When Day Turns Into Night

It gets a little chilly outside these days.

Of Options I Have A Few
I wish I was speaking of stock options, but I’ll settle for the fact that my personal options are plentiful…

Last night I blew off running at George’s Bar to join a bloggers’ meetup that I’ve been blowing off for well over a year. I met up with Maigh at Bone Garden Cantina which is tucked away in the west-northwest side in an industrial area attempting redevelop itself as a small business/condo area. Given the fact that we were headed to a Mexican restaurant I figured my vegetarian options would be plentiful. I was very wrong. I wound up ordering a $6 cheese quesadilla (have I ever mentioned that I think “quesadilla” translated into English is “ripoff?”) which amounted to little more than a few slices of cheese heated in a 12″ burrito shell, served with small portions of sour cream, lousy guacamole, and pico de gallo. To that I order some refried beans (ok, I know those probably contained lard) and “Mexican” rice, for another $1.75. Overall, my meal was disappointing. And as an added oddity I got sucked into playing team trivia with the bloggers. Not too surprisingly, we won.

Tonight my options are more than plentiful. There’s hockey — the Islanders are in town; but I’m not sure that I’m ready to drink that much tonight. There’s a potential meet up at Brick Store with a dear friend I’ve not seen in a long time. And the only sure thing is that I’ll be dropping by Taco Mac near my office for a beverage or two with coworkers. See? So. Many. Options. No matter how much I bitch and moan about my house, and weight, and whatnot, it does not really suck to be me.

I wish that my life was as placid as the lake was on the morning I took this shot.

Currently it flip-flops between a fast-flowing stream and a whirlpool.

The New Refurbished Macbook Has Arrived!
Apple shipped a new computer to me yesterday and unfortunately I had vacated the office before its arrival. It’s in my greedy little hands now, and when time permits this afternoon I’ll crack open the box and attempt to set it up to make sure that this one’s not experiencing problems. Wish me luck.

A Paulie Product Review: The Nissan Insulated French Press
A little while ago I blogged about breaking the French Press coffee maker that I use at work. I pondered a replacement and settled on an insulated metal canister French Press sold by Nissan. This French Press is really good. On the positive side, it holds 32 ounces (what they call “8 cups”) of coffee and keeps the beverage enjoyably warm for much longer than the glass vessel was ever able to. On the negative side, it mesh screen doesn’t seem to keep the grounds out of my coffee as well as the old French Press did.

Over all I’d suggest buying this French Press, especially if I can modify the screen in some way to guarantee that coffee grounds don’t manage to sneak past it.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…

I forgot to mention that I also bought a french press after you post about needing one. I went with the super small 3-cup (12 oz) ‘unbreakable’ model. Its main use will be for that second cup of coffee at the office and camping (thus the need for unbreakable).

Mine has a second screen over the spout that catches any grounds that slip through the first screen. It seems to work just fine for what I need.

If you need any wood working done, I can recommend Adam (aka Piggy’s Bitch), he came over yesterday and redid the gate and fence by the drive way. Now is it not only Nibbles proof (she could easily fit between the pickets) but a tetanus shot is no longer needed if you happen to bump into the gate.

He has done some pretty nice looking shelves/cabinets also. I might get him to help finish off the ‘laundry room’. I think 2009 is when I finally get the house in order (fingers crossed).

$13.75 for a quesadilla, beans & rice? I don’t think I will be going to that restaurant any time soon……

did you win house cash at trivia that you could spend that same night?

I want to go to a hockey game, can’t go tonight, but let’s try to plan & pick some dates & find one that everyone likes. Maybe if we get 10 people, we can get a group ticket rate.

  3. Whoops, that $7.75 extra was supposed to be $1.75. My bad, the total meal was $7.75.

We won, but since it’s not my normal trivia team I took off without concern for the winnings.

Yeah, let’s get together on that. I meant to post about the hockey game earlier in the week, but since so much has popped up for tonight I am glad I procrastinated — even though it means I probably won’t get to see my Islanders.

Paulie, when you are feeling down about yourself, please remember these words,-

“No matter how much I bitch and moan about my house, and weight, and whatnot, it does not really suck to be me.”

And I’m sure Debbie and I are up for hockey!! If not on a school night.

  5. I know it’s crazy talk, but the Thrashers play a Sunday afternoon game on the Sunday following Thanksgiving. I have no idea if that’s a Black Sheep Sunday, but I could consider skipping BS.

  6. Steve says:

And that would be a Sunday Runners Sunday, correct? I see a plan forming!!!

  7. Barb says:

November 30th? Allan isn’t working, so we could make that work.
But- just checking, what time does the game start, and more importantly, can Gorin’s sell beer on Sundays before the game?

  8. Martha says:

That Sunday is a Sunday Run, so we could already have a buzz before the game starts…I believe it is also the day after a certain old man’s (BWANA) birthday.

    I’d be up for it.

  9. The game starts at either 3 or 3:30PM, I’ll confirm. Gorin’s will have plenty of time to get us tipsy prior to the puck dropping. 🙂

  10. Stacy says:

ooooh! hockey! If I’m in town (and I can’t see why I wouldn’t be) – count me in on the Sunday-after-Thanksgiving plans? I’ll figure out what I’m up to in the next few days here before we get tickets. Unless someone already has tix?
