You see what happens when I exercise? The blog is late. I hope you are satisfied… 😉

It Was Just Like Riding A Bike
In fact, it was exactly like riding a bike. Well, it was exactly like riding a bike after driving it to a secret location where I could park my car and then ride in to work.

This morning I drove the Jackmobile with the Red Rocket mounted upon its roof before climbing on to the Red Rocket for a morning ride-commute to work. Let me tell you, the extra distance provided by the office move to the Perimeter Mall area is much hillier than I was really ready to tackle this morning. Along the way I rode past a guy who shouted “Free smoothie at Robeks this morning.” and all I could muster was a “Yeah.” I ran in to that guy — his name was Andy and he works at REI — again at Robeks, where I properly thanked him for the reminder.

I’ll have to map out the distance to see how far I rode this morning. Because it’s been so long since I’ve ridden (I didn’t have to “Spring Forward” the clock on my speedometer/odometer, if that gives you any point of reference) that I accidentally shut off the odometer somewhere during the ride.

The best part of the ride: It was a great morning to be on a bicycle.
The next-to-best part of the ride: I received and consumed a free small mango smoothie from Robek’s.
The next-to-worst part of the ride: I forgot my Employee ID at home.
The worst part of the ride: My legs are tired and I have to do it all over again this afternoon.

And so it begins…

Just imagine how much my hands were shaking because they are not used to getting exercise.

Oh Those Blasted Mets!
My beloved NY Mets were in town for two nights. I fully intended to go to last night’s game, the weather was perfect for baseball and I certainly could have used the photography practice, but alas I had too many chores to do before this morning’s ride.

Yesterday marked the six-year anniversary of my decision to play Tuesday night poker at a friend’s house instead of going to the Braves game with my friend Mike. You remember that game, don’t you? It was the game in which Randy Johnson pitched a perfectThe Day Will Keep Getting Stranger
After riding tonight I am planning on making a cameo appearance at George’s for a beverage, and perhaps some chow. I hope to see a few friendly faces that I’ve not seen in some time.

Good job riding (almost all the way) to work today!! The Atlanta Bicycle Coalition is saying this is not just bike to work week, it’s bike everywhere week. If you have a short trip to make, take your bike. I’m shooting for zero 4 wheel miles this week. I even have a meeting at our North Druid Hills facility today and I’m taking the motorcycle.
I too will be making an appearance at George’s tonight, can’t remember the last time I was there. It may have been last year after the Ride of Silence.

  2. Bob, my decision to head to George’s after the Ride of Silence is what convinced me not to make the ride from home. The fact that driving my car somewhere made for a shorter commute didn’t hurt either. 😉

I’m really hoping to make it to RoS tonight. And hopefully, we’ll have a few more folks than last year…

Paulie, from your house, it doesn’t seem out of the question to do a little MARTA/bike commute… easy little warm up ride, take a little MARTA ride and then get off where you like. Running a little late, take it all the way, then ride home in the afternoon.

BTW.. good for you getting out on your bike!!

  4. Thanks.

The distance from home to a Marta station is not much of an issue, not nearly as much as the neighborhood through which I must ride. The commute out of East Atlanta has been made a little harder thanks to the road closure of Hosea Williams (nee Boulevard) near Coan Middle School.

Steve, that’s what I do when I ride to work.

I ride my bike to the Garnett Station, there are some closer but this way I don’t have to change trains at Five Points, take the train to Chamblee, the ride the last few miles to work. That is the scariest part, riding on Chamblee-Tucker Road. Take about an hour total.

I’m not sure I’m going to make it anywhere tonight. I didn’t sleep well, I went to bed early but woke up at 1, between the ‘allergic’ reaction I was having, Bode attacking my feet, Logan licking my face and Nibbles walking on me, getting back to sleep was a problem.

It may be a short day at the office.

  6. Stacy says:

    Good job with the ride!

How was the smoothie? I’m a big fan of smoothies, but I’ve had some nasty ones in the past that I’m a little hesitant of new places.

  7. The smoothie was okay, but not great. I’ve only had one or two from Robeks and they’ve been about the same (and kinda expensive).
