Because it’s depressing me.

Today’s passage from Notes To Myself.
Eloquence is sometimes lyrical, sometimes powerful, but always an overstatement and always a projection.
To all who have helped me — Thanks.
Marta Was Definitely Not Smarta
I dropped the Jackmobile off at Curry Honda for an oil change yesterday morning (spare me the “Why am I taking it to the dealer?” question) One of the biggest benefits of taking it to Curry is that they shuttle me to my office. They offer a shuttle back later in the day, but I usually hop on Marta because this way I can leave the office when I want.
Yesterday’s trek to get my car seemed to be no different than before. I saw a Marta train go by on my walk to the station so I knew that it would be a “few” minutes for the next one to arrive. I didn’t expect a “few” to turn in to about ten, and I subsequently didn’t expect to wait about fifteen more minutes for a Doraville train to roll through Lindbergh station when I arrived there. Over all it took me nearly an hour to get from my office to Curry Honda, and then of course it took me nearly an hour to drive from Curry Honda to my house.
Ugh.
I’d Buy That For A Dollar
Last night I met up with the newly-formed Monday night EAV Running group. It was funny (in a good way) to see a handful of non-EAV hashers arrive for the run. I struggled over the chosen four-mile loop (might have something to do with the four and nine mile runs that I did the previous two days).
Afterwards the hashers in the group walked up to Blue Frog Cantina where we (amazingly) met up with another five or so hashers and consumed $1 tacos and $2 PBRs. In the future I will consume the tacos along with a “better” beer.

I promise that this will be the last from my University of South Carolina trip (mostly because I have no more). I keep posting shots from that trip because I have not take a photo since (where is the time?!)
Technically speaking this shot isn’t that great, mostly because I was shooting into the light. However, this shot pleases me nonetheless.
More On My Doppelganger / Nemesis
This morning while driving into work I saw the Jeep with the Jersey tag, NY Giants bumper sticker, and FSU spare tire cover parked on the street. I have a feeling that I’ll be seeing this person often because now I know that the person lives along my commute and apparently works somewhere along my commute as well (I’ll guess Turner because sooooo many work there).
I Don’t Want To Buy The Car, I Just Want To Rent It
My August Colorado travel plans are taking shape. It looks like I might be out for as much as two weeks. I have been searching for car rental information and have been floored by how expensive this can get. Currently the cheapest rates that I have found, for a compact car mind you, is $300 per week before taxes. That means that my car rental could cost me upwards of $750! Holy fucking hell!
CD Pick Of The Week
While the Rocket From The Crypt and Goldfrapp releases intrigue me, I know so little about these bands that I can’t blindly (deafly?) recommend them.
Instead today I am going to dare you to do something different. Today you should go to Jonathan Coulton’s website and check out his music. If you like what you hear you can also go to the Variety Playhouse and purchase a ticket for his March 22nd show; you know that I’ll be there.
And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – tired
Current Music – listening to Adam Curry’s “Daily Source Code” podcast
Website Of The Day – looking for another avenue for buying music online? Try Amie Street. Get it? Avenue… Street… C’mon, this is quality material here folks!
Exercise (b)Log – running, 4 miles
Monthly Foot Mileage – 60.4 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car
Monthly Marta Rides – 1
February Goals
1) Run no fewer than 75 miles
2) Ride Marta no fewer than ten times (five round-trips)
3) Read at least one book
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
I was ecstatic to find out that Coulton was coming back to Atlanta so soon. I missed his show at the Five Spot. I don’t want to miss him again.
Yeah. me too. I flaked on the Five Spot show. I shan’t let it happen again.
I usually rent cars thru Hotwire, and I’ve never paid that much per week in Colorado during the summer. Have you tried that site?
Have you tried AAA or Travelocity or Expedia for car rental discounts? Googling “cheap car rental colorado” yielded several suggestions such as:
http://www.carrentals.com/?cid=4905&chan=carrentalsad3
Might be worth a try.
Will you be Couch Surfing whilst in Colorado? Seems like a good way to save money, meet people and find non-touristy areas to visit. Just wondering.

I’ve mostly tried Kayak.com (my current favorite site for flights) and going directly to the rental websites (except for Budget who I am currently boycotting until they reverse the $105 charges they put on my Amex for the supposedly unpaid parking ticket at Florida Atlantic University).
http://www.carrentals.com is blocked by the proxy here at work — I’ll try from home later.
I am a AAA member, but have yet to turn that into great savings for travels.
I doubt that I will couch-surf, it’s really not my cup-of-tea.
I’ve never gotten a “good” deal directly thru the rental websites.
I hate to ask, but what exactly is couch surfing? Just staying with people you don’t know?
Dude!! Thank you so much! I have been wanted to see Coulton for a long time. I can’t wait
@Barb: Couch Surfing was picked as a Website of the Day a few weeks ago. It’s a community of people who open their houses up for people to stay overnight. I found out about it through Amtrekker (www.amtrekker.com).
@kalabron: Cool! We should plan to meet up for a beverage before the show.
Sounds good.
Dude, who exactly is affecting your mood? I’m in a killer mood this morning (good killer) and feel like whooping some ass on your behalf. 🙂
That and I echo the recommendations for car rentals. Once I was able to rent a brand spankin new Jeep Cherokee in upstate New York – $130/wk. Used Priceline, of all things.
Sounds like your run might become the Sunday version on Monday nite! You didn’t expect Hashers for the run when it’s been pimped on hash mailing lists I believe? why?
I had the joy of being in EAV last night to replace a fridge in one of my units… I can tell you it wasn’t as fun as replacing yours!
Stacy, I’m with you and I’ll be back up on any ass whooping that needs to be done. I’ve been in a pretty good mood myself. I’m even sleeping well most nights. It is amazing how a good nights sleep and not dreading the work day will impove ones outlook.
Sorry I couldn’t stick around last night, I was just so tired. I was in bed before 10 last night, the weekend was a busy one.
@Stacy: I got issues… 🙁 They are all “me issues” but they are issues nonetheless.
@Gentri: I didn’t know that it was posted on any of the hash sites or mailing lists. I think the answer to “why?” was the reading I got on the scale yesterday. Sorry to hear about the refrig, you coulda asked me for help if you needed it. I owe you some favors.
@Martha: I believe that I was home by 10pm and asleep soon after. I was even surprised how quickly I nodded off last night.
I didn’t know anything about the EAV run being on any hash mailing lists?
It was great to have so many people show, now if we could just get more from the neighborhood it would be great. I think once the weather warms up we will have a great group.
Paulie, I have problems making other peoples issues “me issues”…I guess that is one of my issues…that’s a lot of issues. 😉
Well, I’ll tell you what, Paulie: Martha and I (yes, I speak for her now) vow not to beat YOU up for your you issues. Just let us know if any one else ever makes the list, though, and we’re your gals!
Hehe, that’s funny. 🙂
