Sicko

I knew something was wrong yesterday but I just wasn’t having those blatantly obvious outward signs of sickness. While I was dreadfully tired and my joints ached I didn’t feel like I was running a fever, I was not congested nor nose-running, nor was I sneezing and coughing. The symptoms were strong enough to help me decide that I shouldn’t spend the entire day frolicking around Raleigh.

The flight on which I was scheduled was the 8:30pm; I failed to change to the 2:30pm and instead spent $50 to get on the 4:30pm. I normally hate pissing away money, but I think that I made the right decision.

I fell asleep nearly immediately when I arrived home, woke up at 3:00am, and went in and out of sleep all morning long. Today I have decided not to go into work because I still feel a bit crappy and don’t want to be the person that passes an illness around the office.

Read Along With Me
For Friday’s and Monday’s posts I pre-typed the quotes at work last week. I expected to be at work today so I left the book there. Thus, I cannot quote from the book today. Sorry about that.

I Am Glad My Next Trip Doesn’t Require Flying
I was in a bad enough mood when I arrived at the airport, I didn’t need any over-powered security cop giving me shit. While waiting in line to go through security I passed a stack of gray bins. I bent down and took two in which I was going to put my laptop and clear-plastic bag of electronics. As soon as I did, some asshat TSA agent said “Sir, put those back! Those are for this line, the bins for your line are down there.” I retorted with a snarky “I was just trying to speed things up.” as I put the bins back on their original stack. Had the “line” from which I was taking the bins been open I may have seen his point, but it was not. I am tired of this nonsense “this is my security line, you need to play by my rules or else” power play. I feel no safer on the plane because bottles of liquid containing more that three ounces have been confiscated, or that all of us were forced to remove our shoes so that they may be scanned separately. I forgot that in my carry-on luggage I had a small flathead screwdriver that I easily could have used to stab somebody, I am glad that it didn’t get confiscated.

My next trip is a drive to Columbia, South Carolina. I hope that I have no complaints about state troopers when I return.

That’s What I Get For Following Microsoft
I received notification from Netflix that they are no longer going to be stocking HD-DVD movies. That means my $200 HD-DVD player that I purchased last year and hooked up to my XBOX360 is now going to become a $200 paperweight. Dammit!

I knew that I was taking a chance buying this while the HD-DVD / Blu-Ray war was still being fought but I am still disappointed. Now how long will it take for Microsoft to start producing a Blu-Ray add-on for the XBOX360?

Waiting For Planes Stinks

This was taken using my cellphone around 3:00pm after I had been sitting in the Raleigh airport for about two hours.

My Training Schedule Has No Sick Days
I am scheduled to run four miles today. We’ll have to see if this happens or not.

It’s Time For Some Un-Contacting
Recently I’ve begun to realize that some of the people who I have made a Flickr contact have either never reciprocated, or have removed me as a contact. It’s time for me to return the “favor.” Over the next week or so I am going to cull out all of those who don’t value me as a contact. Sure, I’ll miss seeing some of their work but contacts are a two-way street. You don’t have time for me? I refuse to make time for you.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – I feel bloated, I am recovering from yesterday’s illness, my joints ache and I am trying to keep a positive attitude
Current Music – listening to the Cranky Geeks podcast
Website Of The Day – I could use a good meal today. Instead I will be reheating Chinese food that I bought last night and watching Le Gourmet TV.
Exercise (b)Log – nothing, I was sick
Monthly Foot Mileage – 23.7 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – I am at home and plan to stay here
Monthly Marta Rides – 0

February Goals
1) Run no fewer than 75 miles
2) Ride Marta no fewer than ten times (five round-trips)
3) Read at least one book

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

    Bummer you aren’t feeling well.
That stinks about the HD-DVD not being stocked by Netflix. Does that mean they are getting rid of the ones they already have?
But – check into the Blockbuster mail service, I’ve heard they are quite comparable, and you can get movies from the store as well. Maybe they will still have the HD-DVDs.

I think the format is KO’d! Hey, it’s still backwards compatible, right?

  3. Things look grim for the HD-DVD camp. It appears that all retailers and rental houses will be removing HD-DVD as an option.

I am armed with a couple of regular DVD players including the one that is in the XBOX360. I was excited to add a “high def” component to the collection. I will be much more hesitant to do so with Blu-ray even though it will be the only game remaining.
