn’t need it to be that connected.

Wherever we go near the arena will be crowded most likely – so we need to meet earlier as opposed to later.
Just let me know – Steph & Mike are joining up, but my guess is their ETA will be 5:30 at the earliest knowing them.

I’m the only one in the office – we had a power outage -(someone hit a power pole by Dobbins) but it is back on, & as busy as I am doing 2 jobs this week – I need my 3 screens. (I really need to figure out how to set up 2 screens at home – Paulie – can I make you dinner sometime to help me get that set up?)

  9. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I agree with Barb that every place, especially with the frigid weather will be crowded. I’m up for getting somewhere early. Puck drops at 7:05 but I will need some time for chuck-a-puck purchasing. 🙂

I’ve never done a two-screen setup but I am willing to try.

  10. Steve says:

You should just be able to plug in a second monitor and it should be recognized- then there is a setting for whether it shows the exact same thing as the primary or is another additional space.

    ‘taint hard.

Y’all pick a time for tomorrow- I’ll be coming from a high school gathering so y’all might have to catch up to me!

  11. Well, my “day off” lasted until 11am. I have to go into the office after lunch. Poop!

I have a ticket for a “house concert” tonight on Zonolite near Sage Hill Kroger. I hope that it doesn’t get cancelled.

  12. Stacy says:

You’re going INTO the office after noon, Paulie? So odd: most companies are letting out then! (Mine just called 2pm; I know others did at noon)

  13. Barb says:

Steve – we have one of those Lenovo all in one computers – (no desktop tower) and I tried to figure it out one day & I think it needs a certain/special cord or cords. I’m just not that tech savvy. I like others to just set up my stuff so I can just use it.

  14. Barb says:

Mark & June suggested Frontera for tomorrow’s tailgate (I thnk its by Kroger). – let us know what everyone thinks is the best place

  15. bob says:

Frontera works for us! We’ll be there around 4 and get some tables together.

  16. Yep, I am just now in the office — hoping that they will let us leave early. 😉

Frontera is good with me. I will get there around the same time as Barb.

  17. Barb says:

I’m at the office Paulie – you aren’t the only one……..
