Outrunning The Rain

Last night I met up with the East Atlanta Village Monday Night Runners Group (all those caps make it look official, no?). Seeing how the Atlanta area is poised to be dumped on by Mother Nature and that I knew a lot of people who’d be doing the run I chose to switch up my Monday and Tuesday workouts. Once again the hash has (temporarily?) pushed out the “normal” people and last night’s group consisted of five hashers and one person who should have a hash name since she has run with hashers long enough. Given that last night marked my third day of consecutive running (something that hasn’t worked well recently) in addition to running Sunday’s Black Sheep hash I ran a surprisingly inspired five-mile loop before heading straight home to take care of tasks which didn’t get done over the weekend.

Today’s passage from Notes To Myself.

I don’t need a “reason” to be happy. I don’t have to consult the future to know how happy I feel now.

To all who have helped me — Thanks.

I Finally Caught Up On Survivor
I won’t bother with a spoiler alert, if you haven’t watched yet you deserve to know…

While last week’s episode was far from groundbreaking I will agree that I don’t understand the Fans’ voting strategy. I guess that they are simply fortunate that next week tribes will get changed, too early for a merge.

I love the fact that Ozzie found the hidden Immunity Idol. I thought it even funnier that he fashioned an Imitation Idol in hopes that someone else will find it and try to play it later on. I wonder if he will leak the fact that he possesses the idol his tribe mates, specifically to Amanda when he and her are “doin’ it.”

Next week should be interesting. It looks like Jonathan gets bitten/stung by something which causes the medics to have to administer medication to him. Did anyone pick up on the karma foreshadowing when Eliza wished poor health on Jonathan and James when they were talking about how they should have voted her off? Am I reading too much into this situation? Is this what CBS wants me to think?

um, none? yeaaaah.

My Taxing Situation
2007 proved to be a challenging year in more ways than I imagined. One of the most egregious mistakes that I committed was not keeping my tax paperwork in a special folder throughout the year. Now I am scrambling to get everything in order for a meeting with my accountant at noon. I am also hoping that she can possibly explain why the Federal Government returned my early tax payment, as well as figure out a way that I won’t be penalized because of this.

CD Pick Of The Week
Some weeks it’s really easy for me to decide which CD release to recommend. This week Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks release “Real Emotional Trash”, which I pre-ordered at Criminal Records weeks ago.

Even though I was not the biggest fan of Malkmus’ former band Pavement (due mostly to a lack of exposure) I jumped onto the Malkmus a few years back.

Before plunking down your money be forewarned… if you are a fan of the “2 minute 50 pop song” steer clear of Malkmus’ music. Malkmus is a bit of a throwback to the older days of rock and “Real Emotional Trash” has at least one song which breaks the eight-minute mark.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – okay, but wish I was better prepared for my meeting
Current Music – listening to the “Car Talk” podcast (yep, I’ve now subscribed to their RSS feed)
Website Of The Day – With all this talk about taxes I’ve decided to try investing in bands at SellaBand.
Exercise (b)Log – running, 5 miles
Monthly Foot Mileage – 20 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car
Monthly Marta Rides – 0

March Goals
1) Run no fewer than 75 miles
2) Ride Marta no fewer than ten times (five round-trips)
3) Read at least one book

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Survivor talk! Yeah, I think I love that little sea monkey called Ozzie. He’s just so much fun to watch! What I don’t understand is why the Favorites chose him to go to Exile. I mean, Ozzie excels in EVERYTHING he does – of course he was going to find the idol! What was their logic there?

The fans, on the otherhand, are consistently idiots. I had watched it earlier than Phil but had heard him screaming from the other room when he saw who was voted out. Something along the lines of: “oh my god, are you kidding me, you idiots DESERVE to lose! MORONS! Do your parents really claim you?!” You get the picture. 🙂

Oh, on a neurotic Stacy note, you do know how much it bothers me that you have a big ass open quote every day in the “Read Along With Me” but no end quote, right? (Not even a little baby one!) That is pretty much like fingernails down chalkboards to me. Yet, I STILL read your blog every day! You better feel loved.

I took off after the run also. I was going to try to be social and join the group for a taco or two, since I was really hungry. However, waiting for a table, on a Monday night no less, was not an option for me. So I just went home and ate some pasta.

Paulie you are more than 25% to your running goal for the month…and it is only the 4th. Great job!

  3. @Stacy:
re: Ozzie — I wondered the same thing.
re: quotes — I’d fix it if I had the time and a better understanding of CSS. Until those worlds collide you will have to suffer. My apologies.

@Martha: yeah, I wouldn’t have waited for a table either. If I had the time and was in the mood to socialize I would have tried to convince people to go elsewhere. And the more I think about it, the worse I feel for sending Betsy on her own at the 4/5 mile split. I guess that I was feeling so good last night (shocker!) that I thought that I could catch up to her, but that hill on Clifton killed me. I should have run into the village with her and added mileage onto the end of my run — just like you did! (so Betsy, if you read this… I’m sorry).

I’ve noticed that I might have “tilted the scale” in my favor for my monthly mileage. 😉 Twenty miles down and I have runs of 10, 11, 12, and 13 scheduled along with many shorter runs. I think that I am going to make it this month. 🙂

  4. Barb says:

so – do you give out maps to the runners so no one gets lost?

As for Survivor, I’m glad you finally watched it – and yes, I think it is CBS editing the show to make you think what they want you to think. Have you noticed the last few seasons they really don’t focus on eating & drinking like they used to? I wonder why that is?

  5. Martha posted electronic maps to the EAVBuzz.net forum for the Monday night running group. Betsy had heard about the run and showed up to run with the CoolKids. 🙂 Normally I can’t keep up with her, but can usually keep her in sight. Last night I was having my best night in a while so I thought that I could catch up with her and run with her back to the village. The block that I ran around wasn’t that big, but the hill I had to run up really kicked my butt.

  6. Martha says:

That hill may have kick your butt (mine also) but you were one of only two folks to even attempt it.

Oh, I also did tell Betsy that you came to BF to make sure she got back okay. She was fine.

  7. Cool, because even though I know that I need to be a dick to be attractive to women I just can’t bring myself to be a dick.

Next on my “to do” list is to slim down and speed up so I can run with you and BWaNA. 😛

  8. Martha says:

Hey some of us eventually figure out that the nice guy is the better choice. Don’t give up just yet.
