I’m at limited capacity today as I blog from the front of the lavanderia. After perusing my schedule this morning I realized that I really needed to get laundry done prior to going into the office, even it resulted in a later-than-usual arrival. I have already caught a few breaks today, including lighter-than-normal traffic, immediately getting a pump at QT, and having the laundromat owner open twenty minutes before his advertised opening time. We’re currently in the wash cycle.
Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?
(You can blame ITP-Reader Betsy for that in a second.)
After meeting Betsy at the farmers market, with my bag full of lettuce, turnips, squash, and grits, we headed to the village to get a bite to eat. Margaritas (well, beer for me) and burritos were the order of the day at Tomatillos, and as we sat talking about Betsy’s neighbor assuming ownership of a chicken coop from another neighbor who is moving from their house, her phone rang. In an instant I was volunteering to help fly the coop across the road.
Five of us lifted to coop, and with arms burning I recruited another neighbor who was in his front yard at the wrong time. Had former-street-dweller Alex (aka “Hand Tossed”) not slowed down while driving son the street, impeding our progress, we may have gotten the coop in place with one movement. I’m proud to say that we managed to get the coop in place with damaging the structure.
Next up was the fowl. Picture that scene in Rocky where Rocky Balboa trains for his bout against Apollo Creed by chasing a chicken; that’s how I felt yesterday. But I managed to catch and transport my one clicker clucker and we got the five birds safely across the road and into their newly-placed pad.
The rest of the night was spent relaxing, drinking beer, and listening to the goings on along Betsy’s street. [UPDATE: These goings on had nothing to do with the break-ins mentioned in the comments.]
I wonder if the chickens need some kitten companions?
May Long Weekend
I have three things to do. My agenda for this three-day weekend. Okay, maybe four things.
- Bike riding.
- House cleaning.
- Productivity training. The tools are in place, I need to learn how to use them.
- Weight loss. Yes, it’s back on the agenda.
What about you? Have a safe weekend!
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
Just saw on the news that there was a rash of car break-in on Glennwood Place. I hope Betsy was spared.
Paulie, you still planning on riding 48 tomorrow? Want to carpool? It would be nice to pick you up from somewhere other than a hospital for a change. 🙂
This will be a weekend for yard work. Hopefully, we will have things looking nice enough to have folks over July 4th weekend.
I guess I need to get my egg order in……
If we don’t change our minds, we plan to do a little bike ride tonight, with a beer stop (or stops).
Saturday – It is supposed to be quite hot tomorrow (yes, good BRAG training) so the mileage will be in the upper 40 range, not the upper 60 range.
Sunday I’m considering a Silk Sheets ride with Sarah & Ray.
Monday – maybe another bike ride – Allan will need to ride, and probably find a pool party somewhere.
Yeah, I am planning on riding (40-ish) tomorrow. Carpooling would be great, as long as I can be back ITP to shower and get to Horizon Theatre by 8:30pm. 🙂
Tell me what time to be ready and I shall be.
Weather permitting I will be riding somewhere on Monday too. Since I am not BRAG training I will be taking Sunday off.
No problem getting you back (as long as we survive the actual bike ride).
It looks like it is about an hour up there and I want to be RTR at 9:30, so say I’m at your place about 8?
I’m running Sunday, not sure what’s on my plate for Monday, haven’t got my schedule yet. I just hope it isn’t Crossfit, Monday will be Murph and it sucks!
I’ll be outside and ready to go at 8. It’ll be good to catch up.
don’t forget some beverages & a chair for after……..
Paulie, I have two chairs in my car. I’ll even let you use the blue one.
Ugh, it is DEAD here…I don’t see myself being here for a full day.
The heat will definitively be good BRAG training and I have not ridden all week. I will be there ready to ride at 9:30. I hope I don’t pass out 🙂
Sunday will be spent working in the yard, need to seal my deck and pour a cement pad for the deck stairs. Should be fun.
Monday will be chillin and grillin, maybe get the tandem out and scare the crap out of my wife 🙂
hey Bob – maybe we should meet you Monday with our tandem……… that could be interesting…..
Yeah-I was woken up at 5 am by officers. My car was rifled through (thankfully unlocked) and the only thing of value (crappy ipod) was left behind. HA! But yeah, this guy hit about 12 cars around my block.
Happy summer!
Barb (and Bob), a tandem ride together would be a great idea. A tandem USA whole different animal and some pointers from an experienced captain would be a good idea.
I have a vision of Paulie chasing chickens…. very funny.

I always leave my car unlocked at the house (with nothing inside), Jerry is always locking it. When my window gets broken, he’s paying for it.
The guy interviewed today, said he had an iPod stolen (black guy with a Jeep), might be his?? Oh wait, was it your crappy iPod?
Geez, that really sucks. And ironically hours
aftershaveafter our long discussion about crime in the hood.Huh, REI doesn’t open until 10am? Am I the only one surprised by this?
Surprised? Nope. I guess I need to make a run there myself…
And my coupon is at work. Fuck.
You shouldn’t need it, once you give them your membership number they will have it in the system. I’ve never taken a physical coupon into the store.
Shoot, now I’m even more ticked — I’m at work and realized that the coupon was in my car after all! I guess I’ll sneak out and go over there some time this afternoon.
Collectively your auto completers are hurting my brain, just had to get that out there.
I’ll run a Monday ride past Laura, we would have to get somebody to watch Travis though. We may be able to drop him at Grandmas for a bit and maybe hit riverside drive for some practice.
I was waiting on someone to comment about the auto-correct. Betsy glad it wasn’t any more serious.
Huh, only one auto-correct error in the blog “clickers” should have been “cluckers.” All other editing errors were caused by my lack of proofreading.
Now I’ll carefully read everyone’s comments.
Just corrected my 0952 comment. I’ll admit it was typed while I was in a car. 😉
I wish I had auto correct – it doesn’t work for me here at work, so that is why I can’t spell, I just can’t type & sometimes forget to proofread.
so, I just decided to look at the RAGBRAI website, it is such longer mileage most days compared to BRAG.
We are doing 2 days for sure, all depends on if my brothers & sister will be around too – the Thursday is 85 miles, but then a short day for friday of only 42 miles. Most days are at least 70. And – with all the beer stops…….. I’m going to have to do some serious training for that 85 mile day.
