It’s Fridaypalooza!!!
“So, Why Do You Want To Hire Mexicans?”
Because I was running late this morning; because today is Friday (and I miss my Fridays off); because I needed coffee; because I wanted to say hello to the lovely Ellen who works there, I stopped in at Joe’s Coffee Shop on my way to work.
While leaving I heard a man ask the question which inspired the title. It made me laugh. I only wish the other man’s answer was “Because I am opening a Mexican restaurant, stupid.”
Re-nauguration Day
The word “freedom” was included twenty-five times in the President’s Inaguration speech yesterday (and “liberty” was used seventeen). [thanks to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart for supplying those stats] It’s no secret that I have never been a fan of the Presidential Bushes. So, my one shot is “Hey Mr. President, I’d like the freedom of knowing that there will be Social Security for me when I retire (around 2030). Get this country’s shit together!” *** stepping down from soapbox ***
All Wound Up With Nowhere To Go
It would have been the perfect night to go out and run, pounding my frustrations into the ground with every stride, except for one thing — I really didn’t want to be around anyone.
It would have been the perfect night to get plastered, except for one thing — I really needed the exercise.
It became the perfect night to ride indoors, unfortunately I could only muster up thirty minutes of riding.
Must See TV
Staying at home does provide ample quality time for watching the telly. Here are some shows that I enjoy.
- Look Around You: This is a bizarre 10-15 minute program on BBC America. My best description of the show is that it mimics the 1950’s – 1960’s science films shown to me in elementary school, with the exception that the ‘facts’ in Look Around You are completely whacked. For some reason it didn’t air last night. Rats!
- Good Eats: Having met and worked with Alton Brown (sorry for the self-promotion, I needed the pick-me-up) this has long been a favorite ITP. Alton’s science is far more reliable than that of Look Around You, and the results are edible. Yum!
- TV Funhouse: A short-lived “variety” show on Comedy Central. It was an expanded version of the segments that were on Saturday Night Live.
That’s Incredible!
You would think that by now I would have seen The Incredibles in the theater. Hell, I have referenced this movie at least twice in the past two months. Nope, instead I have gone and done a complete 180 and have pre-ordered it for when it comes out on dvd in March. I’ve waited this long, what’s another two months, right?
Websites Of The Week (my name is Paulie and I have endorsed this message)
Here are some websites that I have visited during the week
- Equifax/Experian/TransUnion: You have ordered your credit report, right?
- Ipod Lounge: Guess what came in this week? 🙂 You so smart!!!
And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – frustrated
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 26, playing The Mooney Suzuki
Current Read – nothing today (still — starting again tomorrow)
Cheers!
Paulie [eatl/ga]
Paulie, you stole deflated yesterday and frustrated today. Don’t let that bearded chin of yours drop!
By the way, I was crossing my fingers that the answer was “Because I am opening a Mexican restaurant, stupid.” Talk about perfection!
Though I won’t comment on your political views, since we are apparently on opposite sides of the fence, we seem to have a similar sense of humor. Thanks for the heads up on the BBC show Look Around You. Those filmstrips from school were so cheesy, yet the mere thought of being able to watch something like them is downright nostalgic! Then again, I love Monty Python so I’m a bit warped anyway.
You prompted me to check my own credit report – do I really have to wait until June for the free one? And, do I really want to see it…ugh.
Don’t feel like you need to hold back on political commentary
a) the ability to debate freely is what makes this country great
b) I’m not a great policital debater
If you want a credit report quicker, try one of the big three. They may charge you $10 “for delivery”, but the information is worth the charge.
I don’t debate well either. Don’t get me wrong, I love to sit down, have a drink, and chat about differences of opinion, and as long as at the end of the night you agree with me, all is right with the world! 🙂
So it really isn’t free is it? I paid for it once, I think I’ll see how patient I can be this time around.
Are you less frustrated? And pick up a good book would ya?!
It used to be that if you could figure out how to get them to mail it to you it was completely free. Otherwise you had to pay a nominal fee to view it. I was in no mood to wait, so I knuckled-under and paid.
Frustrations will cease to exist (at least for today) come 5pm when I raise a beer to my lips. 🙂 What’s strange is that my frustrations are not job related. I just need to relax.
Sadly, more times than not reading puts me to sleep. I’ve tried all genres, only to be awakened to the sound of the book hitting the floor.
Let’s see how patient I can be. I have found myself in the mood to wait.
My mood of late has been anxious. So this evening around 6:30 as I raise a drink to my lips and send you a toast via osmosis, hopefully that anxiousness will subside for awhile. Sometimes life in general can be frustrating and anxious enough. Glad to hear yours isn’t job related either.
Being an avid reader, it’s equally frustrating when I wake up to an open book precariously “resting” on my chin. Especially if I had just got to the “good part”. This being said, I have yet to read my digital camera manual which would probably explain why all my pictures are blurry. I refuse to give up however! Even if I only get a couple of chapters read before my eyelids defy me, at least there were a few minutes I was somewhere else. Escapism at it’s best.
Oh, I also meant to tell you that grin is another four letter word, which I do daily when I read your posts!
Cheers back at you!
If this space can improve the life of anyone, myself included, for any amount of time than I am more than satisfied with my efforts.
