Yesterday REM announced their breakup. Some might wonder if this might not have happened years ago, but yesterday there was an official announcement.
At Least One Of Us Showed Up In Court
I spent yesterday morning in Dekalb County Recorders Court (and in order to do so I had to pay $3 to park, what the fuck is up with that?). I was there to be a witness in my case. I sat for two hours watching people contest, or plead guilty to, whatever citation brought them into the court. Finally I was asked to approach the judge, which I did. I stated my name and the name of the driver — who was not in the room. Huh? Was the driver not subpoenaed too? Anyway, once it was determined that the driver wasn’t present I was allowed to leave. One morning and $3 wasted.
The Call Of The Fred
When I arrived at work I caught a ration of shit for being “dressed up.” “You can’t let your attire go to waste, you need to go to The Fred tonight.” What a brilliant idea! There was a suggestion that I have a cigar while sitting there, but the place is non-smoking (yea!), but what sealed the deal was when I saw a tweet from The Fred Bar stating that they were now serving Cigar City Brewing’s Jai Alai IPA. Kismet! So last night a handful of us headed to The Fred after work for a couple of beers and dinner.
In other Taco Mac news, I am now a mere six-pack of beers away from reaching Brewniversity PhD level!
I’ve Started Working For The Weekend
I am once again headed to Lake Hartwell for the annual Black Sheep Hash campout. And I am once again making Emeril Lagasse’s Andouille Cheese Grits with Crawfish (I use shrimp) Sauce. In order to do so I have to make the grits cakes ahead of time and refrigerate them.
Last night I made a double-batch of vegetarian grits cakes (sans andouille of course). Tonight I’ll be making a double-batch with andouille sausage. Final preparation of the cake (ie breading and frying) and the sauce will be done onsite.

so, as I read you were told you had to go to The Fred – I was thinking, you went all the way to Peachtree City last night for a concert? There is a small ampitheatre down there called The Fred.
We will NOT be going to Lake Hartwell campout this weekend – just not in the mood to deal with camping this weekend. So, we are thinking a decent bike ride on Saturday, not sure mtn or road, if anyone has any suggestions>
And then……. wait for it……… Six Flags on Sunday! Slippery was telling us about the roller coasters at George’s last week (and gave me a free pass she had gotten), so we just might have to go. It has been at least 10 to maybe 15 years since I’ve been there, and probably the same for Allan.
Huh, never heard of The Fred in Peachtree City.
Bummer about Lake Hartwell, but I completely understand. Weather permitting (which it appears it will be permitting rather nicely) I’ll be riding at least once up there.
ALSO, I am trying to convince some co-workers to ride the “Labor Day” Silk Sheets ride ($15) instead of the Breast Cancer ride ($40 + $125 in donations) on October 1st. Any else doing Silk Sheets on October 1st?
It’s been at least a decade for me since I’ve been to Six Flags. While I love rollercoasters I loathe the crowds/lines and cost to get into Six Flags.
The Fred is similar to Chastain, just much smaller…….. I’ve never been to a show there either, and, it isn’t like they would have any sort of the bands you would like (I’m guessing) 😉
Michelle & I were talking about doing the Oct. 1st ride. I really wanted to do the Tour De Pink, but hadn’t signed up, hadn’t raised any money, and if I do it I want the jersey, which is $500 plus in donations.
Oh, I’m sure after going to Six Flags, I will remember why I hadn’t been in forever 😉 I just need to find one discounted ticket, since we have the 1 free pass, so I can’t bitch too m uch about the cost this way.
Barb, I think that’s awesome! I love me some roller coasters. Even having to put up with crowds and stuff for one day, I’m sure it’ll be a blast! And then you can wait another 10 years or so…. 🙂
The Fred is a nice venue- sadly their choice of performers tends toward the “oldies”, but JEFDSDR would be happy to provide lodging in case anyone was so inclined to go to a concert there.
I can do “straight up” roller coasters, but anything that goes inverted is not my friend. I cannot tell you when last I went to 6Flags.. 30 years? At least 25…
Once again I had adventures in horsemanship last night. With the help of a horsefly and recalcitrant horse, I again unceremoniously exited the pony. Unlike Katherine (Saddle Sores) recent ejection for her horse, it did not require a trip to Grady. I believe I will be having a “Come to Jesus” meeting later today with my pony that involves a 2×4.

Yeah, should be a beautiful weekend. I’ll be digging holes for the foundation of my deck.
At least I’m going to go get lost in the woods on the motorcycle on Sunday. I’ll be up in Suches too so I’ll cheer on (or terrorize) the six gap riders.
No camping for me this weekend, even if I wanted to, I have to work all day Saturday (WFT??). I’m trying to take tomorrow of but I already have a call scheduled and we are letting someone go tomorrow…so I’m not really sure how it’s going to work out.
So what is the next step, in regard to the accident? Will you have to go back?
Crowds, standing in line and screaming kids..have fun Barb!
Oldies music? You mean like REM? 😉
I really do have to figure out why this blogging software strips out plus signs from comments. It’s weird.
I’m not 100% sure what’s next. I guess there is a possibility of a reschedule but no one can tell me why the driver was supposed to be there in the first place (contesting ticket? lapsed driver’s license or registration?).
This year, the Fred presented Kool and the Gang, CCR, 10,000 Maniacs as well as a few others..
Maybe REM will be on their reunion tour and will show up.
“The” CCR? I would have gone to see John Fogerty perform.
And I saw 10,000 Maniacs at Spring Break in Daytona in 1985/1986 which was REM’s biggest period so my joke was not that far off from reality.
Yeah, what constitutes as “oldies” can be quite disturbing sometimes. Heard Bon Jovi on the oldies station the other day. 😮
but Jon Bon Jovi still looks damn good……. even if he is an oldie!
I wonder if John Fogerty would actually tour with CCR?
