Vegetarianism Is Losing Out This Month

And I seem to be gaining weight too. Of course I’m also drinking more and exercising less because I can’t seem to get out of bed due to the chilly weather.

I’m still trying to dress “better” but these days I feel as if I am putting lipstick on a (genetically inferior) pig.

Today’s Personal Project
Figure out which car I am going to drive tonight.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Eat one nondairy food that’s high in calcium, such as broccoli, kale, tofu, or almonds.

When most of us think of calcium-rich foods, we think of milk, cheese, yogurt, and the like. Although the calcium in these foods is good for us, too much dairy can be unhealthy because of its high saturated fat content and possible link to some cancers. By trying out a new calcium source that isn’t dairy, you may discover different and delicious ways of getting this important nutrient.

I’m A Two-Car Man
At least for today.

I picked the Jackmobile up from Peach Auto yesterday afternoon. The cost of repair was not as low as I had hoped, but was muuuuuuch cheaper than getting a new (rebuilt) transmission. Included in the charge was also an oil/oil filter change. I’m to drive the car for two weeks, and if all pans out I’m to bring it back to flush the transmission fluid.

Though I’ve yet to return the Mazda rental I was happy to be back in the Jackmobile. Of course, as I walked past it last evening to head home it reminded me of another of its issues — the cow-like moan which it does for awhile after stopping. Perhaps I’ll remember to inquire about that, and the cost of that repair when I bring it in to flush the transmission fluid.

As I said above, I need to figure out if I will return the rental car today or drive it about town tonight and return it tomorrow morning. I wish these were the only sorts of problems I faced these days.

Walking For My Food
Tonight, health willing, I will be participating in the first Dishcrawl (Atlanta). The concept is exactly the same as a bar crawl, except at each restaurant we will have a “course” (I assume these are smaller-size “tastes”), and any alcohol I care to purchase. Sounds like a fun time, that is if my body will allow itself to participate — I’m having all sorts of genetic-related issues these days.

I’m Going To Have To Give In Tonight
I’ll be honest, I’m not so cheap that I don’t want to run my heat, I’m so fucking gun shy that I’m afraid my heat won’t work and I’ll have to have someone come out and repair it.

“But Paulie, why would you think such a thing?”

Because that’s the way things go in my life. < insert Eeyore image here in your mind >

It’s about to get cold, if only for a little while, and I am sick and tired of confining myself to my bedroom as if I were a teenager, or being punished. Sure, my bedroom is happening, not that anyone by I would know this during the past nine years, but it’s high time for me to venture out into the other 2500 (or so) square feet that my house has to offer.

I believe that I will have three, no four, major goals in 2013:

  1. Do whatever it takes to get my body into a condition in which I don’t feel like ostracizing myself from society (sadly this requires more than diet and exercise).
  2. Go out on multiple dates (hopefully with the same woman). See #1 to understand why this hasn’t happened much in the past nine years.
  3. Sell my house.
  4. Give up on the Jackmobile and purchase a new car.

Shouldn’t be too hard, right? :/

It would be my suggestion to go ahead and turn the heat on now, and if your system really is broken for whatever reason, you have time to get it fixed before it’s really needed. That should have been the plan a few weeks ago, but alas….

Debbie and I went to see Skyfall yesterday (while many of you were at work!!). Really really good, including some old school Bond tricks. Worth the outrageous ticket price these days.

I’m off today as I had to work last Friday, and I’m waiting for it to warm up before I head out on my bike for a little ride. Haven’t even thought about collecting all my cold wether riding gear yet.

I was off yesterday as well and I’m still sitting at home today. I woke up so dizzy…it should pass soon but I don’t want to drive while it’s this bad.

When was the last time you had the furnace serviced? I agree with Steve, best do it now…if you wait until it’s really cold you may have a bit of a wait if something is wrong (but I’m sure it’s going to work just fine).

I pull the winter gear out a couple of weeks ago but I really don’t have any cold weather riding gear…maybe Santa will bring me some for Christmas.

I agree with Steve, do it now before it gets real cold and all the HVAC guys are all tied up.

Man I was tired yesterday, I forgot how much going flat out on the bicycle wears you out. I think on Sunday I was in bed by 9 and last night was not much later. Sucks getting old.

Sunday is another race day, come on and check it out. Good opportunity to break out the camera and get some action shots. The race is in Douglasville, you can do a trail run at Sweetwater park than head south to the race.

  4. Barb says:

I turned on the heat sunday night (and it worked!), the chill just got old, I have it set at 65, so it isn’t warm, but it is warmer. I like sleeping in the cold.
I don’t know how old our furnace is, but I don’t think it is all that new.

sorry Bob, Sunday is Falcons game day, & we are going to the game in person. Remember those $10 seats when Uncle Arthur bought the team? they are now $45…….

  5. Steve says:

And December 2nd, the race is at Serenbe… many opportunities.

And Paulie, I don’t know why you think your furnace will explode- you need a serious karma adjustment. Just sayin’

  6. I will most likely crank it up tonight to give it a go. Serviced? Yet another reason that I want to accomplish item #3 next year. Oh, so much in my house (including the owner!) needs servicing and repair.

I have cold-weather cycling gear, but very little cold-weather cycling gumption.

  7. bob says:

The race is Serenbe is sponsored by the faster mustache team. From what I am hearing it is supposed to be a good time.

  8. Stacy says:

Another easy fix for hanging in the living room without heat? Electric blanket. Seriously, I forgot the joy of those things until momma bought me one last year.

Now if only they made electric snuggies.

Or ooh! Battery powered ones. You can just walk around and take the warmth with you!

Hmmm. I think I’m on to something here….

  9. Barb says:

BTW – I went to your favorite place Chuy’s Saturday – not a bad place at all. I really liked both of the green chili sauces, I see what that free nacho bar is so popular.

  10. Martha says:

A blanket would be to awkward, just get some electric hunting socks and vest…that should keep you warm enough and give you the necessary mobility.

If you need a guy, I’ve got a good HVAC guy.
