It’s Friday

And if I didn’t have to work tomorrow I’d be much happier about this. Sunday is supposedly going to be very nice, anyone riding?

Keeping it short today since I have no photo and not much to blog about.

Today’s Personal Project
See yesterday…

Today’s Daily Challenge
Raise your left knee and tap it with your right hand. Switch sides; repeat four times on each side.

This simple exercise utilizes our upper and lower extremities and combines elements of balance and energy. When you bring your left and right sides toward your middle, you engage the left and right sides of the brain. This can help improve your sense of balance, which is key in preventing falls. And raising your knees also raises your heart rate a bit!

Perhaps I Need Suspenders Too?
I opine about my weight far too much in this space. However, yesterday’s happening has once again convinced me that I need to eat less and exercise more.

As I got out of my chair to eat lunch I noticed the front of my belt hanging down. I immediately assumed that I had forgotten to buckle my belt, but instead looked in horror as I realized that my belt had broken instead.

It’s one of those reversible belts, so what came apart was the rotation portion from the rest of the belt, but still, what could make one feel fatter than seeing his or her own belt in two while around one’s waist?

Apostrophes, They’re Important
In two different podcasts this week I saw one of today’s most common gaffs — not using apostrophes where needed (see also: using apostrophes where they shouldn’t be.).
Change Mountain Lions Notification Background” stated one recent “Tekzilla” podcast, while a recent “iPad Today” podcast had the title “Whats New In The App Store?” These are technology podcasts, you’d think they would know how to use spell and grammar checkers.

It’s Sad, But I Almost Pre-Ordered A Kindle
I have an iPad 3 (whose battery life seems less than stellar)
I have an original Kindle Fire (that I never use)
Apple is having their new technology announcement next Wednesday (new iPhone in my future? You betcha!)

And yet I still considered pre-ordering a new Kindle (actually, the Paperwhite).

They say that the first step for recovery is admitting that you have a problem: I have a problem, many in fact. 😉

I plan to ride Sunday, not sure where or what time – Allan is working. I need some miles, SCT double century is in 2 weeks – I’m not ready for that mileage at all. Atlleast we will take our time & take as long as we want.

I probably should ride on SCT to get myself used to the long flat route, but I’m game for whatever if you want to meet up somewhere.

Would you sell the Kindle Fire? how much? not for me, but I had a co-worker talking about wanting one but she doesn’t want to spend too much money.

  2. I might sell it, especially now that I can watch Amazon video on my iPad. I’ll need to figure out how to wipe out all of my content and personal information first. Ask her how much she’d be willing to pay, I will be reasonable but am not willing to sell it ultracheap.

  3. Steve says:

I see they are about to release (or maybe already have) the new Kindle Fire… I might think about one of those. I love my old school Kindle, but one that could browse and whatnot would be cool.

I got signed up to work a race in Brooks tomorrow, so riding Sunday might be possible- I think there is some small persons birthday celebration, but I can’t remember if it’s Saturday or Sunday. Those who might be getting together to ride, please keep me in mind. I could stand to grind out some SCT miles.

A little run last night reminded me I need to run more than once a week if I expect to be able to run longer than 2 miles. Ugh.

  4. The only problem with having a multi-purpose device, for people like me, is that you can be easily distracted. A single-purpose reading device will only allow you to read.

And it’s been sometime since I’ve ridden SCT so (if we don’t start near the start and have to deal with all of the people) I could be convinced to ride it.

  5. Barb says:

sorry it took so long to respond – damn work gets in the way.

okay- ride time to be determined for Sunday- you guys tell me what you want & how far -I don’t care. If we go to Coots Lake it is just under 50 miles. (there is a little gas station there to get some gatorade or whatever)

Start at Carter Rd parking lot – this is where Sarah & I have started many times.

Carter Road Trailhead is at mile marker 8.6 on the Silver Comet Trail. It’s located in Powder Springs, and has direct access to Wildhorse Creek Trail. The shared parking lot is paved, but there’s no restrooms or water.

Or- if you don’t want to use the link –
Find the intersection of East-West Connector/Barrett Pkwy/Powder Springs Road. This is a large 4-way intersection with a Waffle House on the corner
Take Powder Springs Road heading to Powder Springs, and away from Marietta
if you’re coming from the East-West Connector, you’ll take a left on Powder Springs Road
if you’re coming from Barrett Pkwy, take a right on Powder Springs Road
The Carter Rd/Hopkins Rd intersection is the second red light, and 1.6 miles from the East-West Connector/Barrett Pkwy/Powder Springs Road intersection
Take a left on Carter Road, and the trailhead will be a short distance down on the left (you’ll pass through the Silver Comet Trail red light)

anyone else is invited as well

  6. Steve says:

OK, I’m in. I got a pass on the small person birthday party. Let me know a time when you have that figured out.

  7. Barb says:

is 0900 too early (or too late)?
If you think of it or want to, bring a small cooler for a beer after? We can harass people riding by…..

  8. Steve says:

0900 would be perfect- early enough bu not too early.

  9. 0900 at Carter Rd works for me. I’m in. I can do 50ish (I think, or at least I hope).

  10. Barb says:

Michelle (as in Hackett) is planning to join us too – she may not want to ride 50ish… but the good part of this is you can turn around at any time.
