I’m Not Here Today

Because of a doctor (orthopedist) appointment this afternoon I’ve decided to “take the day off from work” (read “work from home while taking a sick day” because it’s the only hope I’ll have of hitting my schedule). Come May/June I am running away, some place where work has no influence.

Yesterday’s Daily Challenge
Reach out to someone you have looked up to in the past and say thank you.

Connecting with someone who inspired you in the past can energize your thinking, because it takes you out of the moment and helps you remember that time in your life. This may help you project to a future time and inspire you to make changes or work toward goals.

Hmmm, I need to do this today.

Back At It Again
In addition to working my ass off, my back has become a huge source of physical pain as well as stress. I won’t go into gory details, but suffice to say that the issue with my back is unsightly as well as being in one of the few spots on my body that I can’t easily reach. I’m going to have to see a doctor about this, and it’s going to have to be sooner than I had initially planned.

Stress from work and pain from body has cause my sleeping to be abysmal. I’ve been sleeping when I should be awake, awake when I should be sleeping, and never really feeling refreshed.

It was a perfect storm of overwork, back pain, and to a minor extent allergies that cause me to decide to skip yesterday’s Wheelhopper hash. I was bummed to skip it given that the start was riding distance from the ITP Estate, it was hared by ITP-Reader Bob, and the weather was perfect.

As Seen On TV
By now this is ancient “news” because the episode of The Office that I watched yesterday originally aired in January. Regardless, while watching scenes of the cast in a Tallahassee hotel bar I recognized a familiar label on some of the beer bottles. Though there was never a close-up, clear shot of the labels I’ve consumed enough Sweetwater beer to recognize the label from afar. When one of the characters walked past the bar’s taps my hypothesis was confirmed when I saw one of Sweetwater’s distinctive fish tap handle.

Our little brewery has grown up. Pretty cool.

Nothing today. Boy, it sure has been a long time… 🙁

I’m Treating Myself Today
Because I’ve been feeling lousy and because I’m not in the Perimeter Mall area I am going to treat myself to lunch somewhere today. My first thought is Fox Bros BBQ, though I might try to find a place at which I’ve been meaning to eat.

RealiTV Update: The Amazing Race — Wait, What Happened?
I watched The Amazing Race last night, and by “watched” I mean it was on the TV as I sat there and struggled with my code. Thus, I can barely recall what happened never mind writing a summary of it all. I do remember who got ousted last night and it surprised me a bit.

I also recorded the return of Mad Men to AMC, but I don’t know when I’ll get around to watching it. I hope there was a sufficient recap to catch me up due to their eighteen-month hiatus. Even though I get AMC as part of my Dish Network channel lineup I have ensured not missing an episode by also subscribing to the show in iTunes. Yeah, I could pirate it, but it’s only money…

it was a gorgeous weekend for bike riding, we did 40 hilly miles in Roswell on Saturday, Allan decided I wanted to do hills. I really wasn’t that sure, but I made it thru, and am glad I did. I might actually be up for the 68 at Wheels oO Fire on 4/14, not sure about that yet, but if we can get some rides in after work, as well as the next couple weekends, I might just try for the longer mileage.

Sunday’s Wheelhopper was okay, it was lacking in flour in a few spots, thank God for Canucklehead to “take care” of his wife, the stick arrows & dug into the dirt arrows helped us to not still be out there.
We finally got to a spot by the old prison farm that we decided the roads would be a much better option, so we made our own trail, got back to the Value Village before the end, and decided to take cars to the end.

Amazing Race was intersting enough – really, an oil bath???? yuck.

A lovely weekend.. Friday we were in the early showing of “Hunger Games”. Except for some seriously tight and jumpy camera work which gave us both a headache, we really enjoyed it. Well cast and true to the book- we did decide that if you haven’t read the book you’re liable to miss a lot.

Saturday, I started refilling the pool and managed a little bike ride. I twisted my neck at some point and it’s still sore. Hell getting old..

SHOULD have gone to WH yesterday (sorry, Bob) but after a late breakfast and Lowes run, wanted to hang out and do chores since I’m gone next weekend. The wind was still up, so I bailed on even riding by myself- I hate riding in the wind. Apparently, there was a bit of “hike-a-bike” on trail??

  3. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention another reason I didn’t make it to Wheelhopper was the number of mimosas I consumed while working on ITP-Reader Betsy’s laptop. It seems as if one of the internal speakers has gone kaput, because after all attempts to update software, including drivers, I plugged in a pair of external speakers into the headphone jack and sound came out of both channels again.

    Okay, back to writing code…

  4. Barb says:

It was a little windy yesterday, and riding alone in the wind really sucks, I do understand that.
yes- there was some hike a bike on the sections we did, but a lot of that was trying to find the trail. Not sure on the 2nd half of the trail.

Also, Slippery managed to get her chain stuck between the rear cassette & the spokes, I couldn’t get it out, so we walked up to where the other girls were waiting for us, and it took 5 of us, but we got it out. I really thought we were going to have to find a sag truck.

  5. Barb says:

oh yeah Paulie – I did hear that you were too “drunk” to come to Wheelhopper………

  6. Steve says:

So Betsy made it and Paulie didn’t??

  7. Martha says:

Steve, I rode Sunday, the wind was rough. We were on the Silver Comet, so when we got to open spaces or at the top of bridges, I had to hold on tight. My riding companion had a 100lb advantage and was having slightly less issues. I don’t think I’ve ever been so tired after a ride. Each week I’m going further out than the week before, I’m considering a duathlon in June, that is if I ever run again.

I didn’t make to WH for the ride but Nibbles and I managed to make it to the end to say hello and get rid of a lot of canna lilies.

  8. Steve says:

When I rode Saturday, there was only one small stretch I could even consider I had a tailwind… that just doesn’t seem fair.

  9. Barb says:

    no, Betsy was not there.

  10. bob says:

Wheelhopper was good, nobody got lost and the pack all arrived within about 20 minutes of each other.
If you rode long trail there was some hike a bike up the massive power line hill to the YBF squared. All the long trial riders hit the YBF which made me happy 🙂

Paulie you should stretch your day off of work to 2 days and join us for the ride to the capitol tomorrow, there well be burgers and beers consumed post ride.

  11. Had things with work and body been different I could have easily ridden down to do the Wheelhopper. I had plenty of mimosas but not nearly enough alcohol to keep me off a bike.

I wish that I could Bob. I think that I will be “in the office” every day between today and the day I deliver my code.

  12. Terri (SW) says:

I stole Betsy on Sunday and took her to a “never-before-seen-or-been-to-undisclosed-location for patio cocktails/ celebration of the end of research paper season.

    Three guesses.
