A Chorecentric Weekend In Store

With the exception of (perhaps) attending this Sunday’s Black Sheep Hash I’m going to confine myself to doing chores within the house. If the predicted rain arrives this should convince me to do so. I’ve been galavanting around a lot the past few weekends, so I need to do this in order to clean up the messes I’ve created.

Look Ma, No Flats!
My ride home went off without a hitch last night. I repeated my route which took me down Clairmont to the I-85 access road, to Briarcliff, to East Atlanta, and then added enough mileage to bring my day’s total at thirty-five miles. The ride was a hot one, but by ride’s end I was proud of my efforts.

Because I waited around at the office before heading out on my ride it was about 9pm by the time I cleaned up and put everything away and all I felt like doing was chill with a movie. So, I fired up the Netflix app (I’m still smarting because I failed to buy NFLX when it was below $50 a share) and decided for some reason that I was going to watch Julie And Julia. While I thought the movie was okay, I don’t think that it was as good as I heard that it was.

I’m giving you another break from rafting photos…
Blue Steel
This is a “macro” shot of one of the Jackmobile’s rims (which I’ve obviously converted to a blueish color) that I took while we were traveling up to the Nantahala last weekend.

Radio? Yeah, I’ve Heard Of It
I downloaded a Mac application called Radioshift with the hopes of recording the Friday afternoon hardcore show called “I Don’t Care” on 88.5 (WRAS). Radioshift provides the capability of listening to radio stations over the internet as well as schedule recordings for programming on the stations.

Sadly none of the 107 stations found when I searched for “Atlanta” using RadioShift’s search were WRAS. Looks like I’m SOL.

Short Hits
Every once in a while I stumble across things that don’t warrant much explanation.

Great work on the monthly mileage.. I’m nowhere near that. I was going to go out after work yesterday, but after a few chores, was just uninspired.

I went out last night looking for the Perseid meteor shower, but sadly, they avoided JEFDSDR.

  2. Thanks. It feels good to get out there, even with my decrepit knees. I’m hoping that the predicted rain still allows me to ride. Last year’s massive September rains combined with my travels put an end to all of the riding I was doing last year.

I’ve also started looking for a source for long-sleeve jerseys and long-legged padded pants. Most places are sold out. I think I’ll try REI to see what they have.

Some of my photog friends went out trying to shoot the Perseid meteor shower. I don’t know how successful they were.

I believe the correct direction to look was NW, which is a bit of a challenge from the farm. There was a little high cloud, but it was mostly clear- I was out just after 10 and looked for about a half hour and saw jack diddly. I hope the photogs had better luck- I’ve always wanted to do some of those cool time-lapse photos of the stars.

And stop planning on the rain and get out on your bike! Easy for me to say with my butt firmly planted in the recliner!

  4. Barb says:

I rode a slowwwwww 14 with a friend on the Alpharetta greenway on the mountain bike last night, but at least she is trying to get out riding, and I was pedaling (which is better than my usual sitting on the couch).

I want to go ride tomorrow, anyone got any plans? (Allan is working…… so I have to make myself go).

Paulie – you can always wear tights over your shorts, I doubt the shops have much in stock yet for cold weather gear. Your best bet is to look online, I got some AWESOME tights from the Terry company, but that won’t help you much.
Allan might be able to order thru the shop – the Bontreger shorts we got are great, I’m sure they have tights. As for long sleeves jerseys, I”m sure there are plenty online.

  5. Barb says:

oh yeah – and I think it is going to be a Tasty China night, haven’t set a time, if anyone wants to come to Marietta. (BYOB, gotta love a restaurant with no liquor license)

  6. Rain really buggers up my commute to work. Other than that I try not to let the rain stop me (though lightning is another story).

Barb, I tried some online shopping last night and it looked as if the places I checked were either out of stock or out of my size in regards to long-sleeved jerseys. I was hoping to buy now to get deals before it gets cold again and everyone starts looking for them. I suppose that I could wear my running tights on top of my biking shorts; I hadn’t considered that.

  7. Steve says:

Tights over shorts is the way I roll… and have for years. And if it’s really cold- 2 pair of tights, or maybe tights over leg warmers… lots of options.

  8. debbie says:

I have lots of bike shorts that need new homes. If anybody knows someone looking for large ladies bike shorts, let me know.

  9. Barb says:

Debbie – I may know someone that could use some shorts. Have them somewhere I can take a look at them next weekend…..

  10. Barb says:

we are thinking 7-7:30 for Tasty China – come to the house first for a beverage if you’d like.

  11. debbie says:

We’ll probably meet you at the restaurant after I run home and let the dogs out. If you’ll bring the wine, we’ll pick up dinner.

  12. Jenka says:

Steve, from what I gathered from Facebook friends who saw the meteor shower, it happened at 4 am. That could be why you had no luck, maybe?

Paulie and Martha, I won a $15 gift certificate to REI in the triathlon event. There’s no way in hell I’m driving all the way up to REI for $15. Do either of you want it?

  13. Since I seem to be shopping at REI quite a bit these days I’ll be happy to take it Jenka. You could leave it in my mailbox (after the mailman has delivered otherwise he/she may think I’ve left them a gift), or by my kitchen door, or whatever works best for you.

I’ll be glad to buy you a beer or two some night in exchange.

  14. Jenka says:

Will do! Probably won’t get to it until this weekend. I’m up for a beer most any evening as long as I have a couple days’ notice. Yay!

  15. Steve says:

I was out the door at 05:30, but there was too much cloud cover to see anything.

  16. I’m in no rush Jenka. We can plan a get together for any available evening.
