Baby Steps

Thanks to The Big Guy for filling in yesterday. He was so right when He said that I was going to suffer by attempting to run. I think that my problem was a lack of sunglasses. Without sunglasses it felt ten degrees warmer, which was the only reason that I can come up with for me having to walk so much on a four-mile run. Oh, my lack of running and overconsumption may have also had an impact.

What’s This? A Window Opens?
Last night I decided to attempt to unstick one of my bedroom windows. Much to my surprise the window I chose was not stuck! Eight-and-a-half years of living in the house and I had forgotten that this window opened. Sweet Chicken!

While I don’t think that the temperature dropped any lower last night than it would have had I not opened this particular window, I think mentally the thought of having an open window cooled me down.

It’s Not You. It’s Me
Dearest Netflix, I think that we have to break up. While I do love you in theory, I am just not watching movies. Therefore I can no longer justify the monthly expense even though you were kind enough to reduce the fee recently. I am not looking to see other movie renters, I just need some time away. Perhaps in the future I can see you by signing up for a much more limited rental agreement? Can we still be friends?

I’ll tell you what. If I find someone that I think would be a better match for you, I will gladly recommend that they look you up. Okay? Thanks.

Sir Spam-A-Lot
This goes out to my friends who have been spammed by my cell phone email… Sorry!

Apparently it’s been a bad week for my Blackjack and/or AT&T. For some reason twice this week when I sent a reply to someone via my Blackjack the recipient was hit with more than twenty identical emails. I seriously don’t know why this is happening, but to cover my own ass I will be suspending the sending of email from my cellphone for a while.

ITP Flickr Pic
I don’t think that I’ve taken a single photo in the week since I’ve returned home. That’s just stupid.

Rope, Rocks, And Flowers

Until I do I will continue to upload and rehash shots taken on my Seattle/Alberta excursion.

StuPS
Today I was supposed to be blogging about my new point-and-shoot camera. The camera is one of the many “presents” that I got for myself to celebrate my 42nd birthday. Did UPS fulfill its “Two-Day Shipping” promise? Aw Hell No!

I’m Struggling To Understand Last Night’s Top Chef
First, last night’s Top Chef episode contained Rocco DiSpirito hawking Bertolli products. Ugh. In case you are unfamiliar with Rocco, he was a once-respected young NY chef who turned megalomaniac Food Network “star” before collapsing under the weight of his own lousy RealiTV show “The Restaurant.”

Then with two chefs, Hung and Sara M, clearly wearing targets on their backs the judges voted to eliminate Joey. Huh? I know that Joey didn’t perform well in this challenge but I don’t think that he did the worst of the four. Puzzling.

In related Top Chef news… Have you ever wondered about the scar on Padma Lakshmi’s right arm? I just found out that you can watch this video, which is a portion from last week’s non-episode, in which she explains its origins.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – okay
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Ben Folds Five — “One Angry Dwarf And 200 Solem Faces” (man, I used to really like BF’s stuff)
Website Of The DayMy Damn Channel is like YouTube for people who actually understand how to make videos.
Exercise (b)Log – walking/running, 4 miles
Monthly Mileage – 4 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car

August Goals
1) Get my first Ruby / Ruby on Rails program written
3) Lose 5 pounds (if at first, second, third, fourth, you don’t succeed….)

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Sweet Chicken? I’ve never heard that one before but it makes me giggle.

I think you’re right, it must have been the lack of sunglasses that made me walk my bike up N. Decatur Road this morning.

  2. Woo Hoo! My blog is back online!

Thanks to all that sent me email telling me that it was down. Also thanks to Dreamhost for fixing the problem quickly.

@Martha: “Sweet Chicken!” was one of the catch phrases that America could have made its player on Big Brother say.

I’m not complaining, because they were easy enough to delete, but in case you want data for your complaint letter to Blackberry/AT&T, it was 64 spam messages for me 😉

    Sweet chicken indeed!

  5. Barb says:

I didn’t count, but I think I got 15-20 is all. Randy, your email must have been way more important than mine…..
Paul – see you tonight whenever you get out of the meeting.

Hopefully I’ll be out by 5:30pm and will head over right after work. I have two bottles of wine (I hope that’s enough — I forgot to re-listen to your voicemail again. If not let me know and I’ll stop on my way over).

  7. Steve says:

Martha, no report from your date? C’mon… inquiring minds want to know.

Oh wait, Paul, you should ask, after all this is your blog…

  8. Martha says:

I didn’t wake up this morning bound and gagged in a strange basement so I guess it was good 🙂

Yeah, I had a great time, I’m looking forward to date number 2 next week.

    Thanks for asking.

  9. Gentri says:

… but you used to like that!

  10. Amity says:

LOL @ your open letter to Netflix. 🙂

Was Rocco on Food Network? Not that I can remember. That stupid reality show was on network. NBC?

Yeah, I was puzzled by the Top Chef vote, too. At first I felt a little sorry for Joey, but after the crying went on and on, I just thought he was a chump. I felt like Hung should have gone.

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

A few years ago Food network had a show which ran each day of the work week. Each day had different hosts and cuisines. Rocco did the Mediterranean with Kat Cora (sp). That’s also where I first saw Padma.

The Restaurant was an NBC show. Ironically Rocco lost his lawsuit against his business partner Jeffrey Chadrow (sp) and is not allowed in that restaurant.

Ha! Good point about the crying. I thought that they might kick off both members of a losing team. If only one person from that team had to go I thought Hung should have been gone last night.

  12. Mollie says:

“Sweet Chicken” is so much better. America is stupid.
