November Has Many Memories For Me

Some memories are good. Some memories are bad.

Another Successful “Meatless Monday”
I was able to avoid meat again yesterday. It seems as if it should be a very simple task, but I do enjoy eating meat.

Last night I fought Atlanta rush-“hour” traffic to make it to Batteries Plus so I could purchase a new battery for one of my UPSes (which cost $30, almost the two-thirds of the price as buying a brand-new UPS!)

Batteries Plus is on the “east side” of “Atlanta” which allowed me to head to one of Atlanta’s concentration of Indian restaurants. I wound up at Madras Grill where I had a delicious cauliflower curry dish whose name I cannot recall, and some “bullet” naan. The cauliflower dish was prepared “Northern style” which meant that it wasn’t incredibly spicy, but was tasty enough that I didn’t miss the meat.

While the meal was not exactly cheap ($12.50 before tip), but was so tasty that I can see myself returning to Madras Grill in the future.

The Coincidence Is Nearly Coincidental
Today I realized that I am wearing the t-shirt I earned nearly ten years ago. (Bonus: I still fit into t-shirts that I received ten years ago!)

Ten years (on Thanksgiving) ago I ran my first half-marathon. I was ten years younger (duh!) and twenty pounds lighter than I am today. I finished that half-marathon in fewer than two hours and felt great. I felt so great in fact that I made the mistake of signing up for the 2000 Grandma’s Marathon, during which I injured my IT-band sending my running career into a downward spiral.

Last night I finally carved out some time to do some studio work. I’m not pleased with much of what I produced, but I saved this one to a point that I am willing to show it.
Roberts For Numbering
I have a lot of research and practice in order to get the results I seek.

But more about the subject…

I LOVE old school manufacturing and packaging!!! I found this old number stamp, and a larger version of this one, at a thrift store some time ago. I purchased these specifically for the purpose of photographing them.

Seven Years Of Bad Luck Over?
Last Saturday (thereabouts) marked the seven year anniversary (?) of the last time I had a girlfriend. Where does the time go? Those of you who have known me a long time know of whom I speak.

Even I find it remarkable that this much time has passed since I was able to find someone with whom I share mutual admiration to the point that I could consider her to be a “girlfriend.” I feel like the Cal Ripken Jr. of single living.

Happeh Birthdeh, Eh!
I am not a man of the world, but I do have one great friend who lives north of the American border. I have known her for about fifteen years (which means she’s older than sixteen). She is special to me. If I could only remember her name… 😀

Happy Birthday, (ITP-Reader?) Tamara! I hope that you can dig your way through the Edmontonian snow in order to make it to the bars tonight.

I haven’t had Indian food in forever…Jerry doesn’t like it, which seems strange and its a meal l like to share.

I’m bummed I’m going to miss the race on Thursday. We may do a 10k but the weather looks just awful in Cincy this week.

Everyone have a safe and happy holiday.

  2. Jenka says:

Martha, if it’s any consolation I registered for the T-giving half and am not going to run it! Just no desire, plus the mugging(s) derailed my training so my time would be embarrassingly slow. Definitely NOT going to miss getting up at 5 am and standing around at the race start for an hour.

  3. I’m not running the half this year either. Being beaten by Martha last year was the death of my running career. 🙂 Kidding, of course. As has been well documented, I’ve not been running this year so I see no reason to humiliate and/or injure myself.

  4. bob says:

Paulie, are you coming out to the end of the race to cheer on the hashers?

  5. It is my tradition Bob, so I believe that I will. Is Laura running again this year?

  6. Martha says:

Paulie, you’re not the first man who’s ambitions I have destroyed. 😉 It could be worse, you could be Jerry, getting wooped by your girl on a regular basis.

I’ve been struggling with my running since Chicago. I’ve signed myself up for a few races with the hope fear will motivate me to train.

I start bootcamp next Monday as well. Now if I could just get my eating back under control, probably not the best time of year to try and start.

  7. bob says:

Yes, Laura is running so Travis and I will be at the end.

  8. Barb says:

I’ll be sleeping while all the crazy marathoners & half marathoners are running.
I walked the half once, while training for the 3 Day Walk, and having Head Eunuch pass me running the full marathon was depressing. I know I was with other walkers who weren’t in a hurry, but still……… I haven’t wanted to get up early in the morning for it since.

  9. whiner says:

WLB, sorry to hear you are not running the half. I had planned on coming down( I have 4 days off this week) to support all the runners but work got in the way. So, I’ll be staying in G’boro having holiday meal with the ex-MIL. Good luck to all you runners, I really miss this race and the party afterwards. Wee, today’s pic is my favorite I’ve seen on this blog.

    Miss you folks

  10. Sorry you won’t make it down Whiner. Have a great Thanksgiving and hope to see you soon. Cheers!
