I don’t know why, but I managed to turn off my alarm clock and go back to sleep this morning. I guess I needed the rest, though the ailments which have plagued me recently (and currently) are not remedied through rest. Oh well.
Working Hard, Drinking Easy
After work last night I joined a handful of coworkers for beer and dinner at Taco Mac (Prado). With a belly full of baked chicken wings and one large beer I then headed downstairs to The Fred Bar for a couple more beers before calling it quits. I arrived home some time after 10:00pm and attempted to start reading the Steve Jobs biography. Reading only made me more tired than I was when I arrived home and before I knew it I was sound asleep. I am a wild and crazy guy!
Speaking of Taco Mac and my beer consumption, last week my “Official Taco Mac windbreaker” arrived in the mail. I’ll now be able to wear this proud as a PhD recipient as long as I don’t calculate the amount of money I spent getting to the PhD level.
On Set
With my late start this morning my drive to work was a little more crowded than I desire. However, I was amused to drive through Little Five Points, which this morning was a movie set in preparation. If you ever see a movie in which the actors are outside a record shop called “Mobius Records” then what you are really looking at is the current location of Criminal Records.
I love that, thanks to generous tax breaks, Atlanta has become a hub for movie filming. There have been numerous times that I’ve driven by/through a movie set, though I never actually see any of the star actors of said movies. I guess I don’t hang out late enough, or in the popular bars and restaurants that actors and actresses frequent.
Slimming Down
Oh no, not my weight, my email. Over the years I’ve provided my email addresses through purchases, donations, newsletter subscriptions, you name it. Recently I realized that, much like snail mail, my inbox was being littered with emails that I deleted without ever reading. So last week I decided to take action.
As of last week if I receive an email with an “unsubscribe” link from a company/organization from which I do not wish to receive emails then I will attempt to unsubscribe. So far my success rate has been good, though there are companies who send out daily emails with no unsubscribe link or seem to ignore requests to be taken off of their email list. Oh well, either way I am reducing the number of unwanted emails which hit my inbox, which in theory gives me more time to do the things I really need to be doing.

As I will be at Jorge’s tonight for a (lately very rare) visit, I drove in. My normal parking lot behind the late, not so great Jocks and Jills was decorated with “Emergency No Parking” signs in the normal pattern of movie production trucks. Perhaps when they are done in L5P, their next stop will be Midtown. Stacy, stardom is a few short blocks walk from your house.
How many beers does it take to make a PhD? I think some painful math might be in order.
As I worked Sunday, and Friday is my normal “other Friday off” day, Debbie and I were thinking about a little N.GA drive. Anyone got any ideas for a “don’t miss” spot with the fall colors on full?

I know that Ben Stiller is in town making a movie and has been seen around town. I’m not sure if the set I saw this morning is associated with that movie.
The PhD level is achieved at 325 different beers (keeping in mind that the rules of the game stipulate that a Sweetwater 420 in a bottle is a different beer than a Sweetwater 420 on draught). What really scares me is that I achieved the Bachelor level (125 beers) on November 12th, 2010. Gee, I wonder why I can’t lose weight?
And for those of you who are playing the “The Amazing Race Game” your purchase should be:
“Bohemian Rhapsody” as performed by the band Cud. It’s $0.99 of blowing your mind. 🙂

Yes, it’s most exciting! Though I must say: thank the gods I have off-street parking. When I do now and again park on the street, I always come out to find my car littered with “Want to be a Movie Extra?” flyers. Um, nope. I’m okay with just watching the movies, not being in them.
They’ve been building something up in the park – I think a skateboard ramp or something? – for this Ben Stiller movie, so I bet they are moving my way. As my plans already include a park photo stroll this Saturday, I’ll have to see if I can capture any celebs! I, too, like all the filming going on in Georgia. There’s something wicked cool about seeing your own city in a film.
Steve, I’m assuming you’ve been to the Tallulah Gorge/Falls before – it’s gorgeous in fall. A friend and I went up last year and got some beautiful photos around this time.
Paulie – game on! I will purchase and prove as soon as I get home. This BETTER be a nice one, mister…. (I really dislike this song!) 🙂
Thanks Stacy. We have been through there on a quick drive-by, but could certainly go back.
TdeGA went through an area above Rome that was just stunning.. not far from Cave Springs. I was thinking about driving up that way and need to find good di-erections.
And I’m glad you reminded me of that skateboard track… need to go check that out and see how it’s coming along.
I didn’t know of your distaste for “Bohemian Rhapsody.” If you’d like a free alternative go to http://trampledbyturtles.com/ and download their cover of the Pixies’ “Where is My Mind?”
🙂
The lunchtime report on 2 sets- well known skateboard ramp being disassembled in Piedmont. There were banners from the X games, so I’m guessing some subpolt to that.
And just so happens they are going to shoot part of a new employee orientation video in front of the bank this afternoon. Now it might have gone unnoticed, except for the full size camera boom they will be using. Think our regular lunch hour protester (todays sign reads “No more Federal than Fed Ex”) noticed? Think he called in reinforcements? Maybe he was calling his mother when I saw him on the phone, but I doubt it. Stay tuned…
