Thanksgiving Came Early This Year

After Friday’s fiasco it was almost inevitable. On Saturday I decided to go to the hash even though I knew that I couldn’t run it. While hanging out in the parking lot for the hash to take off I decided that I really wanted to drink, and drink I did.

Much like my left thumb this blog entry will be shorter than normal.

On my agenda today is going back to NextCare for a follow up visit, and then to the dentist for a six month checkup. I am getting to know the ins-and-outs of my health insurance a little too much lately.

1, 2, 3
It was the first time I saw The 1990’s in concert.
It was the second time I saw Art Brut in concert.
It was the third time I saw The Hold Steady in concert.

Of the three bands that I saw last night I’d have to say that I enjoyed Art Brut the most. Had you asked me prior to the show, there is no doubt that I would have predicted that I would have given The Hold Steady that honor.

The two previous times that I’ve seen The Hold Steady they were at The EARL (apparently they’ve played there three times) and both show kicked ass. Last night there seemed to be something missing. Even some of the band members were confused when their set ended. I read the lips of the lead guitarist saying “I guess that’s it.” when lead singer Craig Finn walked off the stage. The band came out and played a short encore set and that was it.

Okay, So What You Are Saying Is That I Only Need 104 Points Tonight?
A 3-7 team cut the East Atlanta Deadbeat Dads like a knife in my fantasy football league yesterday. While it was bad enough that my opponent’s team had Terrell Owens, who scored all four of the Cowboys’ touchdowns, his roster also had Chester Taylor who scored three of Minnesota’s! If the name Chester Taylor doesn’t sound familiar, it’s because he had spent most of his time watching my running back Adrian Peterson until those devious Packers put Peterson out of commission last week.

A Very Special Birthday Greetings
My friend Betsy is celebrating a birthday today. Betsy, I am thrilled that it is your birthday and I give it 1.9 thumbs up!

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – blah
Current Music – nothing but quiet in my house right now
Website Of The Day – See how long it takes you to lop off a piece of a finger using this really simple, yet really useful Online Stopwatch.
Exercise (b)Log – nothing
Monthly Foot Mileage – 31.5 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car
Beers Consumed Since 11/03 – More than zero, but I didn’t count on Saturday

November Goals
1) Run no fewer than 25 miles
2) Not worry about running the Atlanta Half-Marathon
3) Read at least one book

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

I thought the same thing about last night’s show. Apart from Finn and the piano player, that was an entirely new band, right? I don’t remember those guys from the two previous shows at the EARL. Maybe my memory isn’t fading as I get older, but it seemed like a new backing band.

Happy birthday to the Betsy! 🙂

Okay, Paulie, what whappened to your thumb?

  3. Martha says:

Stacy, read the special Saturday edition of insidetheperimeter.com.

    Happy B-Day to Betsy!!!

Paulie, after what happend I don’t think anyone will fault you for falling of the wagon. Heck, you’ve still lasted longer than the rest of us could have. I was pretty proud of myself that I didn’t drink for two whole days. I hope you are feeling better.

    Happy-Happy-Joy-Joy..to Betsy!!…..Willy

  5. Stacy says:

Whaaaaaaaaaaa? There was a special Saturday edition and no one bothered to call me and tell me? Off to read it now, but if it makes me throw up my breakfast, you owe me a McMuffin. 🙂

It’s was good celebrating Thanksgiving with you early Paulie, and I don’t think any of us blame you a bit, as usually our excuses are a lot less noble! Gotta say I was kinda glad when I heard I missed the singing portion of the evening, although I’m sure it was lovely when it was happening… 😉

  7. Ray Swords says:

    You have all the fun…

Can somebody get Paulie some sissors to run with!

Over the years I’ve broken both toes, a rib, a finger, but your thumb pretty much makes the cake.

May you heal quickly and correctly.

And may the thumb be with you…

    regards.ray

Paulie, considering how I felt yesterday, I’m thinking you might be onto something. To quote Little Willy describing his bday celebration, “It was fun, but I was over served.” I think approx 62 down down beers qualify as an over serve, no?

and yes, the singing was lovely when it was happening. at least, i suppose it was. who was singing?

  9. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Betsy, it’s my fault. When I woke up with my head pounding I remembered that I was the one who was supposed to be reminding us to drink water. Stooopid beer….

There was a small group of us getting our REM and Violent Femmes on. There were probably more songs sung, but luckily I can’t remember those.

  10. Terri (SW) says:

Sadly, Christmas came early to White Oak Drive…due to a sing-a-long to The Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York” and a lovely rendering of The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping”…

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

And I just realized that there was NO girl-on-girl wrestling! Dammit!

  12. Barb says:

wow – I just realized I’ve been too busy (at work) to read this blog for a few days. And most people know, I rarely mess with my computer at home.

I hope your thumb is okay, let me know if you need any advice from paramedic Allan….. and a plus, he has experience in that type of injury, but it involved trying to strip some wire while playing electrician.

No girl on girl wresting? I think you should sue for false advertising.

  13. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I’ll keep Allan in mind for advice.

btw- I will have Amazing Race 12 recap tomorrow. I didn’t see it last night because I went to the concert.
