I’m Still Dreaming

I’ve chosen today’s title to deliberately fool you. Today’s title has a double meaning, one referring to today’s first topic, the other dealing with the photo included today.

While It Hasn’t Turned Into A Nightmare
I’ve been a customer with Dreamhost for many years; they host this blog. Normally Dreamhost is completely on top of the game when it comes to upgrading the WordPress, the blogging software used to generate this blog. Last week WordPress released an upgrade to their platform and I’ve yet to see Dreamhost offer it. I’ve attempted to contact Dreamhost to find out the story, but I have heard nothing back. I’m disappointed by this. I believe WordPress wants people to update, why else would they have released the software?

I Stumped Your Dekalb Farmers Market
After a tough physical therapy session I decided that rather than go to (yet another nasty) Kroger for the few items I needed to prepare last night’s (sadly less-than-stellar) dinner I’d head to Your Dekalb Farmers Market instead since I had a pocket full of cash and knew that YDFM would have everything I desired.

I was wrong. Your Dekalb Farmers Market had no dill. No dill! No goddamn dill! I substituted tarragon instead.

Your Dekalb Farmers Market did have wine, bread, tilapia, lemon, the aforementioned tarragon, zucchini, yellow squash, and gave me the opportunity to follow a beautiful young woman around for a while (Don’t worry, I didn’t actually follow her. I’m not a creep you know).

I need to make more trips back to Your Dekalb Farmers Market, during the week when the crowds are lighter and on the rare occasion when my wallet contains cash, because I can’t stand crowds and Your Dekalb Farmers Market does not accept credit cards.

Heavenly Glow
As you can quickly determine this shot has a good bit of post processing. I wanted to see if I could create a dreamlike quality to this shot.

You might not agree, but I think that I succeeded.

I Think ITP-Betsy Is Too Kind To Complain
Last night’s dinner was an experiment, one that didn’t go horribly wrong, but one that didn’t hit a home run either. Here was the plan:

– pan “fried” (seared?) tilapia covered with a white wine, lemon, dill tarragon sauce
– ribbons of zucchini and yellow squash sauteed until golden brown and almost pasta-like

I should have stuck with my first instinct to use a non-stick pan in order to cook the fish so that they wouldn’t stick. I thought that I could pull off cooking the fish filets in a stainless steel pan without having them stick, but I was wrong about that. Also, I failed to remember that I’d previously opened the white wine I intended to use for the sauce so I had to go with a backup plan which imparted too much flavor to the sauce. Live and learn.

Sorry Betsy. I hope that the hours of attention I paid to Reese and Bella made up for the dinner’s shortcomings.

I’ll try this again but will wait until I perfect it before I thrust it upon anyone else.

I’m suprised YDFM would even open their doors without dill… of all the nerve! And if you’re buying things while following the young woman, you’re not officially stalking- sad, lonely, desperate maybe, but not a stalker!!

Dinner still sounded pretty good to me.

I managed almost 4 miles in last nights inferno… blek.

  2. I know, right!?!? 😉 But you have to admit that it seems odd that YDFM wouldn’t have what is a normally readily-available herb. It’s just my luck that they didn’t have it on the one night that I wanted to buy it.

I’m far from a stalker, just a lonely disfigured man who can’t figure out how to convince the women (who are too young for me) that I’m a worthy partner.

Good on ya for getting out and getting some running in last night. I failed to mention that I went to the orthopedist yesterday who told me that I need to get back on a bike. After running on a treadmill for the past few weeks at the PT I’m considering returning to running as well.

  3. Barb says:

I was supposed to go to the grocery last night, Dean (aka Jacka$$) is bringing some ribs over to smoke on the Ninja Egg tonight. Bob (aka Check My Bag) is bring his brother’s bike that was shipped up here for BRAG over to re-assemble. But, instead of shopping, I met a friend to get some keys to a condo in Savannah, and a few glasses of wine later, I just wasn’t in the mood to go shopping. I guess I will go figure out some sides at lunch break….

  4. Terri (SW) says:

    Just asking…

What’s wrong with women who are not too young for you, say, in their 30s or 40s? Are they not worthy partners for you?

    Curious.

  5. Women in their early 30s can be too young for me (I’m nearly 46 so women younger than 35 are borderline too young). Barring that, most women in their mid-to-late 30s and 40s which I find attractive are usually married, have children, or are not interested in me. I could redefine what I deem to be “attractive” but I’d rather not.

  6. Vic says:

Completely off the subject… Have you ever been to the Starlight Drive-In? What’s the scoop? We’re planning to go tomorrow night. Do we need to get there really early?
    Anyone?
    Bueller?

  7. It’s been a few (too many) years since I’ve been but here’s what I remember. You don’t need to show up too early (movies can’t start before dark) though there will be a line of cars waiting to get in. If possible you’re better off attacking from the south (read take I-285 to Moreland Av) so that you can turn right into the drive-in. Don’t forget to sneak in food and drinks. 😉

  8. Steve says:

Vic, I just got an invite from my niece… apparently tomorrow night is some big todo at the Starlight. Horror flicks, I think. Be prepared…

  9. Vic says:

Thanks Paulie and Steve! So you have to sneak food in? I thought they encouraged grilling. Is that wrong?

  10. Sorry Vic, I was just being cheeky. You can bring food and a grill in, it is encouraged. It there is a special event going on tomorrow the crowds should be large, keep that in mind when planning your departure time.

  11. Vic says:

    Yea!

    Thanks!

  12. Jenka says:

Re: the Starlight, the ideal way is to get there early to secure the best space, then chill out with food and beverages until the movie starts. You don’t want to be squinting in the dark at the grill instead of watching the movie.

I am going to miss the EAV farmer’s market AGAIN because I have a chance to get to the Grant Park pool before it closes. This weather is for swimming!

  13. Martha says:

Really late in posting, but we just got back to the hotel after a very long drive then meeting my nieces for frozen custard.

It was only 80 degrees when we got to Lafayette, yeah!!!! We are going for a run by the river and through campus before taking the girls to the zoo and/or Prophetstown Park for some hiking.

You know YDFM accepts debit cards right?

I know plenty of attractive, single, childless women over 35…

  14. Steve says:

Martha- you’ve been holding out on Paulie all this time??

  15. Nah, Martha is just being smart. I’m a tough sell. 😉
