My relationship to this house is probably the closest thing to an abusive relationship that I have ever had. Eleven years into ownership I feel like I’ve been beaten by it often, and yet I’m still unwilling to leave.
While “plumbing” is still the number one issue that I need to address, I am taking small measures to clean up my house’s act.
I’ve contacted a company to come out and clean my gutters, as well as provide a quote to repair the gutters where my neighbor’s tree struck them a few years ago.
Tonight I’ll be meeting with a guy who is to provide me with a quote to pressure wash and stain/seal my deck. My only hope is that there is no wood decay which will need to be replaced.
I’m contemplating replacing the shattered window that the MFers destroyed when they broke in to my home. In doing so I may also replace the other kitchen window on that wall so that there will be symmetry. If I buy energy efficient windows I can write off a portion of their purchase price as a tax credit next year.
This weekend I’ll be giving my abusive lover some love by doing a bunch of yard work, and perhaps even some work up in the attic. Who knows, I may whip my damn house into shape yet.
Trivial Misgivings
After work yesterday a handful of coworkers and I met up at Hudson Grille in Perimeter Mall. With the craptastic traffic I witnessed yesterday I was thankful that we chose a bar that was easy to get to from my office.
Our small group hung out to play Team Trivia. With only seven teams playing I thought that we had a good shot at winning some house cash. However, it was not to be. We were in second place at half time, but by the time the final question was asked we were in a three-way tie for third. Unfortunately we had no idea which of the four multiple-choice answers provided as for the final question was the correct one, so we dropped out of the money.
The question that I couldn’t answer which irked me the most was “What was ‘Satchell’ Page’s real first name?” (see the bottom of this post for the answer) I used to know trivia like this. I used to be able to envision a baseball card and “see” the answer.

Some times my eyes are drawn to (other people’s) misspellings as they are drawn to a car accident.
The first thing I noticed on the menu the other day was “suuny” where “sunny” belonged.
The Kindle For Mac App (Beta) Is Here!
Another nail in the coffin of dead tree books has been hammered in today. Through the magic of the internets I found out that Amazon has released a beta version of there Kindle software which can run on Mac OS X. This is great news for those who want to buy and read Kindle versions of books without having to own either a Kindle or a WIndows PC. This may be bad news for my wallet as I may be investing in a few technical documents now that I can read them digitally.
Rumor of Kindle for Mac application from Amazon has been circulating for at least six months. It may be coincidence that the release of this beta occurred a mere few weeks prior to the iPad’s launch.

Q: What was ‘Satchell’ Page’s real first name?
A: Leroy
Paulie, E-mail is littlewilly@mindspring.com. Cell phone. 770-616-6858. Willy
hey Paulie – I’m going to highjack this for a sec & ask a question.
Do any of you ITP-reader hashers think that moving Wheelhopper’s website to a page on the AH4 website would be a good or a bad idea??
I’m told that it would just redirect. I don’t really understand why Sim & Shane don’t like the idea (besides they created the site, etc.) I’m so confused & it seems to me that the website gets so little traffic right now, that I don’t see how it could be a bad thing to move it.
Cost really isn’t an issue, they said $10 per year compared to free right now.
Any insight from my friends would be helpful.
Willy, I’ll get in touche with you in a few days.
Barb, is Wheelhopper considering moving everything, or just the stats? I can understand wanting a separate identity for Wheelhopper and having the stats aggregated on the AH4 website.
I’ve chatted with Piggy’s Bitch about hosting the Black Sheep stats on the AH4 website. I’ve considered writing and hosting my own stats, but it just seems easier to use what AH4 has set up.
I guess we could just do stats over there, I was thinking move everything, but I guess that would be an option. I just get tired of messing with a website that no one seems to ever look at.
Ugh, I have too much stuff on my House To Do list…some of it the utilitarian, non-sexy stuff, insulating, new furnace, some updating of the plumbing…the immediate needs include cleaning/organizing/updating the laundry room (for Bode) and a new dryer since mine has developed a taste for clothing.
Let me know what you find out about the deck, Jerry needs his cleaned and sealed as well.
Windows aren’t too hard to replace, it’s worth it!
Get the yard work in on Saturday, Sunday looks like a brief return to winter.
The plan is to do the yardwork on Saturday and do the indoor work such as attic detail on Sunday. I need to get into the attic before it gets too warm.
I’ll let you know about the deck. The guy coming tonight is an EAV local who answered my plea for help in The Buzz.
I’ve contacted your gutter cleaning company and they are supposed to come over and clean mine sometime in the next ten days. Yay!
Barb, if they’re not going to the Wheelhopper website how do the know where the trail starts? Are you cross posting to Atlanta?
Surprised that you didn’t mention the passing of Alex Chilton. Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton…:(
As for the website, we’re having a similar issue with Pinelake. We want to keep our website separate…however, I would love to enter the stats into the website directly. As it stands, I take the clipboard, send the list to Davey, Davey puts it into a spreadsheet, Davey give me the run counts, etc. Too many steps…
Oh, I did forget the passing of Alex Chilton, didn’t I. 🙁
I agree that the current process for stat entry / delivery is inefficient. Ideally I’d like to remove myself as the keeper of all Black Sheep hash stats. With the web the person who signs people in should have the capability to update the stats, and the people who want to pull the stats should have that ability as well.
The same sort of inefficiency occurred yesterday when I opened a business banking account. I think I’ll add that to tomorrow’s blog.
Most Wheelhoppers get an email that I send out to know where the start is.
And – maybe people do visit the site, I just know very rarely does anyone post on the forum.
I may talk to Robin about the stats page & then still use the other website.
Oh, who knows……..
We had a business bank account at one point for wheelhopper, the fees were way more than it was worth, so we went back to just having an envelope of cash.
Hehe, that’s funny Barb. I opened my account with Delta Community Credit Union because of their low fees and since I already had a personal account with them.
