Happy Bastille Day

The best thing about Tour de France coverage having so many commercial breaks is that you can show up nearly an hour after the day’s start and catch up to live action by fast-forwarding the DVR through the commercial breaks. You do have a Dish Network DVR, don’t you? (okay, you can have any sort of DVR, but you should get one)

Speaking of the Tour (as I have been for over a week now) I’m trying to figure out how I will watch Saturday’s stage. I don’t get Versus at home, my office building is cutting power on Saturday so I won’t be able to watch my DVR over the internet, I suppose that I could take my settop-box home, but I’m not sure my satellite dish can “see” the satellite on which Versus is broadcast, The Marlay House isn’t scheduling to open until 10:30am which seems a bit late for such an enormous mountain stage, and I’ve still not found a decent online source.

Look, It Was Better Than Road Rage
I left work some time near 6:00pm. I made it across I-285 and saw traffic backed up to my right, so I turned to the left. I have never seen traffic backed up so far in this direction. For about five minutes traffic crawled before I could get to a point where I could make a u-turn. “Fuck! This! I’m going to Taco Mac.” I thought to myself. I didn’t expect to have only one beer and some food before joining my boss next door at Outback.

And that’s how I spent Wednesday night.

Related: My Taco Mac Brewniversity (neé Passport) list now contains 275 beers! The next time I go to Taco Mac I should have a $30 credit on my account. And, I’m “only” fifty beers from acquiring my Ph D!

Adding To My Bucket List
Well, not really. I am really just playing with words.

With the purchase of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking (which I am actually reading) I realized that I needed a few new food-grade containers in which to store dough. Yesterday I received Cambro Round Food Storage Container Sets which should do the job nicely. The “Plan” is to make a batch of dough on Saturday and start doing some baking this weekend and next week. The “Secondary Plan” is to take photos along the way to improve my photography.

I’m On Google+
I signed up for a Google+ account.
Have you?
What is its purpose?
Why should we be using Google+?

I am overwhelmed by the number of social sites I’m supposed to be using.

Feeling Way Behind
My “Needs Action” folder is over-flowing. I need to fill out a survey about my medical payments and consult with my lawyer before returning it. Oh, my birthday is next week and I still need to renew the Jackmobile’s tag. So much stuff has piled up on those days when I get home with only enough time to fall asleep. I’ll be spending the night at home (hopefully traffic won’t be as fucked as it’s been this week so I can get home at a decent time), doing all of those tasks which need to be done.

You can watch it at my place on Saturday…I know, just hear me out. Jerry will be out of town, I’ll most likely be running and then heading to the gym at 10 (which you’re welcome to join me), we hung the big screen last week and Jerry just got HD hooked up yesterday…. (which according to Jerry looks fantastic) You’ll have the place to yourself, with the exception of Bode, Nibbles and Logan. The offer is there and don’t feel weird about it.

Someone sent me a google invite, I have yet to accept it. I doubt I will anytime soon.

More recycling news, I was in Target yesterday (Greatland, on N. Druid Hill) they also have bins near the front door. I remember seeing one for plastic bags and one for cell phone/mp3 player, there were two more but I’ve forgot what they were for…there is getting to be no excuse for having this crap littering the house.

  2. Martha says:

Oh and you could do your laundry πŸ˜‰

  3. Hahaha. Thanks for the offer, Martha. I will keep it under consideration (the tv watching, not the running). πŸ™‚ For the foreseeable future my “running” will only be a solo effort.

Cool info about the recycling. As much as I try to use “reusable” shopping bags I still manage to accumulate plastic “disposable” shopping bags and since finding out that the CoA recycling program doesn’t want them they seem to be multiplying.

Add another task to my list. In addition to canceling a credit card this week I renewed one that expires next month. In doing so I have forgotten to memorize the extra security digits which meant I couldn’t use it to renew my tag online this morning. Dangen! Time to update my database.

We’ve got the Tour being recorded as well – you are welcome to come on over & watch it Saturday, Allan will be at the firehosue, so you won’t have to work on the deck.
Sunday, well, that is another story…….. but the Tour can be watched on any TV because of the U-Verse (meaning, you can listen as you work on the deck πŸ˜‰

I went out last night & stayed out until almost 11pm – what’s up with that?
It was my friend Jeff Pike’s 50th birthday, and he was singing at Hemmingway’s on the Marietta Square, and got lots of people from his past to come sing with him. It was a lot of fun seeing some old friends that I don’t see very often anymore, and listen to some music.

I need someone to explain why I need Google before I decide to sign up.

  5. bob says:

DVR is the way to go when watching the tour. The only problem is avoiding spoilers throughout the day πŸ™‚

Barb, you only need to go to Google plus if all of your Facebook friends go to it. It’s just another Facebook and Google’s way of trying to make another buck. I think I’ll stick with what I have.

    http://socialmediamarketinginstitute.com/blog/do-you-need-to-be-on-google-plus/

  6. Bob, that’s why I’ve tried to be good and not spoil anything. I will say that I tend to pause the Black Card Visa card commercial more than I skip through it however. πŸ™‚

  7. Barb says:

I’ll stay with FB for now……… I can’t keep up with it as it is……..

and – I really don’t care about the spoilers during the day for the Tour – I just like to see the exciting parts.
Now I’m going to have to watch for a Black Card Visa commercial, I do likethe Bobke Road ID commercials too.

  8. I like the Road ID commercials too. I don’t believe that you’ll appreciate the Black Card Visa commercial as much as I do. πŸ˜‰ Though many might be confused because the woman doesn’t fall immediately into the “Paulie’s Type” category.

Also, I keep singing whatever song is in the commercial with the dog and his bone.

  9. Stacy Fox says:

Huh! Well, it looks like I’ll be bringing MY laundry and MY body over to Laura’s on Saturday…what a sweet set-up! (hahaha kidding of course).

Paulie, you know you can renew your tag online, right?

I’m feeling much the same way about Google+. I’ve signed up for it, but I’m not really seeing the reason to leave all my friends and family and whatnot already over on Facebook.

Did you realize that if someone clicks on a link in your blog, it doesn’t pop up in another window; it changes from here? I just did that looking at bob’s link above and thought I had lost everything I had already typed (not that it was a work of art or anything). Luckily the “back” button brought it all back…but I wonder if that’s something you can set up to “open link in new window” as opposed to just redirecting the page you’re already on.

  10. I renewed my tag online this morning, that’s why I was ticked that I forgot to memorize my new credit card’s security code. I keep forgetting that you no longer have to prove that you’ve passed emissions.

I’m not sure that I can do much about links in comments. In the blog itself I add a condition to the link which tells the browser to open the link in a new tab/window. I always “right click” on people’s links so that I can guarantee that the link opens in a new tab/window.

  11. Stacy Fox says:

Oh it’s not that much of a pain. I was just curious. πŸ™‚

  12. Barb says:

sSo, I go to set up a delivery of (Steve & Debbie don’t read this) some of that composite (fake wood) decking @ Lowes – and if I open a credit card account I can get 5% off plus free delivery. I really dod’t need a Lowes credit card, but damn that stuff is expensive, so I ended up doing it. And – they never even asked me to actually see any ID. I thought credit was suposed to be harder to get ethse days. So, I think I could have just gotten a SSN & mother’s maiden name of someone with decent credit, and I could have gotten this all for “free”. I’d never do that of course, but that was way too simple.

and – just a side note to Debbie – everything under the deck is real wood……. not that that will make you feel better πŸ˜‰

  13. Vic says:

Did you apply to Google or did you actually get an invite? I want one!

  14. Vic says:

That should have said Google …

  15. Vic says:

What the??? The ” ” is not showing up! (That’s a plus sign if this one doesn’t show.)

  16. Vic says:

    ‘ ‘

    I give up…

  17. Barb says:

hey Vic – I thought I just forgot to put the plus sign it – but now I feel better.

  18. Hahahaha. I don’t understand why, but the plus sign (+) gets eaten by the comment system. I edited Stacy’s comment and added the plus, but I didn’t get a chance to do the rest.

I got and invite. Vic, I will see if I can send you and invite when I log into my Google+ account later.

btw – the plus sign shows up in my comment because I edited the comment after submitting it.

  19. And apparently it’s not a new issue…

Using the latest stable wordpress, I’ve just discovered that the symbol “+” is being removed from my comments. This is most annoying, as it is interfering with the implementation of a mimetex plugin for comments. Any ideas?

  20. Vic says:

    Thanks for the Invite Paulie!
