Huh? Election Day? Oh, that’s very different…
The Hungry Detective Visits Atlanta
Over the weekend I caught a new show (at least to me) on Food Network called The Hungry Detective. In this episode the so-called Hungry Detective visited Atlanta. In order to eat food representative of the city he ate at Mary Mac’s Tea Room, Harold’s BBQ, Ria’s Bluebird, Panahar Bangladeshi Cuisine and Son’s Place.
Harold’s I would have (and actually did) predicted and Mary Mac’s I can definitely see, however I was pleasantly surprised to see the inclusion of Ria’s and Panahar. I’ve never eaten at Son’s Place because it always appears to be closed when I go by it; further I was unaware of its (direct) connection to one Atlanta’s old-school establishments — Deacon Burton’s.
I’m curious to know which restaurants you would have hit had you been put in this position. You can say Alluvia at the Cheetah, but you know I won’t take your suggestions seriously then.

Deadbeat Dads Done In By Former Defense
I had the Seattle Seahawks as my defense at the beginning of the year and after a few weeks I gave up on them. To support this decision they have been horrible for the past month so I really thought that I was doing the right thing.
I knew I was in trouble when I was rooting for Seattle to have a bad game… especially when they were playing the Oakland Raiders. My defeat last night almost assures me that the East Atlanta Deadbeat Dads will be finishing out of the money. Crap!
CD Pick Of The Week
I dunno, what would you suggest from these?
Isobel Campbell — “Milkwhite Sheets”
The Evens — “The Evens Get Evens”
Talib Kweli — “Ear Drum”
Ol’ Dirty Bastard — “A Son Unique”
Since ODB is the only one I have ever heard before I guess he wins by default.
And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – not too shabby, although I wish the weather was nicer
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Afghan Whigs — “Debonair” (read it quickly and it looks like deboner)
Website Of The Day – Guess The Logo is a bit of Web 2.0 silliness that tests your ability to recognize the logos of ten of today’s top web companies. It’s harder than it sounds.
Exercise (b)Log – none… got to change that today
Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]
I walked in for a coffee when they were shooting at Bluebird. The place was crammed w/ cameras and gaffers and, well, grips and such. When I went to the door, I sorta peered in and gave the “RU(open)?” shrug … Ria waved me in, and said “Yeah man, we’re open! You wanna be on TV!?” I got my coffee and ran the hell outta there. Ria’s too damn cool.
I can tell you a couple cool places in Roswell, but then does that means the Hungry Detective has to do a suburb series? If you ever get outside the perimeter, go to Greenwoods &/or Swallow in the Hollow. They are across the street from each other in historic Roswell. Now that I’m thinking about it, we might have to go to Greenwoods soon.
Aw man it would have been cool if I had seen you in TV Tony. Now that I think about it, I’ll have to hit up Ria’s for that brisket breakfast the Hungry Detective dude ate.
Barb, maybe the HD is a man much like me. Roswell? Nah that’s too far away… 😛
Red’s at the curb market… Wyatt’s BBQ place on Memorial and Wyman, Vietnamese PHO on Jonesboro Rd past HD, Nick’s Greek on MLK and Hill St. Dekalb Farmers Market…. damn I’m hungry! Other than the 1st and 2nd not exactly deep south homestyle cookin’, but still my favorites!!!!!
hey gentri, what’s the word on Nick’s? Drive by every day, never been there though …
i’d say nan (stupid expensive, unreal good), madras saravana bhavan (long lines, but well worth it), cantina la casita (cheap, and best food if drinking) and flying bisquit (cliche, but damn. so good.)
yum! foooood!
Taste Of Havana on Buford & N. Druid…amazing!
Mary Mac’s disgusts me. I ate there a few times for free (long story) and it wasn’t worth the price.
Fuck. Now everyone knows about Panahar. Goddamn media.
Nplts,
Nick’s is good stuff as long as you are not looking to take a date! (take out only) I could eat gyro’s with salziki till my arteries stop flowing… I love that stuff. They always have a daily special (Greek lasagna, 1/2 chicken, etc) at a reasonable price and it’s a tasty change IMHO, although they try and throw a lot of fries at you. You can actually talk with Nick as he is “fresh off the boat” from Greece… more than 30 years ago however!!! I’d give it a try you really can’t go wrong for the price. Closed Mon/Tues I think….
