I Think I’ve Proven A Point

Sadly that point is “Regardless of the number of days I take off to dedicate to iPhone/iPad development without a clear product to develop, and a deadline to be concerned about, it’s not going to happen.” I did many other things during my respit (mowing the lawn should have happened yesterday too, but did not) so I don’t consider the use of my vacation days to be wasted, but today I do not have the pride and joy that I thought I would as of last week.

  • Things I Did Get Done
    • relaxing with friends
    • one good bike ride
    • some cleaning and organizing
    • did some reading
    • watched a lot of episodes of The Good Life
  • Things I Didn’t Get Done
    • iPhone/iPad development
    • photography ๐Ÿ™
    • get Sharpened Stone‘s website up
    • not all cleaning or organizing done
    • finish the book I wanted to finish reading

Back at the office today…

I Was Nearly Trampled By Turtles Last Night
More specifically I was nearly trampled by their odd-dancing fans.

Last night I joined my friend (and boss) Hank at Smith’s Olde Bar to see the band Trampled By Turtles. Trampled By Turtles is a country/bluegrass five-piece out of the great bluegrass breeding ground of Duluth, Minnesota. Wait. What? What’s even funnier is that without thinking I was wearing my The Hold Steady “Minnesota Twins” t-shirt so it looked as if I were playing up to the band, when in reality I had no clue.

The show last night was really good, though started a bit too late for a Wednesday night. As it turned out the opening band had to cancel because on of its members got hurt after their show up in Asheville. Had somebody mentioned this to the crowd prior to Trampled By Turtles taking the stage sometime after 10:00pm, or if Trampled By Turtles had started their set earlier, things wouldn’t have seem so bad.

The crowd at last night’s show was a good mix of old/young, pretty/not-so-pretty (I dare say I saw three of the prettiest young ladies — my definition of pretty — that I’ve seen in a long time last night). What was even more unusual than the crowd was that it was a dancing crowd, with most of the dancers being men. Well, “dancing” is a bit generous, they were hopping up and down and gyrating as if they were having convulsions. It made for enjoyable people watching at least.

I guess I should have taken more shitty camera phone photos while out riding yesterday. At least I would have something for this space if I had.

What? Another Anniversary?
Yesterday I was listening to another great episode of the Coverville podcast when it dawned on me that it was about this time last year that I became a “Coverville Citizen.” When I searched my email archives I found that as of yesterday it had been exactly a year since I became a Coverville Citizen.

So far June seems to be a month of anniversaries for me.

  1. fwiw – I keep hoping to have better, more extensive blogs in the future. I’m just so GD busy right now (found out last night that the CEO of the company is supposed to drop by the office today) that I can’t seem to make the time.

  2. Barb says:

At least you got some stuff done over the long weekend.

did you get a monsoon last night down there ITP? We got a ton of rain about 5-6:30 last night.

  3. No idea if the rain hit East Atlanta last night. It hadn’t arrived by the time I left for Smith’s Olde Bar and I was in the club until about 11:30pm, long after whatever rain had passed.

  4. Surprised that no one has called me out for failing to include a “Website Of The Day” today. I am completely scattered…

  5. Barb says:

I saw you didn’t have one, but figured you just hadn’t seem anything new that was cool. I think it should be http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com/

always a great way to waste time ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Martha says:

I was still in shock at seeing ‘current mood’ be positive for two days in a row…I’m so pleased! I like happy Paulie!! Then I saw “Breakfast Club”, started thinking about Simple Minds and well…

I think you did a lot with your time off…you are inspiring me to take some time and just do ‘me’ stuff…now if work would just slow down a bit so I could do that.

It did rain in EAV, sometime during yoga…made more noise than actual rain.

  7. I tend to have better days when on, or immediately following, vacation. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. debbie says:

That must mean you are inspired to try new things in June. What’s it going to be this year? ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Not sure yet. Maybe it should be something along the lines of “Ask a woman out on a date.” Sure, that’s not a new concept for me, but it’s been so long it might as well be.

  10. Barb says:

I hope y’all wanted more rain tonight – I went home to get my bike to go meet Sarah, Michelle & who knows who else in Avondale to ride to Stone Mountain tonight. So, you know that means it is going to rain now that I did all that.

  11. Martha says:

Dang, I thought Sarah was doing that last night, I couldn’t go because I needed my yoga…doubt I’ll have time to make it home and back over there.

Today is National Running Day, so I guess I could just go for a run…that should make it rain as well.

  12. Barb says:

so, since it isn’t raining – I’m stuck at work late & there is no way in hell I can get to Avondale by 6pm. I guess I’ll have to drive to Roswell or something and go for a ride.
