Things That Go Scratch In The Night

I might have a whole damn zoo in my attic. Or, I might be going crazy because I swear that I woke up several times to the sounds of things in the attic. I also think that I woke up at 4:45am to the sound of my phone ringing, but I can’t be sure because I was playing music loud enough to drown out any of the other noises.

Boy, is Tamara going to have fun staying at my house… I have the guest bedroom ready but there are so many issues (I used to call the “quirks” but let’s be honest, I’ve been such a shitty homeowner that they bloomed into “issues”) at my house. Anyone generating an over/under for the nights she actually stays at my place? Anyone have odds on whether or not my water heater breaks for good while she is here?

Today’s Personal Project
Construct some contingency plans.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Do two knee-to-chest stretches.

This exercise gives a gentle stretch to the lower back, which may become stiff and painful from sitting at a desk or in a chair. Limber lower back muscles are less likely to become strained from everyday activities that involve bending, twisting, or reaching.

I did some stretching after my workout, I don’t suppose it would hurt to do more later — especially if I do it right.

Settling Up
I am going to try and contact the chiropractor today and settle my score. I’d like to go to his office and talk to him, as well as the person responsible for billing to find out why it took so long to send me a bill. I now understand that they were expecting payment from the settlement, but that was over-and-done in August of last year.

Pay up.
Move on.

Life’s too short for bullshit.

ITP Flickr Pic
While walking around downtown on Sunday morning I took a shot of the fountain in Woodruff Park.
Woodruff Park Fountain
I altered the color slightly, but the water (or at least the paint in the bottom) is almost really that blue.

Returning To LEAF
Since I think that I’ve put my “big” vacation on ice for 2013 I have started focusing on shorter ones (and bracing for the expense of house repair). One, and sometimes two, of my favorite weekends are getaways to LEAF : Lake Eden Arts Festival and spending time with the Raleigh Royalty.

Yesterday I purchased my pass for the Spring LEAF. Want to camp and try something “different”? For nearly $200 ($120 for the entry fee if you buy before February 1, and $60 to park/camp, plus fees of course) you can also attend the festival.

Hoping To Watch Some Top Chef And The Atlanta “The Layover” Tonight
I am currently charging up Ye Olde iPad 3 and if ITP-Reader Betsy is up for a get-together this evening I’ll be taking it over to her place for a little television viewing.

There has been no discussion of food to be eaten and I forgot the wine I want to bring over for consumption at my house (hope the critters don’t drink it!). Oh well, I guess I’ll play it by ear.

Heck, if Betsy is not up for a get-together perhaps I’ll swing by The Shed for some sliders.

Allan thought we might have something in the attic, he patched the small hole he found, and put a trap up there. Haven’t caught anything, so I guess we patched it when whatever made the hole was outside.
Do you have a trap up there? they don’t cost that much at Home Depot or Lowes. But – you need to close up whatever hole first.

NEGOTIATE HARD with that Chiropractor. Even if they expected payment from the settlement – did if they “forgot” to bill it, tell them too bad so sad – maybe, just maybe I’ll split it with you?
Don’t just roll over – that’s what they want.

Bike Maintenance night is tomorrow night – in case everyone didn’t read this late yesterday. Anytime after 5:30.
I’ll have some Mexican chicken for soft tacos for food – bring something related or not if you want.

  2. Stacy says:

I’m Jenka-ing you before Jenka can:

“I am going to try and contact the chiropractor” should really be “I am going to try TO contact the chiropractor.”

*grin* Who knew Jenka could be a verb? (Besides, perhaps, Jenka.)

I have critters in my attic who usually wake me up too, but last night was awakened by another distinctive noise: some groans and moans coming from somewhere in the building. I finally determined that someone was actually having a glorious sex life instead of being brutally murdered so was able to go back to sleep.

  3. Debbie says:

I agree with Barb. At the very least question them thoroughly on the why and when for each delayed charge. My Mom was billed $6,000 for staying in a rehab center with my Dad. She was in an unneeded bed and providing all of his overnight care. She pushed back and they dropped the entire charge.

Still in Florida where it is pretty chilly this morning. I’ll be glad to get back home where I’m not the youngest person in any given restaurant. I can read the menus without my glasses so that’s a plus!

  4. No trap, poison. Getting in/out of my attic is a chore — there is but a small cutout in one of the interior closets which would make it nearly impossible to get a trap of any large size in/out.

Poison should kill rats, and I can deal with the stank (and even once had slow “flies of death”).

Clogging holes is going to be difficult for me because the roofline is so high on the back of the house. I also want to clear away the trees/branches which are giving the critters a pathway to the roof.

  5. Barb says:

    the trap isn’t very big – its I’d guess 8″ x 8″ x maybe 16″ long.

Stacy – glad you weren’t listening to amurder – though, that would make for some great bar stories – huh? Not that the loud sex isn’t a god story.

  6. Steve says:

Whoa… Debbie beat me in posting? WTF, O?

I watched “The Taste” last night. Very interesting concept- a cook is given an hour to concoct whatever dish they like, each of 4 judges is given a single spoonfull (imagine those big Chinses soup spoons) and must decide whether they want that person on their “team”. What the teams will do is yet to be seen. I think I saw it will repeat Friday evening, so if you missed it last night… judges are Anthony Bourdain, Nigella (who does NOT look 53!!), and 2 other guys I’ve never heard of. Could be fun.

Snow in the forecast for Friday!! Yippee!

    -FP

  7. Shit, I forgot to set up a DVR timer for “The Taste.”

Maybe if we get snow on Friday I’ll let the Canadian drive me around. 🙂

  8. Stacy says:

“Not that the loud sex isn’t a god story.”

I know you meant *good* story, Barb, but I rather like loud sex being a god story instead!

  9. Barb says:

no auto correct hints on this website for me – I have to constantly proofread my poor typing & sometimes I miss it. but -that is a good typo if I gotta make one – I do agree.

  10. Ronnie AKA Bill says:

Don’t pay the full charge! If you get “stuck” paying the chiropractor anything you should get a big discount if you give him cash. If he will not discount tell him to take you to court and set up a payment plan (like $2 per month). If you do pay the bill, after you pay cash, get a receipt, then threaten him that you will report the payment to the IRS if he should ever bill you again.
Take no BS and be tough. It’s worked for me.

  11. Barb says:

So, did you talk to the Chiro? Inquiring minds………..

  12. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Just got off the phone with him. No resolution, set up a face-to-face for Friday.
